Both work and recreational cyclists are exposed to the risks of riding bicycles in the urban context and need support regarding the promotion of safe behavior in this environment. Although the use of a bicycle helmet is not mandatory by Brazilian law, it is highly recommended for cyclists in the literature on PPE. Several studies seek effective interventions to promote the use of this PPE. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of an intervention package on the frequency of helmet use among registered cyclists in the city of Belém-PA (Study 1) and among university student cyclists in the context of recreational (non-work) cycling (Study 2). The intervention consisted of two phases: (1) access to PPE and (2) presentation of visual prompts through digital banners with performance feedback. A multiple baseline design across participants was used. In Study 1, the data demonstrate that the proposed intervention was not effective in promoting helmet use in any of the 3 participants. In Study 2, Phase 1 of the intervention was sufficient for two participants to emit safe behavior. For the third participant, who already had a helmet, Phase 2 was effective in promoting safe behavior. Given the difference in effectiveness of the intervention between the two studies, questions regarding the characteristics of the work environment of the participants in Study 1 and barriers to helmet use can be discussed, and systematic replication in future studies is recommended.Acesso AbertoAttribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/Segurança comportamentalBehavioral safetyProfessional delivery cyclistCiclo-entregadoresEquipamento de proteção individualPersonal protective equipmentVisual promptsPrompts visuaisIntervenção em Segurança Comportamental para promoção do uso do capacete por ciclistasBehavioral-based safety intervention to promote helmet use by cyclistsDissertaçãoCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::PSICOLOGIAAnálise Experimental do Comportamento: Bases Experimentais e Histórico-ConceituaisPSICOLOGIA EXPERIMENTAL
