Documentation in museums is comprehensive, ranging from the acquisition of the object to conservation, exhibition and others. It is noticed that this information has the potential to produce new information, advising professionals in the planning and development of activities. Moreover, this information is a fundamental testimony to the history of these collections and guard institutions. Thus, the present work aims to propose a research instrument to the collection of the artist Carmen Sousa (1908-1950), safeguarded by the Museum of the Federal University of Pará (MUFPA). The collection consists of the artist's visual art (painting, sculpture and drawing) and communication (letters, diary, photographs, telegrams, newspaper clippings and others). Research tools are products derived from archival description and museum cataloging, aimed at users who access information in archives or museums in order to locate the documents and objects they wish to search. The methodology applied to the study seeks to associate the mechanisms of information retrieval from the comparative analysis of the description metadata of ISAD(G) standards, for archives, and the documentation of the CIDOC Guidelines, for museums, in order to identify the fields of information record similar data to document the collection. The product of the study points to the conformity of the representation of information for museum collections adapted to the Software Access to Memory (AtoM) in digital setting, in order to provide access to the collection, through the proposal of diffusion, preservation and communication of this cultural good of the museum to its users.
