Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) A Alta modernidade e a revolução socioambiental: indivíduo e coletividade na reprodução sociometabólica do desenvolvimento e da sustentabilidade na Amazônia(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2009-12-18) COSTA, Gilson da Silva; HURTIENNE, Thomas Peter; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7133222063843073This thesis is a study of contemporary marxism sociology on the High Modernity around the relationship between individual and collectivity in the sociometabolic reproduction of the development and the sustainability - with cutout for Great Amazon, Post-War, from emergence of the Information Society Global. This is particularly the socio-economic phenomena, and socio-political currents in Latin America, the Caribean and Great Amazon, from its urban world and its correlation with the field. It runs thoughts on the prospect of socialist revolution based on Social and Environmental Revolution, featuring the politically historic stage of high modernity when there is participation or non-participation of the individual and community (peoples, working class) and what are its effects on for capital, labor, state and nature - from the daily practice in the pursuit of sustainability (social, economic, political, cultural and environmental). It examines how the process of sociometabolic reproduction of current capitalist society deepens the alienation, ideology, and skepticism among the working classes and peoples of Latin America - which is manifested in the dialectical contradiction between individual and community via participation or political apathy. Filtered through the perspective of sociometabolic building of the rational development and effective sustainability through Socialist, Environmental or Ecosocialist Revolution. Throughout the chapters, the thesis discusses the emergence of collective action and social capital in Latin America and these may or may not influence the disruption and construction of this new societal formation, since the mechanism of mobilization, involvement and political and critical participation of the communities, and of social and political subject of the revolution in the macro region. Some theoretical and methodological contributions to the field of Historical and Dialectical Materialism and General Systems Theory are promoted in the work. The theoretical contributions are articulated around interpretations and formulations such as the rational and effective sustainability, within and between dialectical permanent; socialism or extermination; “hecatombstagflation”; environmental revolution, hyper-alienation; super-ideology; ultra-skepticism; revolutionary social capital, among others. The methodological contributions arise from the junction of the method of study, analysis and interpretation of Historical Dialectic Materialism (HDM) and General Systems Theory (GST), articulated in the formulations: Historical Ecological Cybernated System (HECS); Dialectical Materialism and Historical Systemic (DMHS), which allow for greater analytical power and explanatory observations, readings and interpretations of facts, phenomena and situations addressed in this research. Weaving a wireless connection between the elements that deal with the capitalist development in high modernity - from the individual and the collectivity forward to the radicalization of alienation, ideology, and skepticism in the Global Informational Society - setting the phenomenon of development from a Marxist theoretical framework. The work discusses the relevance of the Socialist Revolution and the perspective of the Environmental Revolution, and the potential, limitations and opportunities of a Program of Transition to Socialism Ecological, Environmental or Ecosocialist, because the process of sociometabolic reproduction of the current corporate development and the tensions surrounding the real prospect of sustainability - precisely between Great Amazon building a new vision of cultural, socioeconomic, environmental and political-institutional which begins to emerge and tends to swell in coming decades of the century.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) A Ameaça aos habitats: avaliação da cobertura e uso da terra na área do município de Tailândia (PA) pela monocultura da palma de óleo(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-10-01) FERNANDES, Bianca Moraes; RAVENA, Nírvia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0486445417640290One of the main catalysts for endangered species is habitat loss. Therefore, the assessment of land cover and use in the municipality of Tailândia, which is the largest producer of palm oil in the state of Pará, seeks to understand how monoculture can impact on the region's biomes and subsequently the habitats of endemic species. This understanding is based on the theoretical framework of ecological economics, the counter-discourse of sustainable development and Indigenous authors. To understand how biodiversity loss occurs, we use literature on mass extinctions and the Anthropocene. Finally, we seek to trace the path of palm oil to the Amazon, where its monoculture has affected the entire region socio-environmentally. The maps were produced with images from MapBiomas, which monitors different land uses in Brazil, with the Geographic Information System, using the free software QGIS (3.34), as well as data from the IBGE. Extinction is evaluated using the threat scale established by the IUCN, which together with ICMBio, and its SALVE system, SiBBr and GBIF, are used to assess which species occur in the Amazon biome area that are threatened with extinction and could be impacted by palm oil monoculture in the region. As a result, it is possible to observe that there is a large occurrence of species in the geographical area, and there are also records of endangered species that inhabit or pass through the area of the municipality of Tailândia (PA). The SALVE system has records of 223 endangered species that occur in the state of Pará. In SiBBr, there are records of 2,211 species occurring in the municipality of Tailândia. In GBIF, 1,362 occurrences of species were recorded in the municipality of Tailândia.