Thus, we had as general objective to investigate how democratization and social quality are related to the Distance Education modality, having the Degree in Mathematics Distance Education at UFPA as the focus of analysis. Specifically, the research aimed to: 1. Analyze the concept of DE in the expansion of higher education, amid the reform of the neoliberal state; 2. To investigate the conception of democratization and quality, amidst the legal framework, that the modality expressed in higher education, especially in teacher training courses; and 3. To identify if in UFPA, the Mathematics Degree Course presents characteristics of a democratization process with social quality. The proposed methodological option was designed for a case study with a qualitative approach. As data collection instruments, a documental and bibliographical analysis was performed as a way to deepen the knowledge about the researched object. From the theoretical foundations that guide this research and data analysis, we present as main results: a) distance education is in a broad process of growth in the country, both public and private, but more intensely in the latter, demonstrating that it would be more incisively serving the “mercantilist” interests advocated by the state apparatus reform policy and constituting itself as a strategy of advancement of the capitalist system that transforms the education of the social public good into a product for the commercial market; b) Through this mode of education, the government adjusts teacher education to the demands of the capital system and weakens the social and political dimension of individual education; c) Within the UFPA, it appears that, although timidly, there was also an expansion of supply in this modality, but against this expansion there was no guarantee of successful permanence until the conclusion of the teacher training course in Mathematics. ; d) The democratization of education with social quality, in the course of Mathematics in the distance education modality, at UFPA, is not yet a concrete reality and presents itself as a huge challenge, given the high dropout rate.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Produtos e serviços informacionais para estudantes de cursos de graduação no modalidade de educação a distância: um estudo de caso na Universidade Federal do Pará(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2021-05-31) NASCIMENTO, Hellen Cristina Macedo do; OLIVEIRA, Hamilton Vieira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3172995771315859; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6439-0058The development of Distance Education (DE), over the years, enabled an accumulation of teaching methodologies and strategies that expanded opportunities for initial and continuing education for remote populations that face-to-face education could not meet, and thus, it began to be used as an alternative for admission to public and private higher education institutions. Thus, the general objective of this study was to analyze the informational products and services offered by the Library System (SIBI) of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) to students enrolled in distance education undergraduate courses, while the specific objectives intended the following points: to raise the literature on theories, concepts and definitions related to distance education and informational products and services offered in this modality; to verify how the participation of the library and the professional who performs auxiliary activities in the Library of the Polo Universidade Aberta do Brasil (UAB) in Salinópolis occurs; identify the informational needs and expectations of undergraduate students in the distance modality; characterize and evaluate the informational products and services offered at the UAB Polo Library in the Municipality of Salinópolis in relation to the needs and expectations of the DE students attended by it. To support this study, it was opted for a methodology based on exploratory and descriptive research, with a quali-quantitative approach. In addition, bibliographic review, document research and case study procedures were used. The universe of this research was the Library of the Polo UAB Salinópolis, while the sample consisted of the following subjects: a) library assistant responsible for the analyzed information unit, b) responding students, c) SIBI/UFPA coordinator. The questionnaire and the interview were used as instruments for data collection, and for the treatment and comparison of primary and secondary data with the revised literature, we opted for the application of methodological triangulation. It was found that the SIBI/UFPA offers information products and services to the academic community in general, however, the absence of guidelines for assisting undergraduate students in the distance modality ends up limiting the informational resources for this audience. It was found that the Library of the Polo UAB Salinópolis is not properly structured for distance learning students, and as a result, the aforementioned information unit does not meet the expectations detected by mapping the informational needs of DE users at the aforementioned academic unit. The study contributes to the theoretical basis and suggests several measures and procedures by the institutional agents involved, among them the implementation of a policy aimed at specific and adequate informational support for DE students and the carrying out of new research that can contribute to the adequacy of libraries to the needs of their users, in accordance with their objectives and social functions.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Somos aprendizes de escolas sustentáveis(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2013-04) TRAJBER, Rachel; SATO, Michele TomokoEnvironmental education fulfills an important role when considering socioenvironmental processes able to reframe concepts as time and space in schools. EE encourages the participation of multiple actors in the educational process and indicates other possible routes to be followed by school and community with the adoption of sustainable principles and new social practices. In this sense, Sustainable Schools can become references for their communities by promoting a more democratic and participative management and reorganizing the curriculum. We propose a Distance Education process implemented in high schools in an effort that integrates the various sectors of the Ministry of Education.
