This term was created during the Spanish Civil War, when, at that time, the army of four columns led by General Francisco Franco was approaching Madrid marching against the legalistic government of Azaña. Fifth-Column would refer to a group of spies who would report about strategies, organization and actions of the ruling group to the enemy. This term was spread around the world being appropriated during World War II to designate those who would serve as spies for Germany, Italy and Japan that were known, at that time, as "subjects of the Axis". They were constantly harassed through the printed letters from newspapers, or through the radio programs, movies, literature or even the theater. Federal legislation was also used, as well as the Cordel Brochure O Brasil rompeu com eles, from Zé Vicente.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Além da pedra e cal: a (re)construção do Forte do Presépio (Belém do Pará, 2000-2004)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2007-12-07) COSTA, Dayseane Ferraz da; CHAMBOULEYRON, Rafael Ivan; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7906172621582952This dissertation discusses the process of restoration of the Forte do Presépio in Belém do Pará (Brazil), in 2000, and its transformation into a museum. In addition to the film, elements such as infrastructure and advertising plays a major role in order to create an atmosphere of seduction and involvement with the images displayed. The track of the cinema, among other ways, is linked to the viewer, the physical space of projection rooms and the sociability it worked out. This essay discusses the cinema in the city of Belém (Pará) in the 1920s. To investigate how much the cinema interacted with the urban scene that period. Likewise, we discuss elements of the infrastructure of the rooms such as accommodation, ventilation, and music. We sought to demonstrate that the act of watching a movie in the state capital of those years was just a part of the "ritual" of frequenting the cinema, hence the concern to understand the forms of sociability processed within those rooms. Besides, it is an analysis of the cinema acting as a mediator of social representations of gender and childhood.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Os Cadernos do Promotor: as ações do Tribunal do Santo Ofício no Maranhão e Grão-Pará (1640-1750)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2018-06-25) CARVALHO, Leila Alves de; ARENZ, Karl Heinz; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4213810951901055This research aims to analyse how the actions of the Court of the Holy Office in the Portuguese Amazon – Maranhão and Grão-Pará – within the temporal space which extends from 1640 to 1750. The intention is to understand the strategies employed by the Holy Office as a way of spreading its power in a period prior to the Visitation of 1763 during Pombal’s rule within the reality of the colony market by its huge extension and its diverse populations. In this context, we search to identify its agents, as well as the forms used to implement moral and religious discipline in this space and in this society. We will base ourselves, as main source, on the manuscripts of the Promoter of the Inquisition of Lisbon, and through them, try to detect the procedures established by the inquisitorial agents; quantitatively and qualitatively, which were the most relevant complaints from the Court's point of view; and to identify, for which reason some complaints did not turn into processes.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) O candomblé no Amapá: história, memória, imigração e hibridismo cultural(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2008) PEREIRA, Decleoma Lobato; PINTO, Benedita Celeste de Moraes; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7489392738166786Using as sources the oral memory, documents, prints and vídeo images, the present study deals with the relations that are established among the practices of Candomblé, Umbanda, “Mina” and Cure, in “terreiros” from Macapá, state of amapá. Since the 40’s of the last century the Afro-Brazilian religions have been settling in the region, brought by immigrants from other states of the Brazilian Federation, and in this process they have been touching, interacting and mixing to each other. The Candomblé though recent, from the 80’s of the 20th century, acquired a great visibility and has been increasing a lot the number of adhesions to this religion of followers from other Afro-Brazilian religions, in virtue of the expectations and conceptions of superiority that were created about it. Therefore to attend it’s necessities and demands of the clientele “fathers and mothers of saint” make use of practices of many Afro-religions denominations. This way, the Candomblé’s rituals show up as one more add, an extra element in the amount of religious knowledge acquired along the life an in the religious life of priests, who are responsible for the “terreiros” from Macapá. Like that this study contributed to rethink the importance of the studies that involve the cultural immigration phenomena, with the installing of a new cultural system in a society in expansion, the changes that it provokes in the cultural scene that is inserted an in the cultural system in question.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Caridade e saúde pública em tempo de epidemias. Belém 1850-1890(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) COSTA, Magda Nazaré Pereira da; FIGUEIREDO, Aldrin Moura de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4671233730699231Forced to face a serious epidemic crisis that started nearly throughout the second half of the XIX century, the inhabitants of Belém witness, from that moment on, an intense social mobilization that sought to preserve public health in the city. Public health had long ceased being object of interest to the “governo provincial” and now felt the rage of yellow fever, cholera and chickenpox which were erratically making victims around town. Based on these factos this paper seeks to analize some ways used to contain the spread of cases of these cliseases in the capital of the “Província do Pará”, by stressing the sanitary strategies put fort by the people connected to medical science. Such strategies, in most cases carried out by public administration, did not yield worthwhile results; but they interfered with and significatly modified the ways of providing assistance to the most needy patients who were in general helped in the name of charity at the “Santa Casa de Misericórdia” Hospital. The lack of knowledge concerning the etiology of those diseases brought up an even bitterer ideology conflict among medical doctors who disagreed about the possible sources of the epidemic and about the kind of therapeutic methods to be provided to patients at the same time that the risk of contamination also increased “compassion” and “charity” of al who had been direct or indirectly threatened by those diseases.