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) A aquaponia: desafios e oportunidades para a produção de peixes e hortaliças no estado do Pará – Estudo de caso: projetos de aquaponia no município de Bragança-Pará(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2019-02-25) ARAÚJO, Cátia Sílvia Pereira de; MORAES, Sérgio Cardoso de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4568311568729454; FENZL, Norbert; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6834981018643186The present research about existing experiences of Aquaponics Systems in the State of Pará, municipality of Bragança. Among the main reasons for conducting the study was aim alternative paths to aquaculture activity in Brazil to meet the growing demand for healthy foods, mitigating the indiscriminate use of water resources and the lack of treatment and dumping inadequate effluent. In this sense, the aquaponic presents itself as an alternative to the integrated production of aquatic organisms (fish, crustaceans and algae) and vegetables with the benefit to save natural resources. The research aims General Aquaponics analysis, in the social and environmental context, from the studies and experiences that exist worldwide, national, as well as in the immediate region of Bragança, Pará State, with the purpose of drafting a guide for socialization and dissemination of aquapônica technology. Based on studies of the main bibliographic references on the aquaponic and the most important experiences of Aquaponics systems in the municipality of Bragança were analyzed by checking the theoretical and practical insights of those involved, and the potential and limitations of productive activity. For the preparation of the guide used the data provided in the bibliography, as well as those purchased on the spot. The results showed a bibliographic shortage issue in Brazil, mainly in respect of the economic viability of the activity, demonstrating clearly the necessity of deepening in the studies. The research showed that there is a strong tendency for membership of the local farmers to the aquapônico system of production, largely due to increasing income generation and low environmental impacts of this type of production.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) Avaliação da sustentabilidade do desenvolvimento do município de Altamira (PA) sob a ótica dos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (Agenda 2030) das Nações Unidas utilizando a ferramenta barômetro da sustentabilidade(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-02-26) QUINTELA, Patrick Diniz Alves; ARAGÓN VACA, Luis Eduardo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2713210031909963In recent decades, there have been more debates related to environmental damage that has been causing changes at a global level, according to the understanding of the finitude of natural resources. The Amazon figures as a protagonist when thinking about the protection of the global ecological heritage. Given its importance, the largest tropical forest in the world has been contemplated with several projections to preserve it. Altamira is a municipality in the center of the Legal Amazon and figures as a reflection of the main problems faced in this territory. Traditional populations coexist with agribusiness, and both are flooded by large projects, although one side benefits more. The rural and the urban areas also provide the municipality with a contrast that makes it especially difficult to point out or even define what would be sustainable. Despite the numerous conflicts that do not allow this territory to homogenize, this thesis sought to carry out a socio-environmental analysis based on the axes of human well-being and environmental well-being, of multidisciplinary nature, for the municipality of Altamira, based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) launched in 2015 by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and thus evaluate the main obstacles to the full sustainable development of the municipality. To obtain the results, the methodology used is called the Barometer of Sustainability (BS) and is the result of the major global conventions that debate the courses that take the social, economic, and environmental dimensions. The results obtained showed that Altamira has an intermediate level for sustainability and reflects the need for a special look of the government to the indicators related to the great socio-economic axis as well as the need for the elaboration of strategies to remedy and contain the problems related to the great environmental axis. It was then concluded that the municipality of Altamira is far from achieving the goals established by the 2030 agenda, but that it presents breath and has demonstrated subtle changes that are moving towards achieving such objectives. Finally, although limited, this thesis was intended to date a result and create a basis for future research that aims to analyze, add, or even refute results obtained for the municipality of Altamira.