Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Competitividade inter-regional de sistemas de produção de bovinocultura de corte(2013-08) OAIGEN, Ricardo Pedroso; BARCELLOS, Júlio Otávio Jardim; CANOZZI, Maria Eugênia Andrighetto; SOARES, Jean Carlos dos Reis; CANELLAS, Leonardo Canali; ALVES, Carine Oliveira; TAVARES, Héliton Ribeiro; COSTA, Fabrício Martins daThis paper presents a methodology for evaluating production systems by measuring the intern competitiveness of in beef cattle. During the first quarter of 2010, questionnaires were administered to 65 farmers, 36 interviews in the Southern Region (State of Rio Grande do Sul) and 29 in the Northern Region (States of Pará and Rondônia). Defined the key drivers that affect the international competitiveness - technology, management, market relations and institutional environment, an specific weight was assigned to each in order to get the index of competitiveness. The results were statistically analyzed by the item response theory and the correspondence analysis (ANACOR) with the SPSS® software. The South was more competitive than the North. Regardless of region, the critical factors of competitiveness were: crop-livestock integration, strategic planning, calculation of financial indicators, beef pricing, access to technological innovations and organization of farmers.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Competitividade interna na bovinocultura de corte no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul(2011-06) OAIGEN, Ricardo Pedroso; BARCELLOS, Júlio Otávio Jardim; CANOZZI, Maria Eugênia Andrighetto; CHRISTOFARI, Luciana Fagundes; SOARES, Jean Carlos dos Reis; ALVES, Carine OliveiraThe present research aimed to identify the main internal factors (costs, income, techno-economic feasibility and technologic innovation use) which affect the beef cattle activity competitiveness in a complete cycle production system in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The data was collected during the year of 2008 based on monthly meetings between the months of January and December. Later the data was analyzed in eletronic spreadsheets. The costs were subdivided in disbursed, operating and total costs and the income in category and total. Among the evaluated costs, the land opportunity cost, labor force and animal supplementation with values of 19.9%, 18.3%, 13.6% respectively, can be pointed out in relation to total cost. The main financial and technical indicators commonly used in production systems analysis were calculated. The economic margins (gross, operating and net), as well as the profitability over the net worth were positive which show economic feasibility in the activity. At the same time, technical indicators as the output rate and the productivity/ha showed satisfactory values. Thus it can be concluded that the evaluated internal factors were very competitive for the studied system.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Efeitos do peso vivo sobre a comercialização de bezerros de corte em leilões(2010-04) CHRISTOFARI, Luciana Fagundes; BARCELLOS, Júlio Otávio Jardim; BRACCINI NETO, José; OAIGEN, Ricardo Pedroso; SANTOS, Angélica Pereira dos; CANOZZI, Maria Eugênia AndrighettoThe effects of the live weight of 1,880 lots of calves marketed in 13 auctions in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on the value of final sale per unit of weight were evaluated, as well as the frequency of the lots according to the weight class during the autumn and spring seasons, in the period from 2004 to 2006, was characterized. The data were analyzed by frequency histograms, regression, and correlation analyses. The live weight is one of the characteristics that influenced the price of the calves; however, the magnitude of the effect was higher in years of great demand. A negative correlation was observed between price and weight of the calves in spring, which were results of the offer of heavier animals, due to the season effects or the oldest age of the calves compared to those presented in the autumn. The chain conjuncture of the bovine meat and the prices of other categories have great relation with the prices paid. Therefore, the acquisition of highter or heavier animals in the occasion of the business deal may help in the reduction of the costs represented by the replacement in the production.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Prevalência e etiologia da mastite bovina na bacia leiteira de Rondon do Pará, estado do Pará(2011-02) OLIVEIRA, Carlos Magno Chaves; SOUSA, Melina Garcia Saraiva de; SILVA, Natália da Silva e; MENDONÇA, Carla Lopes de; SILVEIRA, José Alcides Sarmento da; OAIGEN, Ricardo Pedroso; ANDRADE, Stefano Juliano Tavares de; BARBOSA NETO, José DiomedesThe prevalence and the etiology of bovine mastitis in the dairy region of the county of Rondon of Pará were investigated. The sensibility and the resistance of the isolated agents to the antimicrobiotics was evaluetad; 237 mixed-bred milk cows were used on nine properties, which were hand milked once a day and kept on Brachiaria brizantha pasture, with supply of mineral salt and water ad libitum. Clinical examination