Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Acute toxicity and histopathology in ornamental fish amazon bluespotted corydora (Corydoras melanistius) exposed to formalin(2012-12) SANTOS, Rudã Fernandes Brandão; DIAS, Henrique Malta; FUJIMOTO, Rodrigo YudiThe objective of this work was to evaluate the acute toxicity of formalin and histopathological effects on the Amazon ornamental fish, bluespotted coridora (Corydoras melanistius). A randomized design was used, with ten concentrations of formalin (40%) (0, 3, 6, 12, 25, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250mg.L-1) with four replicates and five fish per container (3L) in static system for 96 hours. The moribund fish were killed and fixed in 10% formalin to proceed the histopathological analysis of gill, liver and kidney. At the end of this experiment the following mortality rates (%) were obtained in increasing order of exposure: 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 65, 85, 100, 100 and 100%. The lethal concentration 50% (LC50-96h (I)) estimated was 50.76 mg.L-1 with regression of y = 0.51x, and r² = 0.80. Further, in higher concentrations morphological changes as gill hyperplasia, with filling of interlamellar spaces, disorganization of liver arrangement, and necrosis in kidney were observed. In this study, the formalin can be considered slightly toxic to bluespotted corydora, and cause morphological changes when exposed to high concentrations. The use of formalin to treat of ornamental fish in the inner river of capture with wrong concentration can provoke negative environmental and biological effects.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Aspectos da reprodução de espécies de ciclídeos de importância econômica em áreas de várzea do médio solimões(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2013-02-13) SILVA, Tania Cristiane Gonçalves da; QUEIROZ, Helder Lima de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3131281054700225The Cichlidae family plays an important economic role in the Brazilian Amazon, since many of its species are valued as food and also as ornamental fish. The family presents one of the largest parental behaviors among the teleosts, and one of the more diverse among all vertebrates. Amazon fish show a great diversity of reproductive strategies and tactics and ensure the survival of the greatest possible number of offspring, and represent the result of long processes of natural selection and adaptation to seasonal fluctuations of environmental variables. However, many reproductive aspects of this family are still unknown or understudied in the Amazon. This work aimed to study the reproductive ecology of seven species of the family Cichlidae: Aequidens tetramerus, Astronotus ocelatus, Acarichthys heckelli, Acaronia nassa, Hypsellecara temporalis, Mesonauta insignis and Pterophyllum scalare. The study was conducted with specimens collected at Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve (MSDR), in the várzea ecosystem, made up of white water flooded environments, and influenced by annual flood pulses. The reserve is a protected area near Tefé, at Amazonas State, Brazil. For each species were evaluated the lengthweight relationship, condition factor, sex ratio, type and spawning period (seasonality), variations of the gonadosomatic relationship, fecundity and size at first sexual maturity (L50). For that, were used 209 specimens of A. tetramerus, 168 of A. ocellatus, 170 of A. heckelli, 178 of A. nassa, 109 of H. temporalis, 380 of M. insignis and 264 of P. scalare. All species showed an isometric growth, with exception of males of A. ocellatus which showed a negative allometric growth. The species bred throughout the year, with spawning activity peaks detected during the rising of the water level, and some additional activity during the flooding period. These were corroborated by RGS and condition factor indices. The overall sex ratio of the species was balanced, 1:1. Except for the species A. nassa, that showed a predominance of males of 0.5:1. All species showed a low fecundity, between 700 and 1500 mature oocytes. The species A. tetramerus, A. ocellatus and H. temporalis showed a partial spawning strategy, and A. nassa, P. scalare and M. insignis showed a total spawning strategy. The asymptotic length (L ∞) and the average length at first sexual maturity (L50) for females showed that all species have an early sexual maturation. The cichlids studied here presented two tactics groups of the main reproductive strategies, K and r. For the management of these species, it should be considered that these are low productivity fish species, and their reproductive seasonal peak and minimum size of capture, based on their L50, should be used to limit the catch.