Regulação emocional e metas de socialização de crianças ribeirinhas de 3 a 5 anos: percepção paterna e materna

Abstract

The present study investigated the relationships between child emotion regulation and parental socialization goals in the context of traditional Amazonian populations. This research is justified by the need to understand socio-emotional development in riverine communities, whose specificities diverge from the urban patterns dominant in literature. The study compared the perceptions of riverine fathers and mothers regarding their children's emotion regulation (aged 3 to 5 years) and investigated the influence of socialization goals on these perceptions. The sample consisted of 38 nuclear families (43 children) living on islands in Belém/PA. The Emotion Regulation Checklist (ERC) and the Socialization Goals Scale (MES) were used. The results indicated general agreement between caregivers, with no significant differences in the general scores of parental perception of their children's emotion regulation (t=0.150; p=0.4408) and parental socialization goals (t=0.310; p=0.3791). However, specific analyses revealed that fathers perceive greater happiness in their children (t=1.951; p=0.0289) and prioritize obedience to elders significantly more than mothers (t=2.383; p=0.0109). Regression analysis showed that obedience is the main predictor of emotion regulation for fathers (b=0.1772; p=0.003). For mothers, the perception of regulation is influenced by both the encouragement of independence (b=-0.0959; p=0.0237) and paternal expectations of obedience (b=0.2417; p=0.0194). It is concluded that socio-emotional development in this context reflects an autonomous-relational model, where perceptions are shaped by gender roles and a dynamic of parental complementarity.
