(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2018-12-13) PINHEIRO, Lucilia Lúbia de Sousa; PRESSLER, Gunter Karl; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0100053541433805
The present study shows the novel Cinzas do Norte (2005), from the writer Milton Hatoum, according to the Bildungsroman concept.Firstly, this work is foccussed on what R.Selbmann (1994) considers the ―obrigatory instance‖ of a Bildungsroman such as the presence of the formation(scholar or professional). To include the reader into this discussion the studies produced in Brazil and into the Amazon context are approached, taking novels characterized as Bildungsroman in therms of formation or education. In the second place the study is about the structural form of the novel related to narrator, plot, time and space. Brings the possibility of lecture of the Hatoum‘s novel starting with the point of formation. This study brings also the reception of the novel, emphasizing the memorialistic aspect point by the critic.

This paper proposes a study of a singular character in every work of Dalcídio Jurandir (1909- 1979): Luciana. The story of this character is found fragmented in the sixth, seventh and eighth novels of the Extremo Norte series, following the order: Primeira manhã (1967), Ponte do Galo (1971), Os habitantes (1976). This fragmentation is driven by changes in "productive instances of narrative discourse" (GENETTE, 1995) and the constant participation of the speech of the characters - "characters' discourse" (SCHMID, 2010) – in the constitution of Luciana's story. For this reason, it is understood that Luciana is a character whose setting needs to be further studied in order to understand how the discourse of the narrator, of the characters and of Luciana herself contribute to her composition as a character. The theories in the field of narratology of Genette (1995) and Wolfgang Schmid (2010) and the polyphonic novel theory of Mikhail Bakhtin (2010) play in this work the importance of describing the phenomena responsible for the different discourses on Luciana and assist to think of the status of this character in the narrative discourse of the three novels.

This work of literary history focuses on the cultural and literary ambience of the city of Belém, capital of the state of Pará, during the 1920s. Historical and chronological extrapolations that overcoming this decade, both before or after, were necessary to emphasize some positions esthetic and affirmations made according to the Modernism Canon instituted. Starting from a narratological approach (SCHMID, 2010; DOLEZEL, 2010), assisted by notions of the Aesthetic of Reception (JAUSS, 1994, 2010); some theoretical tools and critical reflections were transmigrated from these branches of research to employ them in the composition of a historiographic narrative based on the “literary archives” configured in the journalistic media. In this narratological scope were made some critical assumptions in the evaluation of some literary works published in this period, as well as the contestation of the canonized history about the supposed Modernism of Pará. In these terms we present a different perspective on the events that moved the cultural ambience of Pará during the first decades of the twentieth century. The subjects explored here bear the poetic and narrative tradition created by authors from Pará or settled in the State; presents the culture of civic celebrations and the associative commitment of the intellectuals; (Dadaism, Cubism, Futurism…); which were openly criticized by the great majority of intellectuals (journalists, poets, story teller…) “News” or “Elders”. If the most known historiographical works about the 1920s affirm the “triumph of the modernist idea” in Brazil (GOUVEIA, 2013), this research will demonstrate a narrative in which the appreciation of the poetic tradition, telluric writings and historical patriotism were the concepts fundamental that unified artist and “local” intellectuals and not the propounded history of an “adhesion” to Paulista Modernism.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2021-03-10) AMORIM, Thaís Fernandes; PRESSLER, Gunter Karl; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0100053541433805
This work aims to investigate the moralizing and satirical content present in the Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels (1735) in the adapted perspective of Clarice Lispector (1973-2008), showing the treatment that the writer gives to these elements and how a child and youth audience would give account these contexts. Recognizing the narratives, historical or literary, they build a representation about reality and this representation materializes in the text, we try to understand the reception of these texts from the adapted text of Lispector, understanding that this is an intermediate instance between the author, the adapter and the reader. For that, we will approach some theoretical questions that deal with the interpretation and reception of the literary text (JAUSS, 1979), the reader's participation in the construction of the text (ISER, 1999), therefore retextualized by the adaptation, from the unveiling of the metaphors (LAKOFF & JONSON, 2002) and the interpretation of signs, icons and symbols (PIERCE, 2005), since the children's text deals with many images; as well as a translational practice based on dynamic equivalence principle (KADE, 1968), since the translator recreates the function that words may have in the source text situation. Such incursion is necessary, since Lispector retextualizes certain passages in a metaphorical way and does not use illustrations in her work (a recurring feature in works applied to children and adolescents). Knowing then that the text depends on the reader's availability to gather all that is offered and contributes to the constitution of meanings, an investigation will be made in the research of children's literature to discuss who these readers are, as well as in the studies of translation/adaptation of children's literature (LATHEY, 2006; OITTINEN, 2006; VENUTI, 1995), considering that it is this translated and adapted text that the children's reader will have access to.

