For adherence to treatment it is considered that the behavior of following rules can give sustainability to the patient. Rules can act as a way to learn new behaviors during the ontogenesis (life history) of the individual, and nutritional treatment, in the form of nutrient count tables, are types of rules. To this end, we sought to investigate adherence to the nutritional treatment of diabetics by using two forms of nutrient counting tables. Two carbohydrate counting tables adapted to the North region were used, one that counted only carbohydrates in grams, and the other counted the amount of carbohydrates, fat and sodium. Eight individuals divided into Group 1 (starting the carbohydrate-only survey), 2 men and 2 women, and Group 2 (starting the carbohydrate, fat and sodium survey), 1 man and 3 women, participated in the research. They had to plan their meals throughout the day, log food diaries, and count nutrients under the control of a goal set by the researcher. The results showed that all participants issued only responses to record and sum the amounts, but did not plan their meals, evidenced by their recorded food choices. This behavior possibly came under the control of the aversive consequence of replacing their most prized foods with those of better nutritional value. It was observed that 6 of the 8 participants preferred to use the table containing only carbohydrates, that is, the one with the simplest counting answers, regardless of the order in which they were presented in the tables, showing that noncompliance with rules for The emission of the complete response chain was controlled by the response cost variable. We conclude that for our paricipants following rules depends on the cost of response and its immediate consequences.
