Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A ciência do governar: positivismo, evolucionismo e natureza em Lauro Sodré(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) COELHO, Alan Watrin; FIGUEIREDO, Aldrin Moura de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4671233730699231The journalistic polemic that, in 1881, involved the then lieutenant Lauro Sodré, bishop D. Macedo Costa and catholic newspaper A Boa Nova occurred in a moment in which the factors that provoked the future deterioration of the Brazilian Empire were already present in Brazilian society. In this work, we aimed at studying the confrontation as a discursive representation of an ideological clash in the social and intellectual aspects of Brazil in the late years of the XIX century: concerning Lauro Sodré, science and progress, appointed as fundamental instruments to the Republic; concerning A Boa Nova, faith and religion, considered essential instruments to the Monarchy. According to the philosophical-historical perspective of positivism, such questions were basic to the process of social evolution, including its political aspects. It shall be also noted that, in the masterpiece of evolutionist theory, Charles Darwin‟s On the origin of species by means of natural selection (1859), historical movement is decisively subordinated to natural laws and is, therefore, inserted in the broader process of evolution of the Universe. Evolution is effectively considered not as a simple movement, but as an improvement, a progress. To the positivist eyes of Lauro Sodré, the idea of a Monarchy connected to the survival of the conception of divine origin of Power appeared as a valid representation of the non-epistemological states of Humanity: the Metaphysical and the Theological ones; on the other hand, the Republic appeared as the only form of government “compatible with human dignity”. Projecting this polemic on the Brazilian mental realities of that time, we obtain, ultimately, the revelation of one of the components of the nature and forms that the complex relations between philosophical thought and hegemonic political object acquired in the movement of the ideas in Brazil towards the end of the XIX century.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) As casas & as coisas: um estudo sobre vida material e domesticidade nas moradias de Belém – 1800-1850(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) GUIMARÃES, Luiz Antonio Valente; VIEIRA JÚNIOR, Antonio Otaviano; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6764908679902300This dissertation has the concern in studying the urban homes of Belém in the first half of the century XIX. To identify the social relationships built in these domestic atmospheres, investigated through the use and consumption of objects found in the inventories post mortem, newspapers, travelers' reports and other documentations. To point the path of the influences that suffered the domestic atmospheres, incorporating or producing their own relationships with the house space is a task that I try to discuss. The domesticidade senses permeated by the relative notion of privacy and to the limited access to the consumption of goods materials are possibilities that emerge along the study. It is in this group that I investigate the meaning that the comfort notions, praticidade are projected in the domestic furnitures, and with this to read as the urban inhabitant represented those sensibilities before the residence place in this capital paraense in the middle of the century XIX.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) História, memória e natureza: as comunidades da Ilha do Combu-Belém-PA(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) DERGAN, João Marcelo Barbosa; MOURÃO, Leila; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5665064793338456The use of natural resources and territory overpasses echonomical, social and symbolic shappings for production and reproduction of populations said to be traditional .in the case of combu island inhabitants the strategy of using the resources and territory impact within those aspects, at times through the handling and extractivism of the açai palm tree, which supports 90 % of the budget during peak periods, at times through the use, selectionand apropriation of the memory as to consolidate values atitudes facing the dispute for the land, relating to the with the reproduction of the community itself while being active member, at the hegemonical disputes of power in the present times.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Os Donos de São Benedito: convenções e rebeldias na luta entre o catolicismo tradicional e devocional na cultura de Bragança, século XX(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) SILVA, Dario Benedito Rodrigues Nonato da; FONTES, Edilza Joana Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9447513031256372This dissertation discusses images and representations found in Literature and conflicts for the cultural control in the Commemoration, the Fraternity and the Marujada of Saint Benedict, in the city of Bragança, state of Para, in the Brazilian Amazon, since the thirtieth decade, in the 20th century. Belém 1850-1890(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) COSTA, Magda Nazaré Pereira da; FIGUEIREDO, Aldrin Moura de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4671233730699231Forced to face a serious epidemic crisis that started nearly throughout the second half of the XIX century, the inhabitants of Belém witness, from that moment on, an intense social mobilization that sought to preserve public health in the city. Public health had long ceased being object of interest to the “governo provincial” and now felt the rage of yellow fever, cholera and chickenpox which were erratically making victims around town. Based on these factos this paper seeks to analize some ways used to contain the spread of cases of these cliseases in the capital of the “Província do Pará”, by stressing the sanitary strategies put fort by the people connected to medical science. Such strategies, in most cases carried out by public administration, did not yield worthwhile results; but they interfered with and significatly modified the ways of providing assistance to the most needy patients who were in general helped in the name of charity at the “Santa Casa de Misericórdia” Hospital. The lack of knowledge concerning the etiology of those diseases brought up an even bitterer ideology conflict among medical doctors who disagreed about the possible sources of the epidemic and about the kind of therapeutic methods to be provided to patients at the same time that the risk of contamination also increased “compassion” and “charity” of al who had been direct or indirectly threatened by those diseases.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) O Pará em festa: política e cultura nas comemorações do Sesquicentenário da Adesão (1973)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) MORAES, Cleodir da Conceição; FONTES, Edilza Joana Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9447513031256372The following dissertation discusses the relation between politic and the culture of the configuration of a certain interpretation of the man and the amazon nature realities in the beginning of the 70´s. As they are official cultural bureaus, they covered a group of highbrowns with a high recognition in the national and regional cultural environment, having the goal of carrying the civilizing mission on that the military governors made in order to prepare the people - or a part of them - , to the Great Brazil Force that they believed to be current. On he local, the highbrows of the CEC-PA contributed with this goal, that sought the cultural integration of the Country, and its political and economical integration at the same time. As a "monstruos occurrence" - paraphrasing the French historian Pierre Nora - , the celebrations for the fifteen hundredth anniversary offer us an opening to understand this recent past of the national and local history and the role of the CEC-PA in the elaboration and authorized diffusion of a certain Amazon reality conception.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) “Germes de grandeza”: Antônio Ladislau Monteiro Baena e a descrição de uma província do Norte durante a formação do Império brasileiro (1823-1850)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) BARROS, Michelle Rose Menezes de; RICCI, Magda Maria de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4368326880097299The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the corpus of the portuguese writer Antônio Ladislau Monteiro Baena as well as his military work in the Province of Pará in the first decades of Nineteenth Century. The city has become a laboratory of Experiences that propose to cure it in order to reach such divulged economic development. The city has been left in the doctor’s hands. The consolidation of this alliance has been given To the well-known sanitarian Oswaldo Cruz, that arrived in Belém City in 1910 to fight Against the yellow fever with the complete support of the governor João Coelho.
