This work presents the project to develop a navigation support system for the visually impaired, based on the proposal to use a cane with electronic devices and a mobile device, aiming to help the visually impaired to find sectors and to move autonomously in a environment mapped. Mapping takes place through the implantation of bands with different colors at strategic points, where each color group identifies the sector in which it is implanted. Once mapped, it will be possible to navigate the nvironment with the support of the cane equipped with an RGB sensor for color collection, a vibration motor for tactile feedback, and a microcontroller with Wi-Fi module to connect to the mobile device. According to the respective set of colors captured by the sensor, the user receives information corresponding to a location, route or object by voice. To verify the applicability, two maps were implanted, one in internal and one external environment. Functional evaluations were performed with the support of a group of volunteers who made the route using the device. As results, qualitative data were presented of the system functionalities, collected during the experiments, through observation of the behavior of the system and application of questionnaires to the users.

Diabetes Mellitus is a complex chronic condition characterized by hyperglycemia and metabolic dysregulations. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2), the most common type of diabetes, is marked by the progressive and irreversible loss of insulin secretion by pancreatic β cells, associated with resistance to insulin action in peripheral tissues, resulting in a higher incidence and late diagnosis. Treatment requires a multifaceted approach, especially in older people, who face additional challenges due to aging. This includes lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise and medication administration, as well as the need for health education to promote treatment adherence and self-care. The DM2 approach demands a holistic view of the patient, considering the particularities of aging. Given the above, the study aims to develop an educational booklet for elderly people living with DM2, aiming to provide easyto-understand information, self-care guidelines and information records. The study is characterized as qualitative and descriptive, divided into two stages: the review of publications from the last five years (2018-2023) on the subject in the VHL, Scielo, Periódicos Capes and Pubmed databases and the development of an assistive technology in the format of primer. 725 results related to the theme proposed during the search were identified. Of these, 111 studies were selected to support the study in question. Among these, 17 studies were highlighted as main results and guided the discussion of the topics. Subsequently, the booklet was created, covering everything from the presentation of what type 2 diabetes is, to the self-care process and recommendations for elderly people. It is concluded, based on the conduct of this study, that the process of health education for the elderly population is essential. Consequently, it aims to strengthen self-care practices, increase adherence to medication therapy, promote lifestyle changes and raise awareness about the importance of preventing complications in elderly people living with DM2. Such measures aim to improve the overall quality of life of these individuals.

    Iniciativas inovadoras que promovem acessibilidade
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2020-05-28) VIEIRA, Mayara de Oliveira; VAZ, Cristina Lúcia Dias; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5829728118120411
This work is the result of an investigation into "Innovative initiatives that promote accessibility" and started from the following question: which innovative processes and/or products promote accessibility for people with disabilities within higher education? It has, as its methodological field, the method of cartography from the perspective of an intervention research in order to make visible subjective processes and monitor both objective and subjective processes. The study sought to investigate processes and/or products with the potential to promote communicational, architectural or instrumental and attitudinal accessibility, either by solving a problem or by a new approach. To this purpose, three research territories were chosen. In the first one, on Communication Accessibility, the "KitAcesso" was researched and produced, consisting of five applications, five info graphics, a workshop and an informative blog. The applications were selected through curatorship, specialized readings, supervised internship guidance and searches on websites supported by selection criteria. Info graphics were elaborated as a form of documentation. For the production of the research data, a workshop was held on the processes developed and, finally, the creation of a blog to disseminate of the kit. The second territory, on Accessibility with Rapid Prototyping, there was also the process of research and production of "KitAccessSol" compounded by the solution of two accessibility problems. The first one on architectural and instrumental accessibility through the design, model and 3D printing of a keyboard adapted for people with low vision. The second one on architectural accessibility through the design and model of a mobile ramp access to the drinking fountain of the postgraduate building in the Instituto de Tecnologia da UFPA. The kit also includes a on the adapted keyboard construction process. These problems were investigated during a curatorship of projects, programs and products on free websites on rapid prototyping and during a survey in the accessibility coordination of UFPA. To the third territory, on Attitudinal Accessibility by Art, the film "The Shape of Water" was chosen to reflect on attitudinal accessibility seeking to understand how film language can reinforce stereotypes, myths and prejudices that were historically and culturally built, as well as in order to contribute to dialogue on inclusion. The cartography from these territories went the long way along both the elaboration of laws that ensure rights of people with disabilities and in the construction of processes and/or products that promote accessibility, particularly in higher education, with an approach that sought to be broad, but considering important particularities. There is a great lack of knowledge about applications that help people with disabilities and it is necessary to promote digital literacy on accessibility at the university. Despite technological advances, the 3D printer is still little used at the university level as a tool to promote accessibility, a few simple and low cost projects in Assistive Technology are implemented and there is a lack of trained professionals in this area. As for attitudinal accessibility, there is a great silence that needs to be broken, we believe that Art is a promising way as it approaches sensitivity to promote encounters, which can mean the changes we have dreamed of and a more inclusive society.

