Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/4653The current investigation describes and analyzes the palatalization of alveolar stops / t / and / d / followed by [i] sound in the speech of 32 informants from Pará, starting from data collected by the project ALiB - Linguistic Atlas of Brazil, within the North Regional, in eight cities of Pará (Almeirim, Altamira, Belém, Bragança, Jacareacanga, Marabá, Óbidos and Soure). Data analysis was based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Linguistic Variation of Labov (1972, 2008) and on the quantitative sociolinguistics (GUY; Zilles, 2007). 1539 / t / and / d / before [i] contexts were observed, contained in the Phonetic-Phonological (QFF) and Lexical-Semantic (QSL) questionnaires , from the ALiB, which, after being coded, were analyzed statistically with the use of multivariate analysis program Goldvarb X in order to determine the linguistic and extralinguistic variables favoring the process. The results demonstrate that the palatalization of alveolar stops is a phenomenon in semi category speaking of paraense people, being stable.
