Acesso em:.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/18071This research analyzes the territorial development of the city of São Miguel do Tapuio, based on the assessment of the local production chain in line with the geodiversity present in different portions of the territory. These assets are composed by unique geoforms that comprise part of the city's heritage, which also has sites containing engravings and cave paintings that help to enrich the city's History and assist to further boost the local economy, if used in a sustainable manner, especially through the implementation of geotouristic itineraries that can be an important income generator for families in Tapui, The objective is to analyze how geotourism can contribute to the development and territorial protagonism of São Miguel do Tapuio-Piauí. To this end, the methodology used came from a bibliographical survey which dealt with themes explored in the course of the work, namely: geodiversity, geotourism, development, territory, and others that integrate the dynamics of sustainable development, which has the enjoyment of geomorphological heritage as its main asset. In addition to field work, laboratory work for the production of cartographic material, inventory and quantification of geosites based on the Geossit App. The results suggest that the development of geotourism in the city, intertwined with the already consolidated production chain, may indeed represent an important alternative to begin the process of territorial development of São Miguel do Tapuio. Given that the environment and its natural resources, such as geomorphological heritage, can serve as an economic tendency when implemented in a sustainable manner, and with the active participation of social agents, development entities, civil society, public authorities and the private sector.