José Veríssimo: seus anos de formação (1877-1891)
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2021-08-30) SILVA, Aline Costa da; PRESSLER, Gunter Karl; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0100053541433805
The work, “José Veríssimo: His formative years (1877 to 1891)”, is about the intellectual production of this Amazonian thinker in his years in Pará, from 1877 to 1891. It aims to comprehend the critic’s thought – how he introduces and integrates the Amazon in the intellectual setting of the time, based on ethnographic, literary and educational themes that started in the Belenian press and which culminated in works that marked the first expressions of his thought. Using a qualitative bibliographic research method, the thesis was based on studies of hermeneutics by Friedrich Schleiermacher (1999), on the aesthetics of reception by Hans Robert Jauss (1979), on the paratextuality presented by Gerard Genette (1982), on the history of book by Roger Laufer (1980[1972]) and Robert Darnton (1995), the narratological studies by Wolf Schmid (2010) and the reception of pragmatic texts by Karlheinz Stierle (1979). Regarding the reception of José Veríssimo's anthology, the reading of Franklin Távora (1883), Silvio Romero (1980), Machado de Assis (1899), Francisco Prisco (1937), João Alexandre Barbosa (1974) and Felipe Tavares de Moraes (2018). Data analysis revealed that in the three themes in which the Obidense intellectual moved - Ethnographic, Literary and Educational - the critic brought to the debate issues of popular culture, politics, art, women, mestizaje, the indigenous, the black, from the working class, religion, housing, language, folklore, economy, among others, introducing, as an Amazonian thinker, a need for representation and interest in the building of a national intellectual project. It was noticed, in turn, that the reception of works is organized in several fields of knowledge, through which readers update the works and seek to understand the historical roots of the country and the formation of the critical language of the author of Scenes from Amazonian Life (1886).

It is about a narratological analysis of the first novel published by Milton Hatoum, Tale of a certain Orient (1989). The second most studied novel by the author has a wide reception already, but the presence of certain gaps and repeated readings in the critic’s speech point to the need of a detailed analysis on the literary text as a whole. Furthermore, the translation activities of the Research Group ANA – Amazonia Antropocene narratology – from which the author of this study is a member, contributed to the identification of theoretical and methodological bases which would be useful to this study. While translating the book Narratology: an introduction (2010) and Elemente der Narratologie (2014) (revised and updated German version) by Wolf Schmid, the key concepts of Narratology were studied and accepted in the analysis of the literary text. The present doctoral thesis sought to answer questions that remained unanswered about the novel from the narratological point of view: based on one analysis of the text, how did the narrator organize “the stories'' of the characters? What kind of narrator can we identify in the novel? How may the results of a narratological analysis be useful to an interpretation of the work? The narratological analysis provided a more refined observation on the phenomena present in the text and revealed, through analytical procedures, how productive the study of this text can be when its reading is based on one theory which its goal is to present a model of analysis.

"Um passeio nos campos seria uma viagem pelo mundo”: linguagem e experiência em Dalcídio Durandir
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2013-06-22) AQUINO, André Luis Valadares de; PRESSLER, Gunter Karl; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0100053541433805
I work for the plurality of the Dalcídio Jurandir’s text Chove nos campos de Cachoeira (1941). The work is a semiologic practice, especially with R. B. par lui-même (1975) of Roland Barthes, his theory of the plural text. So i chase Dalcídio Jurandir’s text theory, which arises from his significant practice, Dalcídio Jurandir by Dalcídio Jurandir. In this step, Dalcídio Jurandir with Augusto and Haroldo de Campos, with Roman Jakobson, Dalcídio Jurandir a poet in prose; with Maurice Blanchot and the tradition of invention, Dalcídio Jurandir metalanguage producer; with anthropology and geopoetics, Dalcídio Jurandir of the Marajó Archipelago landscapes. All due to opening his text senses. Dalcídio Jurandir's text contradicts the readings that close their senses, his text should win new fields of experience, it prompts you to continue write it.