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) Biodiversidade da Amazônia e mercados locais(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2003-04-04) MONTEIRO, Raimunda; CASTRO, Edna Maria Ramos de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4702941668727146The study Amazonian Biodiversity and local Markets analyzes the tendencies of the diversified use of the Amazonian Biodiversity in the conceptual bases of development and sustainable production and the potentiality of the local markets as strategic ally. This research sustains that the Amazonian economy can profit from the tendencies of increase in value for natural products, but founded on the high value set on knowledge and involvement of the local population by strengthening the position of the region in its relationships with the national and global markets. A large number of products derived from Amazonian raw materials has been identified, as well as an expressive variety of industrial uses and a favorable, local, national and international atmosphere. There is a conclusive evidence that big enterprises still look upon the external market as their main target inasmuch as the local cooperation ties can still be deemed fragile. The consumers in the city of Belém indicate that the local market is receptive to new products, but it has its own characteristics that demand a renegotiation on the non-traditional trends and uses. And it is well known that the development of an economy system set on diversified bases demands the construction of productive and institutional links as well as adequate public policies, without which many of the emerging initiatives are likely to be unsuccessful.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) Caça e segurança alimentar em comunidades ribeirinhas do médio Xingu(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-01-30) SOUSA, Girlian Silva de; PEZZUTI, Juarez Carlos Brito; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3852277891994862Hunting is an extremely complex issue, due to the serious impact on the environment, but also because game meat is one of the main sources of animal protein for the traditional Amazonian people. This essay discusses subsistence hunting and the lack of access regarding river communities from the Reserva Extrativista do Rio Iriri to food security policies. It aims to discuss the socioeconomic contribution of subsistence hunting, and to bring evidences of the difficult situation in which these families live while trying to gain access to food products and public services in general. To achieve these goals, this paper embraces the theme from an economic and anthropological perspective, by using ethnographic resources to show evidences of the relations between man and environment, as well as the interaction between the economic sector and the other sectors in social life. For this discussion, the theoretical and methodological support from Maurice Godelier, Karl Polanyi, Pierre Bourdieu, Jorge Gasché Suess and Napoleón Vela Mendoza was used, as well as concepts of microeconomics.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) Certificações aplicadas a produtos da sociobiodiversidade na Amazônia: desafios para a sustentabilidade(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2023-10-25) SOUSA, Pollyanna Coêlho de; ALMEIDA, Oriana Trindade de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0325909843645279Certifications focused on sustainability are a series of practices that can help improve the quality of life of traditional populations in the Amazon, by providing advantages such as the use of sustainable agricultural production methods, increased productivity, reduced socioenvironmental impact, management forestry that helps conserve biodiversity and generate income. The general objective of the research was to analyze how sustainability certifications are being implemented with community organizations in the Amazon, using the cumaru almond and açaí fruit production chains as a case study. The hypothesis that motivated the research was the following: the implementation of sustainability certifications brings benefits to community organizations, which can result in a better quality of life for traditional populations in the Amazon, compared to those that do not adopt any standards. The results indicate that the benefits can be perceived in dimensions such as: Quality Management; Handler Management; Environmental management; Risk management. The use of certifications with community organizations is recommended, as long as other development models are equally recognized and respected, encouraging the promotion of inclusive and sustainable Amazon sociobiodiversity chains. It is noteworthy that it is possible that the benefits identified in community organizations that adopt some sustainability standard are related to other factors, linked to the historical and regional context, which may have resulted in more evident advances in some communities than in others.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) A Cogestão de recursos em reserva extrativista da Amazônia: o caso da Resex Terra Grande-Pracuúba, Pará, Brasil(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2022-11-24) MAGNO, Giselle Gomes; AZEVEDO-RAMOS, Claudia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1968630321407619The Extractive Reserves (Resex) of the Amazon represent a natural laboratory for studies of models of co-management of shared resources between the State (manager) and communities (residents). The premise of a shared management or co-management model starts from the construction of cooperation between individuals and/or institutions that use resources through participatory mechanisms and processes implemented to create support for the cooperation of groups that use resources (eg, territory, extractive area and natural resources). This study analyzes the adherence of the governance system of the Resex Terra Grande-Pracuúba, located on Ilha de Marajó, Pará, Brazil, to the principles considered necessary for the construction of an effective co-management for the governance of common use resources. In addition to identifying the relationship of forces between the State and the traditional population in the management of resources and in the use of the territory, mainly in decision-making and in conflict resolution, evaluating the arenas of concertation and their relationships. The study made it possible to identify, through documents and interviews, some principles that reached greater maturity in the implementation eg: Defined limits, Congruence between appropriation and provision rules and local conditions, Minimum recognition of organizational rights; Nested enterprises) and where improvement is needed (eg, Collective Choice