Acesso em:.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/17788Studies in biodiversity are of great importance, especially in the Amazonia, a very rich in organisms, marked by the presence of antropic activities, such as agriculture and urbanization, and when badly executed, these cause various environmental disturbances. Such, for the region, there is a diverse and little studied flora of spontaneous plants, also known as bunchs, invasive plants, weeds and others. these plants belong to several distinct groups and have in common the ability to grow spontaneously in anthropized areas and in other environments. These plants can interfere positively or negatively in the environment, and in the well-being of humans and other living beings. For a better use of the natural resources of the Amazonia, it is necessary to obtain greater knowledge of its vegetation, such as spontaneous plants that are still little known and properly studied by science, as in the case of matapasto (Senna reticulata (Willd.) H. S. Irwin & Barneby ) the focus of this work. Thus, in four chapters is presented here informations over the studies with spontaneous plants in Brazil, with a focus on S. reticulada, approaching its distribution, biometry and phytochemical composition. Chapter I presented a wide literature review on studies with spontaneous plants in Brazil. Chapter II consisted of a floristic survey of spontaneous plants in important pasture areas in the Amazonia, with matapasto (S. reticulata) being one of the species represented in the areas. Chapter III refers to the determination of biometric aspects of the development in S. reticulata. In chapter IV, it is possible to identify the phytochemical compounds present in the flowers and leaves of S. reticulata, with geraniol being one of the mainly compounds, as well as others of value were identified. The results presented here demonstrated that spontaneous plants can represent aspects of relative values (positive or negative) in relation to humans and the environment, so that such variation occurs as the way that they are managed.