Cerebral palsy is a chronic disease characterized by a dysfunction predominantly sensorymotor disorders involving muscle tone, posture and voluntary movement, presenting a diversity of clinical characteristics that may be aggravated by limitations of knowledge and life experiences, being considered, often, the mentally disabled because they can not express themselves and not interact functionally in most cases, unable to articulate speech or hold a pencil to learn to write, compromising, often, the process of learning and literacy, together with a flawed methodology and inappropriate for the difficulties that these children are in the process of acquiring the prerequisites for reading and writing. Even with all its limitations are keen to interact with the world and provide indicative that the difficulties can be eliminated or minimized if learning technologies and support are nurtured. It is proposed to three studies a documentary and two experimental. The studies were developed in the Center for Development in Assistive Technology and Accessibility - NEDETA. The first, being a data collection to characterize children with cerebral palsy treated at NEDETA. The second and third integrating technology education based on the paradigm of stimulus equivalence, associated with the resources of Assistive Technology. Study 2 consisted of motor training with 03 steps: Step 1 - Drive with toys, Step 2 - Drive to your computer without selection; Step 3 - Drive with selection and Study 3, with 4 stages, Stage I involved the pretest , consisting of the application of the evaluation software Develops ® performed in study 1 and the reading tests of the taught words and words of widespread identity. Phase II involved two steps: Step 1. Teaching relations of identity and Step 2. Teaching arbitrary relations. Step 1 showed a sub step consisted of widespread identity test. Step 2 was a sub step consisted of testing equivalence. Phase III consisted of reading test recombination with six new words that were formed from the syllables of the words teaching. Finishing procedures were reapplied assessment Develops Software ®., All the stages and phases of the study 2 and 3 were developed using assistive technology, developing, and computer applications for teaching basic prerequisites for learning reading. The results provide evidence that the teaching procedure used promoted to one of four participants, the six generalized recombinational reading new words, the two other participants to read recombinational three new words and one of the participants failed to reach this stage by not have documented equivalence classes. The procedures used in this thesis suggest that the systematic manipulation of smaller units that the word may be a promising strategy for the development of reading, combining the paradigm of stimulus equivalence with phonological awareness exercises. TA and resources can contribute and promote inclusive education of students with PC, expanding their social interactions and minimizing academic difficulties.

This study address the use of means of the Braille code in order to make the visually impaired student get hold of mathematical structures with a view to using math elements, from math in Braille in public school in the city of Belém / Pará, with the motivating question: what the consequences of the effects of desbrailização in math lessons to a blind student elementary school, being to objective of the research, analyzing the effects of Desbrailização school math classes to a blind student included in teaching regular. In this sense habitat, the visually impaired students need to analyze, at all times, information reaching them in order to make decisions that may be more convenient and adjusted with the teacher mediations, interacting with the student more effectively and thus make that tasks take another direction. Methodologically, instruments such as interviews, footage, depositions, class accompaniments in no regular educational environment were necessary for the purpose of the study was developed in the research perspective with qualitative approach. Also semi- structured interviews were part of the data collection framework. In this study, we saw that, to stimulate the process of teaching and learning, there was the need to establish more consistent strategies in order to attract more students, preferably exploring as much as possible, tactile perception, and in this case was created one educational product adapted to substantiate the study of angles, encouraging the writing and reading Braille. The results showed the lack of preparation of materials in Braille for visually impaired students resulting in episodes of desbrailização and the need for research in order to point out ways that reduce the obstacles faced by students in condition of disability.

