Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Cidade de Belém e natureza: uma relação problemática?(Núcleo de Altos Estudos Amazônicos, 2010-07) LOUREIRO, Violeta Refkalefsky; BARBOSA, Estêvão José da SilvaIn an unstoppable and rapid manner, Belém is losing it’s urban green. This loss presents itself with unique characteristics when compared to other Brazilian cities, that equally suffer from the urban speculation and the chaotic occupancy of the land. The mango trees – witch are listed as part of the State’s patrimony as common goods and must be permanently preserved – are actually the most endangered species, no longer characterizing Belém as the mango tree’s city. Besides, differently from the other capitals, where the private sector has been the most res ponsible for the environment damage, in Belém, actions and omissions of the government to the city are more important to the deterioration of the urban landscape, it’s green areas and waters than the private sector.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A dialética entre o “sistema” e o “mundo de vida” na biogeografia urbana(2009-12) PONT VIDAL, JosepIn writing the analysis of the scientific discipline of Biogeography, urban character of science as a technological support in different disciplines and lines of research from biology and geography and the theory of systems. In the case of a scientific discipline of character art, such a limited frame of time to establish a link between the environment, human action and the resulting dialectic. The analytical concepts of “system” and “life world”, proposed by Jürgen Habermas and Niklas Luhmann also offer a landmark interpretation that hints at various functions relating to the role of knowledge, apparently no interest, and science in general and of human action. For Urban Biogeography, adopt the proposed concepts mean to introduce elements of reflection on the analysis of historical processes and the role of discipline in the production of knowledge in the context of the Amazon.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) El campesinado de la Amazonia colombiana: una historia de menosprecio institucional, constitución identitaria y lucha por el reconocimiento(2009-12) RUIZ, Henry SalgadoTo understand the construction processes of the identity and organizational experiences of the peasants who currently inhabit the Colombian western Amazon region, it is necessary to know the historical characteristics that defi ned the social occupation of this geographical area. As in other colonization processes which took place in the Peruvian, Bolivian and Ecuadorian Amazon, in Colombia the peasants who occupied the Amazonian space in the fifties and sixty arrived after being expelled by the reproduction and expansion of the capital. But, unlike these countries, in Colombia, during these same years, the State undertook a military persecution against those peasants who had resisted the land expropriation process. In this sense, and seeking to comprehend the identity construction process of these peasants, this article will present a brief historical reconstruction of their first organizational efforts and a description of how they undertook their identification process as a social group. Finally, the article will analyze the mechanisms of resistance that Colombian Amazon peasants have created and consolidated in their struggles for recognition and their struggles against injustice and institutional disrespect experienced by decades.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Estrutura, dinâmica e economia da pesca comercial do baixo Amazonas(Núcleo de Altos Estudos Amazônicos, 2009-12) ALMEIDA, Oriana Trindade de; RUFFINO, Mauro Luis; RIVERO, Sérgio Luiz de Medeiros; MCGRATH, David GibbsThe objective of this study is to characterize the fishermen and the fishing fleet of the Lower Amazon. The study is based on data collected from 3.144 boats operating out of the four main ports of Santarém. An economic analysis of the activities of these boats is based on fifty two interviews conducted specifi cally for that purpose. Results show that larger and smaller boats use essentially the same technology but significant differences exist in terms of fishing strategy. Smaller boats supply local markets, and their catches comprise a greater variety of fi sh species. Larger boats tend to specialize in a number of species of catfish, and generally supply fish processing plants. Smaller boats are less efficient in terms of CPUE (Kg/Fisherman/Day) but they are more economically efficient, earning more for each unit of money invested than larger boats. Most boats operating from Santarém have a storage capacity of less than 4t. This class size boat is thus an important source of food, income, and employment for Santarém and the surrounding region.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Manejo e uso comum dos recursos naturais em populações quilombolas no vale do Rio Capim - PA(Núcleo de Altos Estudos Amazônicos, 2010-07) BARBOSA, Maria Betanha Cardoso; ACEVEDO MARIN, Rosa ElizabethThis text outlines the system of common use of natural resources in quilombola communities of Taperinha, Sauá-Mirim and Nova Ipixuna. Situated in the southeastern of the São Domingos do Capim city. The communities are located in the most deforested area of the Capim River bank. According to the memory of the elderly, in the abundance of natural resources, the community handled without rules and norms of use. However, in times of scarcity, it was necessary to elaborate arrangements in order to sort the management of resources, to keep them. These rules and standards exist as management mechanisms within the territory of the community, which become incorporated by the families, by the awakening of the feeling of belonging, governed by strategies of use and survival. Thus, the use derives from an ancestry that defines spaces for gathering, hunting, farming, etc..The standards and rules emerge according to the notion of territory established by the group, giving freedom to the ones who can access resources and at the same time, imposing rules to its utilization.