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Assembleias de ciclídeos na área focal da Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Mamirauá, médio Rio Solimões, Amazonas, Brasil(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2010-03-19) PEREIRA, Ludmilla Costa Ferreira; CAMARGO-ZORRO, Mauricio; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5423657235023988This study aims to know the fish diversity of the family Cichlidae in different habitats (lakes, ressacas and river banks) and habitats (floating macrophytes, branches and beaches) on Sustainable Development Reserve Mamiraua (RDSM), medium Solimoes River, Amazonas. Samples were collected in two periods: 1) Three months sampled in March, July and December 2003 in 21 environments; 2) from September 2003 to August 2004 in five lakes with presence of the floating meadows Eichornia crassipes and Paspalum repens. Were used gillnets, hand nets and seine nets. Were collected 6397 fishes and 350 kilograms, represented in 28 species and 16 genera. Cichlids represented approximately 35% of the total number of fish collected. The composition of the catch was dominated by juvenile forms or small fishes. Mesonauta insignis and Cichlassoma amazonarum dominate in abundance and weight along the study. Species richness was larger in the period I (28 species), while during the period II were recorded 19 species. Nine species were absent in lakes with floating meadows. The study showed that the cichlids moving between environments and habitats of the Reserve in search of better conditions for their survival.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Biologia reprodutiva e dinâmica populacional de Hypancistrus zebra Isbrücker & Nijssen, 1991 (Siluriformes, Loricariidae), no rio Xingu, Amazônia brasileira(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011-05-25) ROMAN, Ana Paula Oliveira; ROCHA, Rossineide Martins da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4371300451793081; ISAAC, Victoria Judith; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3696530797888724Hypancistrus zebra is a specie used with ornamental purposes, endemic and rare in the Middle - Lower Rio Xingu, which has strong demand from the international ornamental fish market, which created a strong pressure of exploitation associated with this species. H.zebra is included on the list of Brazilian fauna threatened with extinction and their capture is prohibited. It is known that even prohibited, it continues to be captured and exported illegally, together with the construction of this hydroelectric Belo Monte in his patch of distribution, which threatens their geographical distribution and lack of information on its biology and ecology make it difficult planning actions for this species. So, if this work aimed to study aspects of reproductive biology and population dynamics to contribute to conservation measures for this species. Specimens of H. zebra were taken monthly from March 2009 to February 2010, by diving with a compressor, on the Xingu River, between the location of the weevil and Rita village of Belo Monte. The captured individuals were weighed and measured (total weight and total length). The gonads were removed and immediately fixed in Bouin solution. This was followed by routine histological techniques and the slides were stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE). The stages of gonadal maturation were described based on the presence of germ cells at different stages of development. Through the length frequency data, estimates of population parameters such as growth models, recruitment, mortality, yield per recruit and size of first gonadal maturity. The species showed a seasonal spawning peaks between the two transition seasons of drought and flood (and vice versa) of the river, and two periods of recruitment, with different growth rates. It was estimated that the species has a lifespan of five years, and is at the limit of maximum sustainable yield, which is characterized as a dangerous situation for the species, because any increase in effort will compromise the stock and it is not known impacts that occur as a result of changes in their habitat caused by dam construction.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Cytogenetic analysis of Baryancistrus xanthellus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae: Ancistrini), an ornamental fish endemic to the Xingu River, Brazil(Sociedade Brasileira de Ictiologia, 2016) MEDEIROS, Larissa Azevedo de; GURGEL, Eduardo Gentil Ginani; SOUSA, Leandro Melo de; PY-DANIEL, Lúcia Helena Rapp; FELDBERG, ElianaBaryancistrus xanthellus is a species from the Ancistrini tribe known commonly as "amarelinho " or "golden nugget pleco". It is one of the most popular and valued ornamental fishes due to its color pattern. Also, it is an endemic species from the Xingu River occurring from Volta Grande do Xingu, region where the Belo Monte Hydropower Dam is being built, to São Félix do Xingu. The current study aimed to cytogenetically characterize B. xanthellus . Results point to the maintenance of 2n=52, which is considered the most common condition for the tribe, and a single nucleolus organizer region (NOR). Mapping of the 18S rDNA confirmed the NOR sites, and the 5S rDNA was mapped in the interstitial position of a single chromosome pair. The 18S and 5S rDNA located in different pairs constitute an apomorphy in Loricariidae. Large blocks of heterochromatin are present in pairs 1 and 10 and in the regions equivalent to NOR and the 5S rDNA. Data obtained in this study corroborated with the currently accepted phylogenetic hypothesis for the Ancistrini and demonstrate evidence that the genus Baryancistrus occupies a basal position in the tribe.