The research deals the specific preparation of education professionals in the condition of Ledor for advising people with visual impairments. It aims to analyze how professionals working in this area interact due to the appropriation of perceptions during this preparation. The condition of accessibility instrument, while training, conducts this research. In this sense, an attempt was made to answer the question: How are the perceptions of special education professionals during Ledor training for people with visual impairments? The support of Vygotsky's defectology fundamentals and elements of the theoretical-philosophical assumptions verified in Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations about language and conceptualizations with reflections about “seeing and seeing as” according to Gottschalk's considerations (2006), supported our added research with focal aspects on visual impairment/debrailization: Moraes (2016), conceptualization: Barros (2016), parameterization: Carlomagno and Rocha (2016), training: Gonçalves (2000), ledor: Machado (2020) and Canuto (2022) among others . This contribution enabled dialogues about the path and perceptions of research collaborators, participants of the Ledor 2021 course, carried out at the request of Professor Arlindo Gomes de Paula, former Director of UEES Prof. Campos Asterio. The qualitative methodology used in the research text covers preparation to act in accessibility to reading both common texts and graphic variations. The construction of this Ledor instrument is justified because in the Pará market there was no pedagogical tool that met the demand to work in the condition of Ledor. The thesis showed the feasibility of preparing an instrumental Ledor for people with visual impairments, that there are issues proposed by institutions that promote selective processes that are against the grain of the inclusive process and there is a necessity to apply a national educational policy for the description of images in schooling of basic education.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2019-05-24) SILVA, Andrei Luiz Demetrio e; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208; FÜLBER, Heleno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5018616409948511
The act of making purchases is seen as a simple task for most people. However, for someone with visual impairment it can mean something complex or even impossible to realize without the help of others. In order to overcome this barrier and enable the realization of the selection of products in an autonomous way by the visually impaired, the proposed system was developed. Using a microcontroller interconnected to a radio frequency sensor and an audio reproducer, an embedded system (coupled to a glove) was built, which together with a database query service made possible its implantation. Its use was evaluated by two groups of participants through the accomplishment of a case study set in a supermarket. The first group consisted only of visually impaired, while the second group was blind sighted participants, who were blindfolded to simulate newly acquired blindness. With the accomplishment of this work, it was possible for people with visual impairment to perform a product selection process autonomously, reaching a mean assertiveness index of 92.5%.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2019-05-23) OLIVEIRA, Alex Santos de; FERREIRA, João Elias Vidueira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8018691254585785; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208
Technological advancement has helped the integration of the visually impaired by increasing access to education. This paper presents a proposal to update the application Quimivox Mobile, developed for Android devices, which presents a tool accessible to the visually impaired, giving access to periodic table of chemical elements via synthesis of Voice and commanded by global gestures that do not require pointing to specific elements of the interface. In order to enable vident/visually impaired collaboration, the application also provides visual returns. In addition to the numerical and organizational information provided by the periodic table, the Quimivox Mobile provides several explanatory and qualitative information regarding the: family, period, classification and main uses of the element. The application also adds accessible information about the distribution of electrons in layers and energy sublevels, based on the Linus Pauling diagram and analyzing the data obtained through the evaluation of the application. Consequently, the visually impaired may have greater autonomy in the study of the periodic table and the electronic distribution of the chemical elements when using the new application. Thus, a better teaching and learning of chemistry becomes possible, with equality in the use of technologies with accessibility techniques using mobile devices with touch screen and open source operating system.

