They’re Antonio Lemos and Lauro Sodré, and their followers are called ‘lemistas’ and ‘lauristas’, respectively. This text refers to a period in which the group led by Antonio Lemos came to set its oligarchic domination. It’s an effort to understand the process through which this oligarchy was established, by means of alliances formed between Lemos and the countryside mayors*6.