of the mammary gland, the test of the sieve and California Mastitis Test were performed. Of the 935 examined mammary quarters, 6.6% had subclínical mastitis, 1.3% clinical mastitis, and 92.1% were negative. The isolated bacteria in the clinical mastitis were coagulase negative Staphylococcus spp. (25%), Staphylococcus aureus (16.7%), Streptococcus spp. (8,3%), and Corynebacterium spp. (8.3%). In the subclínical mastitis coagulase negative Staphylococcus spp. (32.3%), Staphylococcus aureus (17.7%), Staphylococcus intermedius (1.6%), Streptococcus spp. (4.8%), Corynebacterium spp. (4.8%), and coagulase negative Staphylococcus spp./S.aureus (1.6%) were isolated. There was no microbial growth in 41.7% of the samples with clinical mastitis and in 37.1% with subclínical mastitis. In the antibiogram, 100% of the isolated negative coagulase Staphylococcus spp., S. aureus, S. intermedius, and Streptococcus spp. were sensitive to sulfazotrim. On the other hand, Corynebacterium spp. were 100% resistant to this same antimicrobiotic. Cefalotina, cefoxitina and gentamicina were efficient against the isolated Staphylococcus spp. which represent the greater part of the mastitis agents in this study. Mastitis was diagnosed in all flocks studied, however the number of affected animals was considered low; this probably is due to low milk production of the cows and to permanence of the calf with the mother after milking, what favors emptying the mammary gland. But hygienic sanitary measures and management practices have to be improved.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Production and chemical composition of three sugarcane cultivars grown under Af climate conditions(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-11) MIRANDA, Augusto Sousa; DOMINGUES, Felipe Nogueira; GODOY, Bruno Spacek; OAIGEN, Ricardo Pedroso; RÊGO, Aníbal Coutinho do; FATURI, Cristian; CORRÊA, Renato Pinto; SILVA, Flavio daThe objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition and yield of three sugarcane cultivars grown under Af climate conditions. Three sugarcane cultivars were examined, namely, IACSP93-6006, RB83-5486, and SP79-1011, in a randomized block design with three treatments, four blocks, and two replicates per block; means were compared using Tukey’s test at 5% probability level. Significant differences were observed for dry matter, ether extract, crude protein, acid detergent fiber, lignin (LIG), cellulose, neutral detergent fiber corrected for ash and protein (NDFap), total carbohydrates, carbohydrate fractions B2 and C, and dry matter yield. The fiber components (NDFap, LIG, and fraction C) displayed low values. The cultivars produced high dry matter yields, especially IACSP93-6006 and SP79-1011. There were no differences among sucrose (Pol) values and the NDF/Pol ratios. The low Pol values indicate that sugarcane grown under Af climate conditions does not produce high levels of sucrose. The three sugarcane cultivars grown under the Af climate conditions produce high yields of DM/ha but low concentrations of the fiber components, as well as low Pol concentrations.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Segmentation of the buffalo meat consumer market in Belém, Pará, Brazil(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-06) MARQUES, Cristiane Soares Simon; OAIGEN, Ricardo Pedroso; MORAES, Carina Martins de; SANTOS, Marcos Antônio Souza dos; LOURENÇO JÚNIOR, José de Brito; BEZERRA, Isis AbelThe objective of this study was to identify different market segments for buffalo meat with target groups defined in the city of Belém, Pará, Brazil. Paired samples of beef and buffalo meat were given to 447 volunteers, and a sensory analysis of the products was conducted. After the tasting, a questionnaire was administered to obtain demographic (age, educational level, marital status) and economic (household income) data as well as information on the habits of respondents and preferences regarding buffalo meat. The factors were estimated using the principal components method and the factors with characteristic roots greater than one were extracted. To check the suitability of the factorial model, Bartlett’s sphericity test and the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test were used. A factor analysis was performed, identifying five factors with common variability dimensions. The study has helped identify four distinct market segments which, combined with a targeted marketing strategy, can be used to leverage the productive chain: I - Young and interested, II - Mixed and indifferent, III - Graduates and successful, and IV - Healthy women. All had positive responses to buffalo meat; clusters I and III stood out with regard to several indicators, especially those related to the preference for buffalo meat and the predisposition to purchase and include it in meals. The sensory analysis indicated that consumers showed a greater acceptance of buffalo meat based on the characteristics of flavour, colour, succulence and tenderness. The study helps to identify market segments with distinct features that, combined with a targeted marketing strategy, can be used to leverage the supply chain.