T-Tátil: desenvolvimento de uma tecnologia assistiva para auxiliar pessoas com deficiência visual na leitura e interpretação de desenhos táteis
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2019-12-12) ZAMPROGNO, Leonardo Zani; FERREIRA, João Elias Vidueira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8018691254585785; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208
Graphic content, including images, drawings, schematics and maps, is effective in providing a considerable amount of information concentrated in a small space, allowing a better organization of data and information series so that they are easily understood. They are widely used in the teaching process at all levels of education. Naturally, visually impaired people do not have easy access to such contents. Other strategies are used by visually impaired people to access graphic contents, one of them is the use of tactile drawings that enable to explore graphic representations using the sensory touch system for this task. However, it is difficult for visually impaired people to be autonomous in reading and exploring tactile drawings usually needs the help of a sighted person to provide initial information, such as the general message conveyed by the tactile drawing, and to guide the individual in step-by-step reading. The absence of such a person may make it impossible or considerably difficult for visually impaired people to use tactile drawings. Assistive technologies have been developed to make it easier for visually impaired people to access graphic data and even to make displays more dynamic. In this paper we list some of the main assistive technologies that aim at helping visually impaired people to read and interpret tactile graphs using various forms of feedback for vision substitute sensory systems. After studying different strategies for exploring tactile designs adopted by visually impaired people, we proposed to develop an application for ordinary tablets exploring the benefit of multimodal interactions by overlaying tactile designs printed on touchscreens intended to assist the visually impaired people in reading tactile drawings. After confirming that interactions with current touchscreens devices are possible through the papers used to explore tactile designs superimposed on the screen. In a case of study, the application prototype was tested with three blind students demonstrating that the solution has a promising approach to improve exploration of tactile designs. It also raised improvement requirements. After the implementation of these improvements, a controlled experiment with 8 blind participants was performed to compare the exploration of tactile designs with braille subtitles with multimodal tactile designs, using the developed application, and to evaluate the application usability through a SUS (System Usability Scale) questionnaire. The results showed that the application has excellent usability, according to the participants, and that the task of tactile exploration is more enjoyable, easier and faster with multimodal tactile designs, demonstrating also a performance gain and improved understanding of tactile design, and at last that user satisfaction was higher when using the application.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2020-07-10) OLIVEIRA, Mônica Silva de; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208; VERAS, Adonney Allan de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2201652617167877; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7227-0590
Assistive Technologies has contributed significantly to the inclusion process, encompassing solutions that contribute to the dynamic and gradual construction of the teaching-learning process. It is possible to realize over the years the development of many computational solutions in this area for the visually impaired. However, there is also a strong need for productions in specific areas, such as Genetics, a subarea of Biological Sciences, still little explored. Analyzing this gap, the work in question proposes to make use of mobile devices as a facilitating tool in the inclusion process, through the development of an assistance application to assist in the teaching of classical genetics to students with visual impairments in the regular classroom. Allied to the mobile application, a web platform is proposed to promote and facilitate the interaction between students and professors of the discipline. Based on the survey of requirements and usability tests, through the SUS Usability Scale, the application interface was developed, according to meet the needs of the users. This study was carried out in the city of Tucuruí, the southeastern region of Pará. The results obtained in relation to the use of the application by the participants, show a high level of satisfaction (80%), also allowing it to be used by the visually impaired student to study inside and outside the school environment.

Tecnologia de processamento de imagem para orientação de deficientes visuais dentro do espaço residencial
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-03) ABDON, Leonardo Miranda; SILVA FILHO, Manoel da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2032152778116209
This work seeks to develop a product of assistive technology based on the Raspberry Pi platform in order to allow greater autonomy inside residential spaces for individuals with blindness. Therefore, it was assembled a wearable obstacle detection and path orienting system that uses a camera to capture images directed to the floor immediately in front of the user, in order to identify QR codes created specifically to generate responses within the written algorithm, so that responses are emitted through vibratory patterns in motors and recorded sentences through headphones. The system was developed in this way in order to allow autonomy in the choice of paths by the user with the aid of a low-cost assistive technology product, easily accessible and maintainable, and flexible in regard to the user's needs and preferences. The system’s capabilities were tested in a fixed setup inside a controlled study room without windows and in a movable setup in a controlled corridor, and the results were satisfactory regarding to the detection distances of paths and obstacles and the swiftness of emission of responses. Finally, a body vest made with bag straps was designed and the developed system was installed into it, to be used as a simple and nonintrusive wearable device.