The novel Chove nos campos de Cachoeira, published in 1941 by Dalcídio Jurandir writer's main space a land full of mysteries intertwined in the life of the characters, its inhabitants, a life that can be summed up in fears, anxieties and miseries. The purpose of this study is to see how the space in the narrative is built for this, thoroughly analyze each space that appears in the novel, beyond the words that mark the existence of a space and the perspective from which this element is constructed, and categorize the possible types of spaces in the novel. Also will check the personal relationships drawn between characters and space is what we call topofilia and topofobia, the first term refers to the love of the land, the second is aversion. For the preparation of this research, we rely on a theoretical framework that defines some conceptions of space, here established as something that goes beyond the geometric concept, we understand space as all the information that situate the geographical characters, socially and psychologically. The theoretical main chosen for this approach were Alicia Llarena (2007) Otto Friedrich Bolnow (1969), Milton Santos (1988) Yi-Fu Tuan (1983), and theoretical working space as narrative element as Osman Lins (1976 ), Antonio Dimas (1987) and Oziris Borges Filho (2007), which give the apparatus to analyze our object of study with a focus on topoanálise. Even resorted to theoretical Tomachevski (1976) and Genette (2011) that give us grounds to examine the joints of the text, such as description and narrative focus. Thus, this research aims to analyze the narrative space as text element, as the space can be determined and created within the text, which the settings set to give the reader a sense of space.

This paper seeks to understand the critical reception of Max Martins’ poetry over 50 years of artistic activity. It proposes investigate, by utilizing an aesthetic recepcional approach, how the successive readings of journalists and critics established the acceptance of Max Martins’ production and the insertion of this writer into the respective local and national literary scene. Based theoretically on Aesthetic Reception, this study attempts to understand diachronically the effect caused by the Max Martins’ production in his immediate readers, and therefore make out a story of his reception. The approach of the assumptions made by H. R. Jauss (in The History of Literature as Provocation to Literary Theory) - such as the term "horizon of expectation" - will direct us as regards historicity of Max Martins’ poetic production, explaining why some misreadings of his works perpetuate until the present. Therefore by reconstructing the "horizon of expectation" it will be possible to understand which demand or question the Max Martins’ work attended at the time of its publication, furthermore to ascertain how the publishing of his works (G. Genette, 2009) influenced his reading over time, thereby updating their critical understanding and revealing some persistent inconsistencies in contemporary academic studies.

O projeto literário de Dalcídio Jurandir: a relação autor e obra
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-10-17) PINHEIRO, Lucilia Lúbia de Sousa; PRESSLER, Gunter Karl; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0100053541433805
This work examines the configuration of Dalcídio Jurandir's (1909-1979) literary project. Three aspects can be highlighted in the author's novelistic production: the modern coming-of-age novel, the realist novel, and the socialist realist novel, which are characterized by poetic language and narrative complexity, by the detailed description of the social and psychological environment, and by the importance of school education and education for the world. This last point, that of education, evokes an inherent connection between the trajectory of the characters in the novels and the life of the politically engaged author himself. The three aspects are exemplified especially in three novels: Chove nos campos de Cachoeira (1941), Marajó (1947), and Linha do Parque (1959). When approaching the literary project and the author’s image, it is necessary, firstly, to analyze the critical reception from the first publication to specialized academic criticism and, secondly, to compare it with the narratological approach and the identification and analysis of the “levels of communication and instances of the narrative work” (Schmid, 2014, p. 46). The concepts “concrete author” and “abstract author” (Schmid, 2014, p. 47-65) represent a dialectical connection between the author’s biography, his statements about literary production (“concrete author”) and the perception and “creation” of Dalcídio by critics (“abstract author”). The issue of education indicates a strong link between the author Dalcídio and the main characters in the corpus of this study (Alfredo, Missunga, Iglezias) and significantly denotes his literary project.
