The Vila de Martins Pinheiro, according to some residents of the community, is believed to have originally emerged as a quilombo. It still maintains in its daily life cultural manifestations such as carimbó and devotion to Saint Benedict, as markers of the Africanities present in that place. In this way, the purpose of this research was to provide a History education that prioritizes the knowledge and ancestry of the community, which are present in its oral tradition. I understand that, at times, this knowledge has not found space in formal educational environments, which I attribute as a result of the actions of coloniality, as defined by Aníbal Quijano (2010). The path I took to achieve the appreciation of local Black ancestry was to meet, together with the students, the guardians of the memory of Martins Pinheiro. This encounter was mediated through a project developed with seventh-grade students, entitled "Ancestralizing Martins Pinheiro". The methodology in which the pedagogical practices were carried out results from the confluence with other teaching methods, and I call it “Historical Education of Ancestry”. The concepts and thinkers on which this research was based were linked to decolonial, counter-colonial, and Afro-centered theoretical frameworks. Thus, thinkers such as Aníbal Quijano (2010), Catherine E. Walsh (2009), Amadou Hampâté Bâ (2010), and Eduardo David de Oliveira (2005) are some of the authors who converged in this dissertation.