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Ecologia e etnoecologia de Hypancistrus zebra (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) no rio Xingu, Amazônia brasileira(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011-08-05) GONÇALVES, Alany Pedrosa; NAHUM, Victoria Judith Isaac; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3696530797888724H. Zebra is a fish species of the Loricariidae family, Ancistrinae subfamily, endemic of the Xingu River, with distribution from Belo Monte to the confluence of the Xingu and Iriri rivers. Being a species with great market value aquarist ornamental his capture became rampant, making it an endangered species. Despite strong pressure on H. zebra, there are still few studies on the species. Thus, given the scarcity of basic information and the constant threats, knowing the biology and ecology of H. zebra, aggregating the results of scientific research, also the local ecological knowledge of fishermen ornamental trade about this species becomes an essential tool for the conservation of the species. The distribution of H. zebra is restricted to a small stretch of the Xingu River, between Gorgulho da Rita and Itaubinha, and does not occur evenly, it depends on the presence of boulders. A total of 283 individuals of H. zebra were visualized in the rocky outcrops of the study area, of which 232 were captured. The lowest average abundance was Gorgulho da Rita, as opposed to the site Jericoá with the greatest abundance. Between periods, there was a greater abundance in dry river and lowest value for the period of filling. Environmental factors had no significant influence on the abundance of H. zebra. H. zebra is a generalist species, feeding mainly of periphytic algae, debris, plant debris and sponges, while nematodes and millipedes were considered occasional items. Diet composition and abundance of H. zebra showed no significant differences for collection sites, periods of the year and ontogeny. Considering the composition and abundance of the diet, H. zebra can be considered an iliophagousomnivorous, and ability to adapt changes in food availability in the construction of the Hidroeletric Belo Monte. Ornamental trade fishermen demonstrate expert knowledge concerning the distribution and abundance, habitat, feeding, predation and reproduction of the H. zebra, which can be used to optimize work and to facilitate future management measures. The construction of the Hydroeltric Belo Monte Hydroelectric is a threat to the survival of H. zebra and future studies and monitoring of the species are needed, either as mitigation of impacts, either as to captive breeding as an alternative income coastal communities who depend on fishing on the Xingu river ornamental.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Efeito da salinidade e da frequência alimentar durante a larvicultura dos ornamentais amazônicos acará bandeira Pterophyllum scalare (SCHULTZE, 1823) e acará severo Heros severus (HECKEL, 1840)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-07-21) EIRAS, Bruno José Corecha Fernandes; VERAS, Galileu Crovatto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4497651649653210; COSTA, Rauquírio André Albuquerque Marinho da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4504677939464624With the study aimed to evaluate the effect of salinity and feeding frequency on growth, uniformity and survival of the angelfish Pterophyllum scalare and banded cichlid post-larvae. Were conducted two experiments in a completely randomized in a factorial 5 x 2, with five different sodium chloride concentrations (0; 2; 4; 6 and 8 g L-1) and two feed frequency (2 and 4 times per day). It was observed the water salinity and feeding frequency influenced significantly (p < 0,05) in torso length and body height in the angelfish larviculture. The eye diameter, was affected (p < 0,05) only by salinity, while the final standard length, standard length gain, head length, torso length, post-anal length, head height, body height, final weight, weight gain, specific growth rate and allometric condition factor differed significantly (p < 0,05) only for the feeding frequency. In the banded cichlid larviculture, there was a significant difference (p < 0,05) in the head length, post-anal length, head height and allometric condition factor by salinity and feeding frequency. The water salinity influenced significantly (p < 0,05) the final standard length, standard length gain, torso length, eye diameter, body height, survival hate and uniformity in weight. The feeding frequency influenced significantly (p < 0,05) the final weight, weight gain and specific growth rate. It was concluded that angelfish post-larvae can be grown with salinity up to 4 g L-1 without problems for the development and survival. On the other hand, the banded cichlid post-larvae had better survival hate in water without salt add. The feeding frequency of four times a day with artemia nauplii is the most recommended for the both species.