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) As casas & as coisas: um estudo sobre vida material e domesticidade nas moradias de Belém – 1800-1850(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) GUIMARÃES, Luiz Antonio Valente; VIEIRA JÚNIOR, Antonio Otaviano; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6764908679902300This dissertation has the concern in studying the urban homes of Belém in the first half of the century XIX. To identify the social relationships built in these domestic atmospheres, investigated through the use and consumption of objects found in the inventories post mortem, newspapers, travelers' reports and other documentations. To point the path of the influences that suffered the domestic atmospheres, incorporating or producing their own relationships with the house space is a task that I try to discuss. The domesticidade senses permeated by the relative notion of privacy and to the limited access to the consumption of goods materials are possibilities that emerge along the study. It is in this group that I investigate the meaning that the comfort notions, praticidade are projected in the domestic furnitures, and with this to read as the urban inhabitant represented those sensibilities before the residence place in this capital paraense in the middle of the century XIX.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Castanheiros, agricultores e índios: conflitos pelos usos da terra em castanhais do médio Tocantins (1948-1980)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2009) CARNEIRO, Aldair José Dias; FARIAS, William Gaia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553754490715388This paper pays attention for the symbolisms that the grows of chestnut trees from the Medium Tocantins acquired during more than a half century of occupation since, at least, 1892, mainly on the limits from the towns of Marabá and Itupiranga/Pará. For someones, the groves of chestnut trees lands were only sources of income, important way to profit. Those were the motives because the land and the forest products were succesfully appropriated, mainly by ranchers, sellers of chest nuts and municipal representatives. Fore others they constituted inerent spaces for life and which natural environment revelated an essence of a cultural production as the case of the familiar farmers tradicionally installed on little villages and isolated localities. Those adequated traditions on the occupied spaces and developed small agricultures taking as a base forest products as a complement for their subsistences. Embased by written resources and analyzing the memory about the grows of chestnut trees from the medium Tocantins detached the period between 1948 and 1980, with the purpose to visualize the causes and consequences from this antagonism of ideas and points of view relating them with the ways of dealing with the soil and the resources got available by them.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A cidade de Camilo: escravidão urbana em Belém do Grão Pará (1871-1888)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2012-06-26) LAURINDO JUNIOR, Luiz Carlos; BEZERRA NETO, José Maia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7000143949499821The objective of this dissertation consists in the analysis of some aspects of black slavery in the city of Belem, between 1871 (year of the promulgation of the Law of the Free Womb) and may 1888 (when slavery was abolished). The focus of the research is directed to the “human experience” and the “everyday life” of a population that, despite being significant (at least until the middle of the 1880 decade), does not usually appear in the historiography about Belem in the late 19th century, commonly called Belem of the BelleÉpoque. Component elements of this context, as the boom of the rubber economy, the propagation of the ideas of “civilization”, “modernity” and “progress”, and the growth of the free population, end up leaving no space to the slaves that resided and/or roaming around the city and nuanced its landscape. The criminal process in which was the defendant one of this urban slaves, Camilo João Amancio, will be the conducting wire of the four chapters of this dissertation, that address the following problems: the relation of slaves with the police and justice; their insertion in the world of labor and in the urban market of slaves; the uses and meanings of non-work time that they disposed; and the networks of sociability that they wove with the most diverse individuals.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A cidade e os “bichos”: poder público, sociedade e animais em Belém (1892-1917)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-01-09) VIEIRA, David Durval Jesus; MOURÃO, Leila; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5665064793338456Throughout the nineteenth century, municipal governments banned certain uses, as permanence and circulation of animals in Belém through the “Códigos de Posturas”. Even after Antonio Lemos Stewardship (1897-1911), during the peak of rubber economy and the consolidation of the republican regime, the bans remained, and to it were added measures and practical actions as the creation of a Municipal Guard. This dissertation investigates how the government wanted to discipline the residents of the state capital in the use of animals and results of this, focusing the analysis on three types of bans: mistreating pack animals, letting livestock animals of any kind loose on the streets and squares, and owning dogs without the municipal license. To this end, we investigated sources as “Códigos de Posturas”, “Relatórios dos Intendentes Municipais”, newspapers, literature and images. I analyzed this documentation using concepts such as nature and civilization, in the perspective of the environmental history.