Salles was a pioneer in research about cordelin the region, being also responsible for the formation of the main body of cordel book lets of northern Brazil, the Vicente Salles Collection, located in the Museum of the Federal University of Pará in Belém, Brazil. The paper analyzes two studies of Vicente Salles: the article “Guajarinafolhetariade Francisco Lopes”, published in 1971, and the book Repente e cordel, literatura popular em versos na Amazônia, published in 1985.
