However, in the portuguese language gramaticography, at least untill the end of the XIX century, this concept was exactly the opposite: the impersonal verbs were defined as part of a clause with subject. This paper aims to reconstruct the path of the tradicional grammar in portuguese language and shows how the several notions of impersonal verbs were developed.