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Exigência de proteína bruta na dieta de alevinos e juvenis do ornamental Amazônico acará severo (Heros severus) (Heckel, 1840)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-07-21) SOUSA, Jonathan Alves de; VERAS, Galileu Crovatto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4497651649653210; COSTA, Rauquírio André Albuquerque Marinho da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4504677939464624Aquaculture is the practice of create a controlled manner aquatic organisms and is divided into two segments: food and ornamental purposes. Among the contributing organisms to the diversity of Brazilian Amazon ornamental fish fauna, it is severum (Heros severus). There was quadratic effect of body protein, lipid and ash body, with increasing levels of crude protein diet, estimating values 40.64; 37.77 and 37.50% CP, respectively. There was not significant effect of dietary protein levels on the survival of juveniles (P>0.05). It was observed quadratic effect of weight gain, specific growth rate, feed conversion, protein efficiency rate and hepatossomatic rate of juveniles (P<0.05), estimating values of 37.03; 37.20; 35.13; 35.85; 38.78% CP, respectively. The feed intake showed a linear increase (P<0.05) with increased levels of dietary protein. There was a linear decrease (P<0.05) viscerossomatic rate with increasing levels of dietary protein. Blood glucose and hematocrit showed lower values (P<0.05) in fish fed diet with lower content protein. Based on performance, efficient use of nutrients and body condition indices fingerlings and juveniles of severum, estimated levels from 37.77 to 43.54% and from 34.74 to 38.78% CP, respectively.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Experimental infection in Notodiaptomus sp. (Crustacea: Calanoida) with larvae of Camallanus sp. (Nematoda: Camallanidae)(2007-04) MARTINS, Maurício Laterça; GHIRALDELLI, Luciana; GARCIA, Fabiana; ONAKA, Eduardo Makoto; FUJIMOTO, Rodrigo YudiThis trial registered the experimental infection viability with nematode larvae Camallanus sp. in Notodiaptomus sp., a crustacean, which can be an intermediate host. Adult females of nematode were dissected from the intestines of Xiphophorus maculatus (Osteichthyes: Poeciliidae), at a fish farm in the State of São Paulo. Females were slightly compressed for larvae release, collected with Pasteur pipette and separated on Petri dishes with 9ml filtered water at 28.1ºC, from zooplankton culture. Treatments consisted of Petri dishes with 60 and 105 copepods, in which 120, 150 and 210 larvae of nematode were added in four replications. Twenty-four and 36h after exposition to the larvae, the copepods were fixed in 70% alcohol to record the amount of fixed larvae. Twenty four hours after exposition, 60 copepods group with 120 larvae showed significantly higher prevalence (46.5%) when compared to 105 copepods and 120 larvae (33.2%). Thus, these answers suggested that 120 larvae were enough for a successful infectivity. Experimental infection was available and so, it was used as a pattern to life cycle studies of camallanid nematodes and hosts susceptibility tests.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) First occurrence of Quadrigyrus nickoli (Acanthocephala) in the ornamental fish Hyphessobrycon eques(2013-03) FUJIMOTO, Rodrigo Yudi; SARMENTO, Aline de Melo Braun; DINIZ, Daniel Guerreiro; EIRAS, Jorge Costa; MARTINS, Maurício LaterçaThe objective of this work was to report the first seasonal occurrence of the acanthocephalan Quadrigyrus nickoli Schmidt & Hugghins, 1973 (Quadrigyridae), in the “Mato Grosso” Hyphessobrycon eques (Characidae) (Steindachner, 1882), collected from the Chumucuí River, state of Pará, Brazil. Four hundred and eighty individuals (4.53mg ± 0.32 and 5.51 ± 0.58mm) were randomly distributed into 48 plastic containers (1L) at a density of 10 larvae/L. A completely randomized design was used, with four replications in a factorial 6 x 2, six photoperiods (0L:24D, 6L:18D, 12L:12D, 16L:8D, 20L:4D, 24L:0D) and two feeding frequencies (two or four times a day). The larvae were fed performed with Artemia nauplii at averaging 800/ larvae/ day, for 15 days. Beta larvae subjected to photoperiod 12L:12D and 16L:8E showed the greatest weight gain (P<0.10), while those fed four times daily had greater length growth and uniformity (P<0.10). However, individuals fed four times daily had lower survival when subjected to photoperiod 16L:8E, 20L:4L and 24E:0D (P<0.10). On the other hand, larvae subjected to a photoperiod of 12L:12D, 16L:8L and 20L:4E showed higher survival rate when fed twice a day (P<0.10). Therefore, with the intention of better growth, uniformity and survival of Betta splendens larvae, it is recommended that the hatchery in this species be done under a photoperiod of 12L: 12D with supply of Artemia nauplii twice daily.