The agrarian changes occurred in the Amazon region after the settlements and programs creation to support family farmers deserve to be addressed, especially the implications they have in the expansion of pastures and increased deforestation on the one hand, and the expectation that these changes may influence farmers to stay in the same area keeping their production systems. This work presents research results of two settlements of Agrarian Reform located in the town of Maraba-Para at different historical contexts. Relationships between rural credits, implantation of pasture and cattle activity were analyzes. It also evaluates the current situation and prospects of farmers who develop this activity remain on their lots. Uses observation in loco, surveys and interweaver and statistical comparisons to compare groups of establishments with and without credit, with or without the sale of milk, and to assess the differences between indicators of deployment pasture and livestock activities to identify which variables best justify the progress of implementation of pastures as well as of production, productivity and the sale of milk. The increase of pastures implantation is more closely linked to size farm and the time elapsed from first implantation of pasture and less of the credit, but milk production is higher when credit is present. The expansion of livestock by establishment of agrarian reform is hampered by the extensive form of development of this activity, which weakens the perspective of farmers remain on their lots with implications with advancement upon new forested areas and the rural exodus.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2009-03-31) MOREIRA, Liliane Freitas Costa; MOTA, Dalva Maria da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4129724001987611
This study analyses how changes in land tenure regime influences the use of forests by small farmers in the Amazon frontier. The study compared the management practices adopted by farmers in the past, when they hold a communal area of forest, with the practices adopted after the creation of a settlement with each family holding individual plots. Specifically the research focused on changes in access to hunt and in use of slash-and-burn agriculture, both fundamental activities to farmer’s economies. The research was carried out in Santa Maria Community, part of Olho D’Água settlement, in the municipality of Moju, State of Pará, Brazil. The research was conduced between May and July 2008 and included literature review and interviews with local farmers during the field research. The study revealed significant reduction in capture of hunt by local farmers given to restricted access to hunting areas which are now privet and also given to higher demand caused by the increasing number of settled families. As hunt is no longer abundant, farmers intensified slash-and-burn agriculture as a source of food as well as cash income for buying meet in local markets. It is expected that such study fill the gap regarding the lack of researches in the Northern Pará's settlements, especially the relations that the locals have established with the forest in the changes of property regimes.

The Agrarian Reform theme has always been present in a way or the other in some intense discussions on the academic level, since the 20’s. With the democratic openning of 1985, the fight over the possession of land became tought and through occupation the pressure was on the state to desapropriate the mencioned areas. The study of the rural settlements became more intense from the decade of 90, with the increase of labourers settled down, it was formed a real social “microcosmo”. This work looks into the organization on land work by familiar farmers on one of the rural settlements in “São Francisco do Pará” municipality, northeast of Pará. Their organization works with a process that associates man-power and/or capital when organizing production, for some local groups on their agronomy activities. The organization complex ways are based on diversified prodution sistems and guided by social, economic and symbolic relationships that are built on local groups. These relationships might establish the way of reproduction of the diferent familiar groups involved on these locations
