Avaliação comparativa da ultraestrutura e propriedades físicas do esmalte bovino, bubalino e humano
(2014-05) NOGUEIRA, Bárbara Catarina Lima; FERNANDES, Piero Maia; PAIVA, Augusto Cezar Justino; FAGUNDES, Nathália Carolina Fernandes; TEIXEIRA, Francisco Bruno; LIMA, Rafael Rodrigues
This study aimed to compare the morphology and physical properties of the enamel structure of bovine, buffalo and human teeth. Analysis of this tissue was performed by scanning electron microscopy, mineral composition, microhardness and surface roughness of enamel in 41 buffalo incisors (Bos taurus indicus), 41 bovine incisors (Pelorovis antiques), and 30 human permanent incisors. The results showed a significant similarity between the ultrastructure of enamel in these animal species and the one found in human samples. The chemical elements which presented higher concentration in bovine and buffalo enamel were: O,Ca and P, precisely those that form hydroxyapatite crystals - Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2. Knoop microhardness values showed no statistically significant differences between the three species. However, the surface roughness of buffalo enamel (2.16µm ±0.23) was significantly higher when compared with human (0.36µm ±0.05) and bovine teeth (0.41µm ±0.07). It is concluded that the characteristics and properties of bovine and buffalo enamel, as obtained from our analysis and testing, showed a similar morphology to that of humans. They showed a similar ultrastructural architecture, microhardness and mineral composition equivalent to the human dental tissue, becoming reference models for research.

Life! It speaks both of an inherent quality of the living as much as what the living do. Without noticing, the two perspectives are mixed, and more, they are linked to each other. Is it what make us alive that says how we should behave? Is it the anatomy-physiology that determines what is the correct behavior to live life? The Greek terms bíos (forms of life) and zoé (common life of animals, men and gods) appear to cut off the certainty that biology studies life, seen from this perspective as a cohesive unit. The thesis defended here is that the tripod form - function - reproduction is the basis of a biology of the norm/moral, sustaining the construction of a standard way of life. Using the analytical tools of Michel Foucault, the human body and the interlacing spaces of life, living and experience are placed as protagonists. As a criterion for choosing the materials which compose the thesis, emerged the ones which make us see how the norm biology is part of our lives, guiding our actions and validating what is said and what we say to be right actions. The focus was placed on the saying about a moral for human behavior, which uses biology as a validation argument. Therefore, the diversity of elements became documents. The material used went through formal education (textbooks; academics); the media (television news, magazines); leisure spaces (movies, literature); laws and decrees. From this point we built arguments to answer the questions: What is this life that Biology says to study? How does this tripod (form - function - reproduction) sustain bíos life (qualified life) as it is presented today? What living are we making with this perspective? Understanding that life express much more about political aspects than purely anatomical-physiological, we come to the construction of two new terms, to support diversification: zoélogia and bíoslogia, spot of living bodies which escape, do not plant the whole medium curves. And the plural ways of life run through the zoélogia. Whether on its surface we see a common, natural, animal-life, in its base the contingency guarantees the possibilities that are so cherished to the living.

The research came from the interest to comprehend how terminal patients get strength to live even they have many difficulties and limitations caused by the disease and the side effects of radical treatment. Considering a methodology that seems like a quicksand which was formed during the work, the research accompanied two terminal ill patients and their families and with the story of two people who cared for their parents, also diagnosed as terminal ill patients, until death. During the procedures, there were interviews, family diaries, observation during visits to patients in their homes and in their various visits to hospitals for medical treatment. Immersion and production of thought gave the confluences and connections between the experiences of terminal ill patients, accumulated during encounters with these patients and their families, and reading carefully the theories of Deleuze, Guattari, Niatzsche and other authors. The following questions helped to give some direction for the research: how terminal ill patients live their body in the intermezzo life and death? What events are raised between discredit everything and believe in possible times of health, in other words, what emerges between impotence and the power of the body? Which subjectivities / individualities nebulae are created or invented in this intermezzo between life and death on the body surface? How these bodies cause / problematize or impact our traditional notions of body healthy and diseased body? And what matters most for these patients when they experience illness of your body? Such questions were unfolded in the objectives of detecting the ways in which terminal ill patients experience possible times of slow speeds and / or frenetic health to their bodies, even in the disease state in which they find themselves; to discuss the subjectivity processes which are recorded on the bodies of these patients crossed by the states of health, illness, life and proximity to the death and to debate the healthy body reinvention modes created by these patients with traditional concepts of body , health and disease arising mainly from biomedicine. The main results experimentation of thought led to the concept of geocorpo and others that compose it as healthy as possible, surrounded by accompanied loneliness, miserable loneliness and appeased body supporting the thesis that terminal ill patients invent and reinvent their subjectivities and run a cloudy movement between life and death, health and disease, forcing these patients to rethinking about other body understanding modes of life and health. The body in that intermezzo fosters a movement of folds and new folds run by experiences related to moments of slow speeds and / or frantic health, (even in the disease state in which they are, by eliminating or mental exclusion of affected organs) and tend to provide a temporary health for its own existence. A geocorpo that experiences to transmute or view and tell it about ways of existence. It makes possible to communicate with the identical dismantlement to bend the "outramento" (another itself, another from another). The thesis promotes other prospects beyond human body in its organic model, which can prove to be a contribution to science education and a way to live besides terminal patients.