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Parasites of four ornamental fish from the Chumucuí River (Bragança, Pará, Brazil)(2013-03) FUJIMOTO, Rodrigo Yudi; BARROS, Zaira Monik Nunes de; MARINHO FILHO, Adjalbas Nunes; DINIZ, Daniel Guerreiro; EIRAS, Jorge CostaThe objective of the present study was to evaluate the parasite fauna of four species of ornamental fish collected in the Chumucuí River, municipality of Bragança, Pará, Brazil. From June 2006 to December 2007. Fishes (n=307) belonging to four species were collected, including 23 specimens of Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae (redeye tetra), 37 Carnegiella strigata (marbled hatchetfish), 7 Chilodus punctatus (spotted headstander), and 240 Astyanax bimaculatus (twospot astyanax). The parasites found belonged to three taxa: monogeneans in the gills, nematodes (larvae of Capillaria sp. and Contracaecum sp.) in the digestive tract and liver and acanthocephalans (Quadrigyrus torquatus, Q. brasiliensis and Q. nickoli) in the stomach and intestine. Astyanax bimaculatus presented higher prevalence of acanthocephalans in the wet season, and lower prevalence of nematodes in the dry season. The possible importance of these parasites in the exportation of ornamental fish is discussed.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Peixes ornamentais do rio xingu: manutenção e reprodução do Acari zebra Hypancistrus zebra Isbrücker & Nijssen, 1991 (Siluriformes, Loricariidae) em cativeiro(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-04-29) RAMOS, Fabrício Menezes; CORDEIRO, Carlos Alberto Martins; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5010139685215361; FUJIMOTO, Rodrigo Yudi; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9538142371454660The Hypancistrus zebra is an endangered species, but remains illegally captured and sold in the Middle Xingu region, mainly due to lack of creating technology that enable its creation in captivity and reduce the exploitation of natural stocks. Thus, the main objective of this work is to generate maintenance protocols and reproduction of zebra pleco, Hypancistrus zebra in captivity. Therefore, we obtained 300 copies of acari zebra according to SISBIO authorization No. 38215-2 and ethics committee animal No 03.14.00.017.00.00. This study was divided into four chapters, the first being related to conduct an inventory of the species of the Xingu River to select the priority species for the development of farming technologies; Evaluate the acceptability of different food and shelter in maintaining zebra pleco maintained in the laboratory; To evaluate various conditions for inducing playback zebra pleco in tanks and; Evaluate feeding management for fry of F1 generation Hypancistrus zebra. Based on the array were chosen five species of the family Loricariidae (Hypancistrus zebra, Hypancistrus sp.2, Baryancistrus xanthelus, Scobinancistrus sp.3 and Ancistrus sp.4), one species to Potamotrygonidae (Potamotrygon leopoldii) and two species of cichlid (Creniciclha regani and Teleociclha spp.). With respect to the preference for shelters acari zebra time spent in shelters was higher in clay shelters (276 ± 51 day min-1) followed by the stone shelter (198 ± 96 day min-1), outside the shelter (134 ± 15 day min-1), and PVC under (70 ± 52 day min-1). The preference for food the sort order of preference of the food was higher for Artemia sp. followed by food fish, shrimp and mussels. But when the fish fed with Artemia sp. or mix food, they had higher final weight, final length and weight gain compared to single foods with shrimp and fish. Regarding the frequency and feed rate, there was no interaction between the rate and the supply frequency and the frequency 2:03 daily feeds and feed rate of 10% day-1 body weight promote better results of production performance. It was also observed that the best storage density is 2.00 g L-1 to provide the best specific growth rate. Regarding reproduction were observed five spawns from different couples, and 3 to 1 male and 2 females. The biggest male is the dominant territorialist and have parental care. average position of 13.8 ± 6.72 eggs, diameter of 4.4 ± 0.12, volume 41.4 mm3 volume and calf 34.3 mm3. The outbreak is 7 days post fertilization (PF) and PF 17 days the yolk sac has been absorbed. The different values tested for electrical conductivity in the water and hormonal treatments were not enough to promote spawns in acari zebras. Performance figures in fingerlings acari zebra remained similar between the treatments. It follows therefore, that the zebra pleco is the kind of priority Xingu river in technology development. The use of ceramic refuges is the most suitable in Hypancistrus zebra. The zebra pleco should be cultivated at a density of 2 g L-1, and its power is not random, with preference for brine shrimp, which must be distributed in 10% day-1 body weight in 2 daily feedings. In addition to complementary food brine shrimp can be combined to provide similar performance. Captive breeding is however possible new techniques that facilitate the scheduling of reproduction should be evaluated. Furthermore, due to the short larval stage and with great reserve yolk sac, promote healthier fry and being resistant to feed frequency not directly influence on performance.