Arrangements; Monitoring; Graduated Sanctions; Conflict Resolution Mechanisms). The hierarchical relationship between the decision-making arenas exist (local meetings would support the meetings by poles, which in turn would support the Management Board). However, they are still fragile in terms of their frequency, functioning and protagonism of communities and ICMBio in issues associated with co-management of the territory. The transgression of governance principles for the use of resources and territory can be illustrated both by the lack of fundamental management instruments for the administration of the RESEX, such as a Management Plan, which makes it difficult to organize economic and environmental actions on the use of resources within the Unit, but also (and mainly) due to the ineffectiveness of the co management instruments already implemented. The good participation of the actors indicates that there is interest in these spaces, however bureaucratic and unilateral interests can inhibit active participation. The analysis of the co-management of the Terra Grande-Pracuúba Extractive Reserve concludes that the governance system implemented was not effective in the shared management of the use of natural resources and territory. In addition, decision-making in collective arenas presented difficulties in applying the rules for the use of natural resources and territory for the pacification of conflicts, for the reproduction of the traditional way of life and for the support of cooperation between groups of users.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) Conservação, biodiversidade e bioeconomia: discursos neoliberais e a “Ecologia da Plantation” da soja na Amazônia(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2022-02-15) NUNES, Adriana; ACEVEDO MARIN, Rosa Elizabeth; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0087693866786684; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7509-3884This doctoral thesis studies and analyzes the power-knowledge relations and devices that have created in the Amazon an idea of dominant conservation, with a state character, based on the decarbonization of production processes, changes in land use, and the commoditization of the forest and its biodiversity and ecosystem services. In times of facing the bioclimatic crisis, and the Amazon itself is threatened with collapse, the most recent global political-scientific discourse advocates transformative changes in the relationship between society and nature, notably in the global economic model, capable of resolving the climate crisis, paralyzing the loss of planetary biodiversity and provide sustainable development, a Great Reset. The research object is, in turn, centered on public policies seen as transformative and, at the same time, conciliatory of development and forest conservation in a soybean frontier in the Amazon and at the same time considered a laboratory of public conservation policies, from which new notions and appropriations of global discourse emerge, such as “skills ecology”, “ecoefficiency”, “efficient landscape”, and more broadly, “forest restoration”, “carbon neutral”, “low-energy economy”. carbon”, “sustainable transition” and “Bioeconomy”. The main empiric of the research is the “Municipal Model of Development and Territorial Intelligence of Paragominas”, in the state of Pará, more specifically the conservation of Legal Reserve (RL) areas of private rural properties. The theoretical instrument of the thesis is interdisciplinary, combining knowledge from biological sciences and analytical studies of power and discourse in the human sciences. The methodological options bring together the overlapping of spatial scales, bibliographic and documentary analysis, semi-structured interviews, and mapping of power-knowledge relationships and devices put in place in the name of conservation, dynamic between the State, companies, institutions, NGOs, and other actors. It is argued in this thesis that a new global social order, which not only includes conservation, but holds within it the condition of possibility for maintaining neoliberal practices of domination of space and its resources, is underway. This new sense of conservation, socially produced, offers technical solutions to crises that arise from serious political problems such as inequality of access and use of natural resources, imposing knowledge that promotes market environmentalism, and does not act on real drivers. At the same time, they make invisible the practices of social agents, who through their ways of life ensure biological, social, cultural and economic diversity, becoming dominant over practices based on the common principle. We conclude that the Amazon has been the scene of an impostor conservation, based on “technosciences”, which uses the practice of abandoning other areas to regeneration to destroy the LR, converting the forest and its biodiversity into soybeans and other agricultural commodities; it expropriates and pulverizes local family farming communities and prioritizes actors and sectors associated with export commodities, in public development policies and confronting the bioclimatic crisis. The “ecology” present in the “aptitude maps”, “eco-efficient conservation” and transition/transformation of sustainable agriculture constitutes a “Plantation Ecology” of soy, which goes beyond the region, as it is organized and benefits power groups of instances, organizations and institutions in addition to the certified and traceable landscapes of Paragominas. The results of the five (5) chapters produced constitute an effort to show through which processes the practices that transmute deforestation, destruction of socio-biodiversity and concentration of monetary and non-monetary benefits, in power groups, into conservation discourses are organized.