Acesso em:.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/18830In view of the great challenge of promoting territorial planning and environmental management in the coastal zone of Brazil and Pará, considering the peculiarities of this territory with the most diverse ecosystems, which harbor great biological diversity associated with it, as well as the use of natural resources by the various social actors who live there, the study in question aimed to outline a territorial and environmental diagnosis of the municipality of Magalhães Barata, in order to subsidize the Municipal Coastal Management Plan (PMGC), considering the following dimensions: i) physical, social, economic and cultural; ii) biological diversity and protected areas; and iii) water resources, in addition to the legal, political-institutional and patrimonial dimensions. To this end, the methodology used was based on applied research, with a qualitative, descriptive and explanatory approach, based on bibliographic, documentary and field research. During the work, information from books, theses, dissertations, articles, documents, satellite images and cartography was analyzed. In the documentary research, information was investigated in agencies and institutions, namely: Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE); Pará State Research Support Foundation (Fapespa); Pará State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability (Semas/PA); Magalhães Barata Municipal Secretariat for the Environment (Semma), among others. Regarding the creation of the thematic maps, we sought to obtain them through cartographic mapping, which helped with the geographic data and information on the local characteristics present in the aforementioned dimensions. Therefore, it was convenient to visit official websites such as IBGE, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the Mapping of Biomes (MAPBiomas) and the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), to obtain vector files of multiple features of the territory's extension, which were processed using the Qgis geoprocessing software and Sentinel satellite imagery, with low cloud cover, acquired on the United States Geological Survey (USGS) platform.