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Protozoan parasites of Xiphophorus spp. (Poeciliidae) and their relation with water characteristics(2009-02) GARCIA, Fabiana; FUJIMOTO, Rodrigo Yudi; MARTINS, Maurício Laterça; MORAES, Flávio Ruas deThis work investigated the relationship between water characteristics and infestation of protozoan parasites, Icthyophthirius multifiliis and Trichodina sp., in swordtails (Xiphophorus helleri) and platy (Xiphophorus maculates) collected in an ornamental fish farm in São Paulo, Brazil. Fish were monthly collected from ponds and tanks for one year. The prevalence rates in fish from tanks and ponds were, respectively, 34.2% and 22.5% for I. multifiliis, and 13% and 54.2% for Trichodina sp. Increased electric conductivity and pH provoked reduction of I. multifiliis infestation. Low oxygen concentration increased Trichodina sp. infestation. The use of salt to increase the electric conductivity of water was a method to control I. multifiliis. Low dissolved oxygen and the addition of organic fertilizer favored the reproduction of Trichodina sp.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Utilização do eugenol como anestésico para o acará severo Heros severus (Heckel, 1840)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-07-20) DIAS, Bruno César Brito; VERAS, Galileu Crovatto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4497651649653210; COSTA, Rauquírio André Albuquerque Marinho da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4504677939464624Thus, two different studies were conducted using eugenol as an anesthetic for severe discus Heros severus. Both studies were conducted in Tropical Fish Laboratory of the School of Coastal Studies Institute of Fisheries Engineering, Federal University of Pará, Campus de Bragança. In the first study aimed to analyze the efficiency of eugenol as an anesthetic for two size classes, fingerlings and adult severe discus and find what the most effective dose in time of induction and recovery of anesthesia. Were used 120 individuals of H. severus, fingerlings (n=60) and adults (n=60). The fingerlings were selected randomly in homogeneous sizes and transferred to six tanks of 60 L, as adults for six aquariums 200L, both at 10 copies per aquarium stocking density. We conducted the experiments in a completely randomized design with six treatments, eugenol concentrations (50; 75; 100; 125; 150 and 175 Mg L-1) and 10 repetitions, and the fish the experimental unit. Based on the findings is recommended for fry concentration of 50 mg L-1 to perform handlings short or long term and for adults, it is recommended that the concentration of 50mg L-1 for short procedures duration and 75 mgL-1 for long procedures. In the second study aimed to evaluate the physiological responses of acará severo adults anesthetized with the ideal concentration of eugenol found in the previous experiment. To perform the assay was used a total of 60 adult severe discus. The fish were placed individually in 60 60L aquariums containing 45L of water. We used a completely randomized design in a factorial 3 x 4 with five repetitions, and the fish the experimental unit. To verify the occurrence of eugenol influence on the physiological and hematological parameters of banded cichlid, was collected the blood of fish subjected to three diferentes protocols procedures anaesthetized (fish exposed to 75 mg L-1 of eugenol during 133 s); simulated anesthesia (fish subjected to a sumulation of anesthetic bath, also for 133 s, with only water and without adding the anesthetic); and control (fish kept in the aquarium without handing and exposure to anesthetic). For each procedure, there were four blood samplings at different times: 0 (immediately after procedure), 6, 12 and 24 h. The withdrawal of the blood sample was taken by puncture from the flow vessel with the held of needles and syringes 1 ml pre-moistened with EDTA 10%. Then were proceeded to carry out folloying analyzes: glucose, hematocrit, (Ht), total protein (Tp), hemoglobin (Hb), number of erytrocytes (Er), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), triglycerides (TGR), and cholesterol (COL). The banded cichlid adult exposure to anesthesia with eugenol in the ideal concentration of 75 mg L-1 by 133 seconds was enough to cause changes in the values of variables, glucose, Ht, Pt, Hb, Er, MCV, MCH, MCHC, COL and TRI. The results from the two studies show that eugenol was effective in inducing fry and adult severe discus to deep anesthesia stage stage in all tested concentrations and the concentration considered ideal for anesthesia of adults was enough to cause changes in the variables analyzed, triggering physiological responses characteristics of stress.
