It covers an approximate area of 23 km² and is home to around 2,000 residents. Maiandeua is composed of four main villages and several smaller inhabited areas. Of these four villages, we will analyze the two most influenced by mass tourism: Fortalezinha and Algodoal. Maiandeua, centered around the villages of Fortalezinha and Algodoal, is one of the most important tourist destinations in Pará and is undergoing significant infrastructural, environmental, and sociocultural transformations. This research explores the modifications in the cultural identity of Maiandeua, focusing specifically on the aforementioned villages, through the framework of Zygmunt Bauman's metaphor of “Tourists and Vagabonds” as presented in his book The Malaise of Postmodernity. The study aims to evaluate, through a dialogue of knowledge, to what extent the interaction between tourists and residents has created tensions similar to those described by Bauman, with implications for cultural identity: the adaptations of local culture as a mechanism for tourist retention and the enhancement of the process of touristification.
