Beneficiamento local da produção extrativista e agroflorestal: o caso da Cooperativa Agroextrativista de Xapuri – CAEX

The main purpose of this paper is to elucidate the difficulties faced by Cooperativa Agroextrativista de Xapuri (Xapuri Agroextrativist Cooperative) to achieve its economical viability. Created in 1988 by the rubber tapers from Xapuri (Acre/Brazil), its case study provides an interesting example of an attempt to establish a local agro-extrativist production processing project. This project aimed to aggregate value by processing its members´ Brazil nuts production. The economical return of this iniciative, however, turned out to be less than the expected. Most of the studies dealing with the evaluation of these poor economical results identified as the main causes isolated socioeconomical factors happening in the production and comercialization process. Using conceptual framework of the evolutionary economy,this study pursues the identification of others structural problems as the primary causes leading to this bad economical return.

Central cooperativa de associações: possibilidades e limites para a gestão dos recursos naturais e desenvolvimento local

The dissertation examines a cooperative of associations building in the Marajó Island (Pará State, Amazonia, Brazil) focusing on local development and natural resources management. Particularly, the dissertation tries to understand how a central of cooperative associations contributes to natural resources management and to local development of a município with an economy based on agro-extraction. The dissertation analyses the building process of the Central of Curralinho Agro-extraction, Small-scale, Family-based, Rural producer Cooperative of Association, trying to understand its possibilities and limits in the context of solidarity economy. The theoretical framework involves the debates on natural resources management, solidarity economy and local development. The methodology used was the exploratory case study. The data collection was based on documentary analysis, structured interviews, semi-structured interviews and participant observation. At the end, the study demonstrated that economic-environmental alternatives and the socio-politics relationships built in the scenario which the Central is involved are result of endogenous and exogenous factors. Endogenously, the factors are the credibility of an articulated and compromised leadership and the Central associations’ members’ perception of existence of an historical mild-man and large palm producers’ exploration on small-scale family-based rural producers. Exogenously, the factor is the Central integration with governmental and non-governmental development programs.

Diagnóstico organizacional da cooperativa dos produtores de leite da vila bom jardim-cooperlight, dm Pacajá–PA

The objective of this article is to diagnose the organizational system of an agricultural cooperative in the process of formation. For this purpose, the research was carried out in a milk cooperative in the municipality of Pacajá, in the state of Pará. Forms and interviews were used to collect data structured, applied, respectively, to 40 (82%) cooperated and 6 (67%) members of the board. The research is characterized as descriptive, with quantitative and qualitative approach of the data. For the treatment and systematization of the information the Survey Monkey and Microsoft Office Excel programs were used. It was verified that the profile of the cooperative is represented by 90% of men, 55% are over 50 years of age, 65% have more than 10 years as associates, 63% have incomplete elementary education, these cooperate rural area (95%). It was noted that about 40% do not know the status and 70% have no copy of this. The cooperative has several obstacles that can be solved through the realization of planning, permanent training, development of the cooperative spirit and realization of a more participative management.

Dinâmicas territoriais de comunidades rurais extrativistas amazônicas

This work makes a analysis of two extractive rural communities in Abaetetuba , in the Baixo Tocantins region from their production strategies, which have the economic base mainly on the extraction of açaí , where the Campompema community has links with cooperative and the Capim community that have his production marked by individualistic strategies for production and marketing. For such done we work to characterize the typical peasant from Amazon, the riverine, and their strategies for production and social reproduction and their territoriality. Mainly due the açai in recent decades have become a product of high commercial value in domestic and foreign markets. The objective of this analysis was to demonstrate that strategies of collective action, especially cooperatives, is an element that can be worked in order to ensure better living conditions for the riverines and regional markets for its mainly açai products, without losing the ties with the land and strengthening their territoriality.

The research examines cooperativism under solidarity economy and sustainable development approaches. The research aims a further understanding about the factors that influence on cooperatives performance. Particularly, the research concentrates on politicalinstitutional, organisational and management factors that influence on cooperatives of production performance and results. The research is a multiple case studies based on two cooperatives of production located in Pará state, Brazil. The theoretical framework is based on solidarity economy and local sustainable development and the economics transformations that may result from these new approaches that use cooperativism and local potentialities as a way for natural resources management and local sustainable development achievements. The data gathered from the selected case studies show that cooperatives performance e results derivate from internal and external factors such as: support from external organisations (governmental and non governmental organisations); capacity building for working in the sense of cooperativism; knowledge about cooperativism philosophies; participation in socioproductive networks; access to external financial resources; productive practices integrated with natural resources management; and, formal education.