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A ciência do governar: positivismo, evolucionismo e natureza em Lauro Sodré(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) COELHO, Alan Watrin; FIGUEIREDO, Aldrin Moura de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4671233730699231The journalistic polemic that, in 1881, involved the then lieutenant Lauro Sodré, bishop D. Macedo Costa and catholic newspaper A Boa Nova occurred in a moment in which the factors that provoked the future deterioration of the Brazilian Empire were already present in Brazilian society. In this work, we aimed at studying the confrontation as a discursive representation of an ideological clash in the social and intellectual aspects of Brazil in the late years of the XIX century: concerning Lauro Sodré, science and progress, appointed as fundamental instruments to the Republic; concerning A Boa Nova, faith and religion, considered essential instruments to the Monarchy. According to the philosophical-historical perspective of positivism, such questions were basic to the process of social evolution, including its political aspects. It shall be also noted that, in the masterpiece of evolutionist theory, Charles Darwin‟s On the origin of species by means of natural selection (1859), historical movement is decisively subordinated to natural laws and is, therefore, inserted in the broader process of evolution of the Universe. Evolution is effectively considered not as a simple movement, but as an improvement, a progress. To the positivist eyes of Lauro Sodré, the idea of a Monarchy connected to the survival of the conception of divine origin of Power appeared as a valid representation of the non-epistemological states of Humanity: the Metaphysical and the Theological ones; on the other hand, the Republic appeared as the only form of government “compatible with human dignity”. Projecting this polemic on the Brazilian mental realities of that time, we obtain, ultimately, the revelation of one of the components of the nature and forms that the complex relations between philosophical thought and hegemonic political object acquired in the movement of the ideas in Brazil towards the end of the XIX century.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Os corpos de trabalhadores na província do Grão-Pará: outros significados para uma política de arregimentação da mão de obra (1835-1840)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2012-11-27) LOPES, Patrícia Raiol Castro de Melo; COELHO, Mauro Cezar; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7187368960757936The years of the first half of 19th century are marked by the court attempt to fit the provinces in their pattern of civilization and introduce it in the Imperial State. In Grão-Pará, territory unification and empire consolidation had some conflicts caused by Cabana rebellions. Portuguese Empire called marshal Francisco José de Souza Soares d’Andréa to combat cabanos. Among his worries there were issues such as political disputes between local authorities, military restoration, population control and regional economy development, all related to manpower problems and its insufficiency to perform required services in the province. This is how his speeches take measures to control and civilize the population, defending the renewal of habits and encouraging work. On april 25, 1838, president Soares d’Andréa regulate in Grão-Pará the politics of free worker regimentation establishing a provincial constitution called “Corpos de Trabalhadores”. During some time “Corpos de Trabalhadores” came up in the history as an institution which only aimed the rebel population control in Pará, as an entity to stop Cabanos. Mentioned in the beginning by Cabangem students the economic importance of the corporation is still an object of research. Accordingly, the “Corpos de Trabalhadores” has other meanings. Besides a tool with the objective of population control, the corporation was an attempt to bring peace through manpower concentration. It intended men enlist for necessary services to province economic restoration. In marshal Andréa politic project the key was development, reorganization of industry and Grão-Pará market. Besides, the institution was a politic arrangement between Imperial State and the ones who represented important people in the region.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Cruentas guerras: índios e portugueses nos sertões do Maranhão e Piauí (primeira metade do século XVIII)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011-08-19) MELO, Vanice Siqueira de; CHAMBOULEYRON, Rafael Ivan; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7906172621582952In the captaincies of Maranhão and of Piauí, in Portuguese America, there were many wars against Indians throughout the first half of the eighteenth century. This dissertation discusses how the space of these captaincies was described in colonial texts, as well as how the troops contributed to transform the landscape of the region. This dissertation examines how the colonial landscape was composed both by the Indians spaces and by the relationship that indigenous groups established with each other and with Luso-brazilian settlers. This dissertation also discusses how the wars were part of power relations within the State Maranhão and Grão-Pará and how their occurrence depended on specific political interests.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Cultura popular no Guamá: um estudo sobre o boi bumbá e outras práticas culturais em um bairro de periferia de Belém(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2009) DIAS JÚNIOR, José do Espírito Santo; PETIT PEÑARROCHA, Pedro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5274413688512181This dissertation deals with popular culture in the neighborhood of Guamá in Belém of Pará, on the premise that some cultural expressions in the district strengthen the relationship between the identification of such “cultural producers” and the area of xperience. The result of this experience during the 19th century in Belem, was negative, resulting in a repulse of these practices.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Daquilo que se come: uma história do abastecimento e da alimentação em Belém (1850-1900)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2009-09-04) MACÊDO, Sidiana da Consolação Ferreira de; VIEIRA JÚNIOR, Antonio Otaviano; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6764908679902300This dissertation focuses on the food history in Belém (State of Pará, Brazil) between 1850 and 1900. Because of this behavior, some authors blame the administrators for the "failure" of the Indians’ Directory. This work, considering restricted this formulated vision, aims to understand better who were the directors that worked in Pará Captaincy. By analyzing the sources, found that those subjects occupied the chambers of the Villages, military troops and requested land grants and mercies. Regarding the latter, specifically, the directors required in return to their services in the Portuguese Amazon. Alongside these services, the directors committed a series of transgressions in the villages aiming to access local resources. Thus, we argue that serve the Portuguese crown and transgress one of its laws, the Indians’ Directory, were not incompatible practices but, coexisting on the day of the administrators. This is because the service and transgression was constituted on key strategies for achieving success in the region. It is due to be used for this purpose, which argued also that the transgression continued to exist on a large scale in the Grão-Pará of the second half of the eighteenth century, even as a practice on which there was moral criticism among the inhabitants of the society, and even she happening in a period in which Portugal sought to have a more effective political and economic control in the kingdom and overseas.
