Amazônia Virtual no game Brasil Ragnarök Online: representações, construção e circulação de sentidos sobre a região
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-02-27) ASSIS, Bruno Monte de; COSTA, Luciana Miranda; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1310961057480638
The present study aims to analyze the presence of Amazonian representations in Brasil Ragnarok Online (BRO), a digital game for thousands of simultaneous participants. The investigation was based on documents and literature to support the discussions of representation processes, construction and circulation of meanings in games, especially on digital games, and briefly introduces the transformation of representative capacities of these media products over its history. For the description and analysis of the empirical object, it was sought the construction of analytical model representations in digital games, based on theoretical contributions of Denise Jodelet (1989), Mikhail Bakhtin (1995), Stuart Hall (2003, 2005) and José Luiz Braga (2012) and in the methodological proposals directed to digital games of Ian Bogost (2007, 2008), Cristiano Pinheiro (2007) and Felipe Teixeira (2007), respectively, procedural rhetoric, the digital game model and dynamic hermeneutics. Following the proposed model of analysis, it was conducted a survey of digital games which submitted representations of Amazon in its contents to verify aspects relatable to those found in BRO. It was found that the meanings built in BRO reinforce numerous stereotypes about the Amazon region, in order to present similarities with the meanings contained in digital games discovered in mapping. Nevertheless, it is believed that digital games are configured as a potential media to value and debate about the Amazon region, showing a reality that enables forthcoming researches.

Like a pro: dinâmicas sociais no e-sport
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2018-04-04) MACEDO, Tarcízio Pereira; AMARAL FILHO, Otacílio; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2605877670235703
Starting from an understanding of the social coming from the simmelian work, this research seeks to understand the social dynamics of a team of semiprofessional players of the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) League of Legends (League or LoL) in the local competitive community of Belém, in the Pará. Through a micro-sociological approach, the objective is to understand the process of formation and maintenance of the social fabric among players who engage in the organized competitive digital game, also known as electronic sport (e-sport) or pro gaming. This study specifically focuses on understanding how group dynamics between players and teams is manifested in this particular competitive context, of how the social fabric is created and developed at the core of that group by trying to understand how it constitutes a variety of nuances in social dynamics, inserting more specifically in communication, camaraderie and team organization. In order to do so, based on an ethnographic study carried out with a team from the city, a theoretical framework based on a multidisciplinary theoretical matrix is developed, engendering elements of the fields of Communication Studies, Game Studies, sports and social sciences, articulating these through an anthropological and sociological sensibility. In general terms, it is concluded that the path to competitive career progression for professionals is strongly dependent on an active process of socialization between players and teams in a professional identification resulting from a whole series of actors and forces. In addition, the research demonstrates that although a functional bias is responsible for stimulating the formation of the social fabric in most teams of the local scenario, there is a particular social experience of growing relevance, an ethos of camaraderie created both among players in a team, as well as between teams, that operates as a powerful vector either for the maintenance of the social fabric or for an instrumental/functional end - of the competitive progression - facing the challenges towards professionalization. The period of coexistence, observation and contact with the interlocutors dates from June 2016 to February 2018.

This article seeks to discuss consumer practices in the digital game League of Legends (LoL), from a study based on the field of communication and material culture. The objective is to understand the relationship between objects and players-subjects-consumers. In order to do so, we seek to analyze the social and cultural trajectory of these commodities in the symbolic experiences in LoL. In this perspective, according to the ethnographic method, reports and observations of the consumption of objects in LoL are presented by players from the cities of Belém (PA), Diadema (SP) and Osasco (SP). The results point to the existence of a complex web of interconnected meanings, responsible for (de)codify the objects and transform aggregations of pixels into experiences of communication, consumption and material culture.