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) Consumo, sustentabilidade e origem: segmentação e estratégias para mercados locais de produtos da Amazônia(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-02-08) FERREIRA, Mariana Faro; AZEVEDO-RAMOS, Claudia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1968630321407619The Amazon is widely regarded as a realm of abundant possibilities within the context of the bioeconomy, owing to the vast size and diversity of its biocultural resources. However, scant attention has been paid to the consumption perspective concerning factors that could impact the development of local markets for products embodying the unique characteristics of the region. This research, grounded in the theoretical framework of marketing and consumer behavior studies, seeks to a) scrutinize elements linked to the concept of sustainable consumption and associated consumer behaviors; b) identify consumption patterns of the population of Belém city, Pará, Brazil; and c) propose market segmentation-based marketing strategies that contribute to the growth of local markets for Amazonian products. A literature review, employing Content Analysis (CA), revealed key elements of the sustainable consumption concept. These encompass the multidimensionality of the concept, encompassing social and environmental aspects alongside economic considerations; its robust association with the notion of Sustainable Development, thereby affording it a broad scope easily embraced as discourse by diverse sectors, yet posing challenges in guiding production and consumption practices. To guide practices, we consider that operational definitions must include: a) emphasis on multiple dimensions (social, environmental and economic), b) scope of product and processes, c) inclusion of production and consumption impacts and e) indication of the levels of action considered (whether individual, collective or public/governmental). Findings from a survey involving a probabilistic sample of the population in Belém (PA) indicated that consumers in the capital prioritize functionalities, fragrance, price, and ingredients as their primary criteria when selecting shampoos. Concerning origin, both generally and specifically in local production within the Amazon, this was not deemed a significant attribute by any of the demographic profiles in the studied population. Strategies for Amazon-based businesses were subsequently proposed based on the discussed results, encompassing all four levels of the marketing mix (product, place, promotion, and price). These strategies incorporate elements for differentiation based on origin, capitalizing on the region's unique features for product development, and acknowledging the idiosyncrasies of three distinct segments of Pará state consumers. In summary, a focus is suggested on: a) the development of products oriented to local demand; b) differentiation by origin; c) increased availability; and d) positioning by quality. In a scenario of growing interest in the bioeconomy, the development of marketing strategies aimed at the sustainable consumption of products originating in the Amazon will still face broad concepts and lack of knowledge about the behavior of local consumers, difficulties that can be overcome by focusing on product attributes, greater information about consumption and economic and cultural valorization of its socio-biodiversity.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) Corpo, ambiente e aprendizagem: etnografia sensorial sobre o mundo da vida cotidiana em comunidade camponesas amazônicas(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2020-06-26) ALVES, Vitória Mendes; CASTRO, Fábio Fonseca de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5700042332015787This is an interdisciplinary research that discusses the connection between body, environment and ways of technical apprenticeship with the socio-environmental indicators (COSTA, FERNANDES 2016) of amazonian agroextrative peasantry. The field work was carried out in the region of the islands of Mocajuba, specifically in the locality of São Joaquim, lower Tocantins region, state of Pará. Using sensory etnography (PINK, 2009) as the method and assuming a phenomenological approach, we take as a starting point the lifeworld (SCHUTZ, 1970) and daily life of peasant communities. Experiences such as shrimp fishing, cocoa extractivism and preparing fish for consumption are described in order to demonstrate the link between techniques of the body and the environment in which they inhabit. Thus, we conclude that a) these techniques are not transmited, but taught and learned by a complex sensorial engagement with the environment (LAVE, 2015) and b) the entanglement body-environment (INGOLD, 2015) is central to peasant daily life, which implies interpreting it while overcoming the dualisms of culture/nature and production/reproduction. These connections partially explain the socio-environmental virtuosity expressed in the data.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) O Desempenho das diretrizes socioeconômicas e ambientais nas compras governamentais das Instituições Federais de Ensino Superior do estado do Pará(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2023-05-11) SILVA, Jayme Nascimento; SANTANA, Antônio Cordeiro de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2532279040491194; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4324-9178Sustainable Public Procurement must follow sustainability criteria in the acquisition of goods and services by Federal Public Administration bodies, being an important tool to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. The adoption of these criteria is intended to encourage good Circular Economy practices as a requirement for environmental sustainability, especially in public organizations. The Federal Institutions of Higher Education (IFES) play a key role in the development of research and practical actions, especially to contribute to Sustainable Development. The theoretical foundation is related to the concepts that lead to the understanding of environmental issues through the economic sciences, especially based on the perception of the law of