Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Introdução ao estudo da migração internacional na Amazônia(2011-06) ARAGÓN VACA, Luis EduardoDespite the importance that international migration has attained in the media and academia worldwide, there are only a few scattered studies on international migration in the Amazon. How is the process of international migration presented in the Amazon and what is its importance in the destiny of the region? This article is an initial approach to that question. The text summarizes results of recent research conducted by the Research Group on Environment, Population and Development in the Amazon (MAPAZ) of the Center for Advanced Amazonian Studies (NAEA) of the Federal University of Pará. First, it discusses the difficulty of defining the Amazon, then some considerations are made about international migration in the Greater Amazon Region, aggregating the accumulated migrants of the national portions, according to the census of population of each country, and, finally, this issue is considered with regard to Brazilian Amazon highlighting countries of birth and the spatial distribution of migrants in the Amazon. In the Amazon the patterns and trends discussed here will become more dynamic and complex as development policies in pursuit of regional integration and economic development advance.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Investigación y formación de recursos humanos en ciencias sociales sobre la Amazonia(2004-12) ARAGÓN VACA, Luis EduardoThis is a study of the state of the art of the scientific research in social sciences in continental Amazonia. The study concludes that it is extremely difficult to define the situation of scientific research in social science with the data available for the study. Nevertheless the study was able to identify some 150 institutions that conduct research and produce science and technology related to the Amazon in the eight countries, of which approximately 100 conduct research on social sciences. Those institutions are located mainly in Brazil and Colombia.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) NAEA 45 anos: uma utopia criadora(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2019-04) ARAGÓN VACA, Luis EduardoThis paper is a personal vision of the NAEA's foundations, its purposes, its trajectory, its scope and challenges from someone who has followed its history since 1976, for 42 years, therefore. It is supported by official documents on the creation of the NAEA, and texts on its production and trajectory, written by several authors, especially from home, highlighting those elaborated by Armando Mendes. Creative utopias are guiding ideas always seeking a "light at the end of the tunnel" that even without being fully achieved stimulate the creation of new concepts and methodologies. In this context, the NAEA was conceived as an integrating institution of university doing, able to break with structures and concepts that were then anchored in positivism. In constructing this utopia, the NAEA was envisaged involving three interdependent pillars that would identify it and give it its own personality. The three pillars are summarized in the key concepts of Development, Interdisciplinarity and Amazonia. The challenge, or creative utopia, is precisely to give new contents to these concepts, and make them tools capable of approaching and transforming the Amazonian reality. After 45 years, how has NAEA been responding to this challenge?, is what is asked in this paper.
