Initial experience with uncontrollable aversive stimuli can lead to Learned Helplessness. Initial experience with controllable aversive stimuli can produce Learned Helplessness Immunization. Immunization can be partial or total. An important variable to explain the different levels of immunization would be the intensity of the aversive stimulus. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of different intensities of electric shock (1.0 or 0.6 mA) on the production of Learned Helplessness Immunization. Forty-eight rats were divided into four groups (n=8): NN, NI, NA, CN, CI 1.0, and CI 0.6. Groups CN, CI 1.0, and CI 0.6 participated in all three phases (Phase 1: Pretreatment with controllable shocks; Phase 2: Treatment with uncontrollable shocks; and Phase 3: Escape test), groups NA and NI participated in phases 2 and 3 (Treatment with uncontrollable shocks + Escape test), and group NN only in phase 3 (Escape test). During Phase 1, subjects in group CI 1.0 learned to escape from the shocks more quickly than group CI 0.6. During Phase 3, subjects in groups CI 1.0 and CI 0.6 demonstrated the same pattern of learned helplessness immunization, regardless of shock intensity, repeating the pattern of the control group NN. Subjects in groups NA and NI did not learn the escape response, demonstrating the typical pattern of learned helplessness. Possible variables that could explain the results are discussed.Acesso AbertoAttribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/Desamparo aprendidoLearned helplessnessAnimal models of depressionModelos animais da depressãoRatsRatosImmunizationImunizaçãoEfeitos de Diferentes Intensidades de Choque Elétrico sobre a Produção de Imunização ao Desamparo Aprendido em RatosEffects of Different Electric Shock Intensities on the Production of Learned Helplessness Immunization in RatsDissertaçãoCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::PSICOLOGIACNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::PSICOLOGIA::PSICOLOGIA EXPERIMENTAL::ESTADOS SUBJETIVOS E EMOCAOAnálise Experimental do Comportamento: Bases Experimentais e Histórico-ConceituaisPSICOLOGIA EXPERIMENTAL