thermodynamics and the dynamics of natural ecosystems, and their influence on the Sustainable Public Procurement policy. The general objective of the thesis is to analyze the behavior of government purchases of Federal Institutions of Higher Education in the state of Pará in relation to socioeconomic and environmental guidelines, as well as to build a sustainable purchase indicator to identify and qualify the performance level of IFES in Pará. The methodology covers the application of quantitative methods to analyze the set of data referring to the purchases of the IFES in the period from 2010 to 2021 and, for this, the extraction of data from the biddings was used for the application of a survey aligned with the revision of the literature and application of Exploratory Factor Analysis and identify the factors of biosocioeconomic benefits of purchases; knowledge of legislation; procurement chain governance. The research demonstrates that, despite the set of incentives in Brazilian legislation aligned with international agreements to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the applicability of the legislation had a restricted scope due to the low availability of sustainable goods and the limited participation of public servants in this process, whose engagement is fundamental for the success of the Sustainable Public Procurement policy.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) Desenvolvimento local e turismo sustentável no setor público do município de Cedral-MA(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-12-12) SILVA, Marceli de Cassia Alencar dos Santos; SIMONIAN, Lígia Terezinha Lopes; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6620574987436911; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6690-7244This dissertation investigates the intersection between sustainable development and tourism in the context of the municipality of Cedral, located in the Floresta dos Guarás Tourist Complex in Maranhão. The work is based on the premise that tourism can be a tool for local development, as long as it is implemented in a sustainable way and integrated with the needs of the community. The research adopts an interdisciplinary approach, using qualitative methodologies and the case-study model. The choice of Cedral as the study site is justified by its location in an emerging tourist hub, where public sector actions are still in the initial stages. The methodology includes data collection through field research, carried out between January 3 and 8 and September 6 and 8, 2023, which allowed the recognition and participant observation of local conditions. In the theoretical framework, the dissertation addresses concepts from Geography, emphasizing the categories of region and place, as well as discusses the General Theory of Tourism and the evolution of the concept of sustainability. It highlights the contradictions between socio-environmental development and effective practices, proposing that tourism should be less degrading and more consistent with the local environment. The research also reflects on the importance of planning that involves local communities, managers and socio-cultural representatives, with a view to building a tourism model that respects the specific characteristics of the region. The research aims to analyze the current situation of tourism in the municipality of Cedral, the actions of the public tourism sector and the engagement of socio-cultural representations, with sections dedicated to the theoretical basis, the methodologies and research techniques used, the study area, addressing its physical and social elements, and the panorama of the municipality's public tourism sector, analyzing the administrative organization and activities developed since the creation of the tourism secretariat. The study's contribution is significant, as it offers a critical reflection on the role of tourism in local development and suggests new possibilities for promoting sustainable tourism practices that respect the environment. It highlights the need for creative and participatory processes, involving all social actors, to guarantee the autonomy of local society and the viability of tourism that benefits the community. In short, this work offers theoretical and practical contributions to the understanding of sustainable tourism in the Amazon context.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) Desmatamento em territórios tradicionalmente ocupados: disputas, conflitos e significados do reflorestamento e da restauração florestal no Bico do Papagaio Tocantinense(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2023-11-16) BESSA, Mayara Suellen Costa; GONÇALVES, Marcela Vecchione; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9274854854102856Traditional communities and Indigenous Peoples living in transition areas between the Amazon and Cerrado biomes are suffering pressure from the spread of forestry monocultures over their territories. The present work aims to understand the perception of indigenous people from Aldeia Cocalinho, in the Apinayé Indigenous Land, in Tocantins, and the Community of Quebradeiras de Coco Babaçu Sete Barracas, also in Tocantins, about reforestation activities based on projects developed in the region do Bico do Papagaio (TO), in the municipalities of São Bento do Tocantins and São Miguel, respectively by the companies Suzano and Nobleinvest. The research proposes to observe the reforestation projects of forestry companies in perspective of the traditional agricultural practices of these two communities, in order to highlight the contradictions of the corporate reforestation model, predominant in the Bico do Papagaio region. The approach of this research is qualitative, with ethnography and semistructured interviews. The thesis defended is that the forestry companies Suzano and Nobleinvest caused and still cause accumulation through spoliation, especially through deforestation in areas appropriated or acquired for eucalyptus and teak monocultures. As part of the consolidation of these companies over collective territories, there is a justification for carrying out reforestation activities, which create a new mechanism for expropriation of ways and means of life in Aldeia Cocalinho and the Sete Barracas Community.