“Novo porvir”: literatura e cooperativismo em candunga e outros escritos de Bruno de Menezes

The present dissertation aims to understand Literature and Cooperativism as two fundamental aspects of the social experience of the literate Bento Bruno de Menezes Costa (1893-1963). In this sense, his engagement in the field of arts was used as a starting point to the perception of a social subject who had made of the constitutive experiences of his works a huge space to reflect the condition of parense people. It is not merely an ornament what he expressed on the fictional texts and cultural reflexions, so the retraction many of his poetries dynamized and told about the confluence of a poet who made from his accumulated life experiences on his wanderings present issues in terms of a subject who not only went to the people, but was people himself. Therefore, when we analyse the cooperativist production of Bruno Menezes, we researched abundant sparse texts, even by the sequence of the years – first half of XX century, especially the 50´s – thru the deployment of his public activities commanding S.A.C. (Service of Assistance to Cooperativism) organ created by Para State Government in which he worked for ten years, from 1945 to 1955. We also consider that the work Candunga, published in 1954, constitutes an important space to the diffusion of Cooperativism doctrine once a fictional reflection has been conceded to such theme. The creation of “Colonia Novo Porvir1” by the end of the storyline established a different horizon to the peasants from Bragantine Zone in the Northeast of Para State through fomenting agricultural associacionism among them. Thus, when working with the execution of projects in this matter, he added ingredients such as political experience and perceptions about nature, considering important the historical changes in Amazonian spaces. The specialization grade he detained about this theme helped him to multiply the cooperativist actions, and then, to present practical results to Paraense society.

A práxis dos trabalhadores da Cooperativa Agrícola Resistência Tocantina em Cametá/PA

This present work had the objective the study of the theory and practice of workers agricultural cooperative resistance “Tocantina”/ CART. Thus sought answer the follows questions. How to engineer with the real reality as a dialectical element ,in other words, how the reality maked for the workers forge the theory and practice of this workers? that form the objective engeneered is relationed with the structure economic, political and ideological? And with this relation reflects with the theory and practice of this worker organized in the CART? With this sought to explain the dynamic of the social formation, using the comprehension of category of the theory and practice. The methodology was made with the bibliographic revision, interview semi structured and method of analysis of materialism historical dialectical. That form the research met the follow conclusions: the theory and practice of the workers, the inside of the cooperative forge with the real conditions of life in the comunity, the nature economic, politic, technical and cientical; The outside interests (the capital) are materialized in CART by conditioning training undertaken by ONGs, which provide training restricted to the production process (technical and commercial) is also conditioning the CART's annual plan that meets the requirements of partner commercial (quality and quantity and type of product that will provide). This contributes to the development and reproduction of utilitarian praxis which is characterized by not giving the man the understanding of things and reality. However, the utilitarian praxis the historical path produces objectively its contradiction. This is because it is not simply as a practical knowledge, but is supported by its concrete realization, this in turn becomes an element of economic relations and giving opportunities to the worker members / associate a "new" dialectical movement that will enable the activity cognitive subject's apprehension of contradiction from this reality, which may reflect the quality of development, although the ideal plan, teleological activity which is characterized by the practical requirement. This process is known as the dialectic of praxis.

This research analysis the performance of local social movements (association and cooperation) in building local development path, through a comparative study between an agave family’ production based association in Valente, Bahia (APAEB) and an açaí family production based association in Igarapé-Miri, Pará (COOPFRUT). Both associations were born from local associations APAEB stays for … years but COOPFRUT finished her activities by … Our main motivation was to investigate the reasons that led one association to be successful in their goals and the other to fail and die. The theoretical background is based on the concepts on endogenous local /regional development like family based agriculture, cooperation and association, institutional performance and social capita, trying to demonstrate that these strategies, when linked to efficient public policies, indeed promote socio-economic development in any particular setting. Primary data collection was base on questionnaire developed by World Bank on social capital. Data was collect with current members of APAEB and with former members of COOPFRUT. Both settings revealed high social capital, according to the questionnaire’s score. The main differences are in the level of human capital and the type of management one from within the group (APAEB) and the other exogenous to the original group (COOPFRUT). Thus as the social capital is similar, observations and main analysis showed the relevance of the role of social actors in conducting cooperation among members of associations (Fligstein, 1999?).