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) Dos grandes objetos aos objetos de grandeza cidadã: interiorização do ensino superior público e ordenamento cívico-territorial na Amazônia paraense(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2025-04-08) OLIVEIRA, Helbert Michel Pampolha de; TRINDADE JUNIOR, Saint-Clair Cordeiro da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1762041788112837Considering the ongoing tensions and intentions of territorial planning in the Amazon as an object of study, this thesis argues that the processes of expansion and internalization of public higher education have contributed, albeit not without contradictions, to an expansion of the a “geographization of citizenship” in the state of Pará, providing important foundations that envision the outline of a civic-territorial ordering in this space. To this end, the research aimed to analyze the contours of this ordering as a possibility in light of the aforementioned processes of public higher education and the corresponding response to the demands of forest peoples for this level of education in the Pará Amazon. The research was based on the assumptions of dialectical thought and, through a quali-quantitative approach, employed techniques such as literature review, documentary collection and analysis, content analysis, systematic field observation, and semi-structured interviews. Based on the qualitative selection of three public higher education institutions – Federal University of Pará, Federal University of Western Pará, and Federal University of Southern and Southeastern Pará – and the analysis of their regular undergraduate course offerings in the Pará space, it demonstrates both the creation/reinforcement of urban centralities of a socio-territorial nature, given the presence and role of these social fixtures in cities in the region, and the strengthening of organic solidarities and spatial horizontalities, especially through the provision of certain higher education programs, such as those aimed at addressing the demands of forest peoples for this level of education. On the other hand, it shows that these institutions also respond to the onslaught of capitalist interests in the region by offering degrees that instrumentalize major economic activities, which are largely responsible for the historical configuration of an economic-corporate territorial ordering. Even as spaces of contention, it can be concluded that public higher education institutions can be recognized as important social fixtures that support the “geographization of citizenship” and, therefore, they can be understood as objects of civic grandeur, whose spatialization helps envision the construction of a civic-territorial ordering as a possibility in the Pará Amazon.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) A Ecologia política dos povos tradicionais na Corte Interamericana de Direitos Humanos: estudo de caso da sentença do Povo Saramaka vs Suriname(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2023-06-28) CASTRO, Raylson Max da Silva; CAÑETE, Thales Maximiliano Ravena; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6291249974166783Slowly and implicitly, the political ecology of traditional peoples is a theme that has been gaining relevance and notoriety in international forums, specifically and especially in the InterAmerican Court of Human Rights (CorteIDH – acronyum brazilian portuguese). As a PanAmazonian example, and using the political ecology of Bruno Latour (2004) as a theoretical framework, the Saramaka vs. Suriname case will be the main analysis of this dissertation work and the recognition by the IAHR Court of the Saramaka peoples' right to collective property over the land and it’s natural resources in their ancestral territory in the face of socioenvironmental degradation economic activities. The methodology followed a qualitative approach, with the type of basic research and with a descriptive research character, carrying out in the first moment the bibliographical research and in a second moment aiming at the realization of bibliographical surveys in the CAPES (acronyum brazilian portuguese) periodicals portal, besides using the documental research and the case study of official documents from the Organization of American States and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. The objective was to explore the approaches adopted by the Court and how the protection of the rights of traditional peoples, including the right to consultation and to free, prior, and informed consent of the Saramaka people, was or was not achieved through Political Ecology. We conclude that the Court's decision in the Saramaka case is an important milestone in the protection of traditional peoples' rights in the Pan-Amazon region and highlights the importance of the political ecology approach in understanding and protecting these rights, where political ecology helps to understand and (re)make a socio-environmental reading about the realities of traditional peoples and their organic interrelationship with the land and it’s natural resources.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) Educação ambiental para a sustentabilidade da Amazônia Atlantica: desafios da Reserva Extrativista Marinha Araí-Peroba(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-10-24) SILVA, Elba Renata Picanço da; SILVA, Marilena Loureiro da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7261982145077537This dissertation seeks to problematize discussions about Environmental Education, seen as a fundamental tool for raising awareness and social participation in tackling the contemporary socio-environmental crisis. In this scenario, it is based on the understanding that schools have the social role of making a decisive contribution to promoting a better quality of life in the community, through educational practices aimed at sustainability. The aim of this research was to analyze the Environmental Education practices developed at the Emiliano Picanço da Costa Municipal Elementary and Secondary School, located in the Araí-Peroba Marine Extractive Reserve, in the municipality of Augusto Corrêa, Pará. This is an applied study with a qualitative approach, of a descriptive and exploratory nature, whose literature review was carried out through bibliographical and documentary research, and whose research strategy was the case study of the Emiliano Picanço da Costa Municipal Elementary and Secondary School. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with management, teachers, pedagogical coordinators and students, using non-probabilistic sampling, as well as direct observations, recorded in a field diary. The information was organized and categorized using content analysis. The results showed that the school faces several challenges in integrating environmental education into its pedagogical practices. The current approach is considered insufficient, as is ongoing training in Environmental Education, which hinders the implementation of more targeted and contextualized pedagogical practices at the school. The lack of institutional support and sporadic actions are also pointed out as obstacles, limiting the impact of educational actions. The conclusion is that, in order to overcome these barriers, coordinated initiatives must be taken to strengthen teacher training and promote greater integration between the curriculum of the Emiliano Picanço da Costa School and the socio-environmental reality of the Araí-Peroba RESEX.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) Educação e extensão rurais para a agricultura familiar através do Programa “Campo - Saberes da Terra" no município de Bragança: agroecologia e sustentabilidade para o desenvolvimento rural e de jovens do campo(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2012-11-05) QUEIROZ, Jardel Costa; HURTIENNE, Thomas Peter; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7133222063843073This thesis comprises a case study of the experiences of the government implemented “Campo – Saberes da Terra” in the municipality of Bragança, located in the northeastern state of Pará. The transition from an anti-regionalist conception to a perspective centered on national developmentalism marks a crucial turning point in this period. The central aim is to comprehend the processes and circumstances that gave rise to this shift by analyzing the ontologies of development in the formation of the Brazilian republican State. Composed of two chapters, the study explores the ontologies of the ideas of Brazil, the State, and development, seeking to foster dialogue rather than provide definitive answers, thereby encouraging multidisciplinary reflection on political and economic thought. In the first chapter, titled "Ontologies of the State and the Idea of Development," the philosophical roots of ontology are examined alongside the phenomenological context and variables that influenced the construction of thought models responsible for reflections on the "being" of the State and its crucial role in shaping the ideas of development. The second chapter, "Ontologies of Brazilian Political and Social Thought," presents an overview of different perspectives on Brazil as a managing State and productive space. By discussing developmentalism in the Brazilian context, the study explores the emergence of the concept and the influence of economic and social debates preceding the 1950s, a period when the economic school of thought and developmentalism were consolidated. This work introduces ontological analysis into the understanding of development, emphasizing the hermeneutic and interpretative approach adopted to examine the sources that contributed to the social construction of the concept of development and its state-driven practice.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) Fronteiras invisíveis de gênero: impactos da dominação masculina em viagens solo de brasileiras(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-11-13) AIRES, Jamyle Cristine Abreu; CASTRO, Edna Maria Ramos de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4702941668727146Tourism plays a central role in social life, facilitating cultural exchanges and generating social, cultural, and political impacts. This study investigates masculine domination in the solo travel experiences of Brazilian women in Europe, with an emphasis on the gender dynamics that shape their perceptions of agency, freedom, and safety. The increase in female participation in solo tourism reflects socioeconomic changes that have provided women with greater autonomy; however, challenges still persist, such as the sexualization of their bodies and experiences of harassment, which affect their perceptions of freedom and safety. Using a qualitative approach grounded in critical theory, the research aims to understand how gender dynamics influence these women's experiences during solo travel. The methodology involved a literature review, data collection through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, and a critical data analysis, allowing for the identification of complex power relations that shape travel experiences. The results indicate that, by revealing their nationality, Brazilian women often face stereotypes of hypersexualization and submissiveness, leading to situations of discrimination and harassment. However, these experiences also challenge patriarchal norms, enhancing the women’s perceptions of autonomy, freedom, and self-esteem, and highlight their resistance to gender domination in the tourism context. Based on the findings, the research proposes guidelines for institutional strategies that could contribute to the reinterpretation of gender power relations in the context of solo female travel.
