Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Percepção visual da cidade: iconografias da natureza urbana de Belém (1808 – 1908)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-01-07) PEREIRA, Rosa Claudia Cerqueira; KOSSOY, Boris; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0725242773358250; SARGES, Maria de Nazaré dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2076421409418420This study proposes an analysis of urban iconography of Belém, produced during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The thesis aims to analyze the representation of nature in Belém, specifically in the years 1808 to 1908. The initial commitment of the thesis concentrated on researching the various types of iconography of Belém during the nineteenth century. The questions that sought to highlight deal on how travelers seized the city in his visit to Belém, both from a narrative point of view as the visual until the year 1890. From then also identify how governments have promoted the city beyond the Amazon region. Brazilian nature It is observed that came to be represented, from the nineteenth century, through written and iconographic, that thanks to the influence of scientism and romantic artistic sensibility that permeated the knowledge of the country. The romantic sensibility made the relationship between science and esthetic to apprehend and represent nature in an overall view, inaugurating a new conception of landscape and trying to "invent" and view an urbane nature, which is the main theme of this study; is the phenomenon of urbanization, which was registere, especially by means of photography. In this type of photos, nature appears domesticated, adapted to urban design, its artful and geometric shape is valued. Urban photography from the late nineteenth century reintroduces the "ideal beauty" in the nature of the images ordered on the model of French gardens, English and Italian From assumption that contemplation of nature is adapted to the reality of the Amazon region, although they were present models from Europe. The perception of nature in the Amazon the second half of the nineteenth century, the influence of new ways of conceiving the nature were designed to cities in the redesign of spaces to form the green area, especially in Belém.. The documentary basis of this research consists of sources of the nineteenth century published in the journal of the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, as well as newspapers of the twentieth century. From science, marajoara symbolism started to be used in art, architecture, clothing, public and private spaces. In handicrafts, the redefinition of the material culture is recurring until nowadays. We conclude that, from mere pieces found in archaeological sites, marajoara ceramic was coated of ennobled values, being spectacularized as an emblem of the Brazilian national identity.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Barão de Marajó: um intelectual e político entre a Amazônia e a Europa (1855-1906)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-11-16) COELHO, Anna Carolina de Abreu; SARGES, Maria de Nazaré dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2076421409418420José Coelho da Gama e Abreu, the Baron of the Marajó, graduated in philosophy at the University of Coimbra, became respectable in the Portuguese intellectual circle, even his biographies were published in the press. The purpose is to discuss the strong relationship between the ultramontane and romanizing cultural policy that was managed by the Roman Curia, and which was ultimately destined to propagate itself through the whole world in response to the secularization of society. If Catholicism observes the model centered on the eternal city, the decoration of the ecclesiastical buildings is inspired in its most famous temples. In the second half of the century XIX, Rome plays the role of the world capital of Christianity and the sacred arts. Inspired by the ambitious iconographic program of Pope Pius X, the bishop would adopt the sacred themes defined by him. The message was clear. Purify worship and the arts would be part of the broader reform process of the clergy, and Catholic culture throughout the world. Faced with the loss of influence in society due to secularization movements, the Roman Curia made a great effort to keep intact its role as the sole moral and religious authority. The effect of this policy was the placement of Church and State in opposing camps. In Brasil, the ultramontane clergy often faced against civil and secular authorities. Through this all, the Belém Cathedral presented a decorative cycle connected with the romanizing project of Dom Macedo Costa. As a result, Amazonia closened its ties with Italian culture, updating the regional art scene in fruitiful dialogue with the international aesthetic movements. A renewed art was produced- this is true- but it was in the service of Romanized religion.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Usos da fronteira: terras, contrabando e relações sociais no Turiaçu (Pará - Maranhão, 1790-1852)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-01-18) SOUZA, Sueny Diana Oliveira de; RICCI, Magda Maria de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4368326880097299This thesis discusses the occupation of the border between Pará and Maranhão from 1790 to 1852. More specifically analyzes the meetings and clashes between colonizers and the various residents around there were or who arrived in the region in the period. To be detached, the firstly, the onslaughts of portuguese colonial government in order to make the region colonized by people "useful" to the royal interests. In the process, opened up roads, lifted up towns and villagesa, besides donate land by date letter of allotment for cattle and agriculture production. However, parallel to the abundance and potential riches of the earth, always came to search for the required "control" over local populations. This process "colonizer" win force from Francisco de Souza Coutinho administration in Pará, but also received, in this time, a lot of guys not "desired". Were new villagers and transferred indigenous, black africans, and many poor whites and mestizos men, some being banished, other military servers and more fugitives. This place - enormous ethnic and cultural diversity center - became a melting pot of gunpowder into two big uprisings: the first in 1824, in the context of the independence struggles and the other in 1835, with the Cabanagem. The approach of this thesis ends in early 1850, not because the people no more went up, but because finally the dispute of imperial administration decides to spend the region to Maranhão protection and dispute focuses gained new contours and dimensions that would extrapolate this investigation.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Vanguardismos e modernidades: cenas teatrais em Belém do Pará (1941-1968)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-03-03) BEZERRA, José Denis de Oliveira; AMORIM, Ana Karine Jansen de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5875820201443540; COSTA, Antonio Maurício Dias da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2563255308649361This thesis aims at the analysis of the theatrical cultural practices in Belém do Pará, state of Pará, Brazil, from 1941 to 1968, by considering amateur and student´s theatre ideologies and movement, whose fundamental project was the transformation of local theatre practices. The materials for this research were collected in private and public institutions archives and in Brazilian scholars´ bibiographical production. From these materials, we have investigated how performances (“poetic products”) have created a dialogue with the sociopolitical environment in Brazil and in Pará during those years. Artists and intelectuals aesthetic principles in this cultural movement revealed important modernizing and avant garde actions and perceptions on culture and art. On account of that the production proposed by the groups Teatro do Estudante do Pará (1941-1951), the Norte Teatro Escola do Pará (1957-1962) and the Serviço de Teatro at the University of Pará (1962-1967) have confronted others theatre forms – specially the ones related to commercial and popular theatre practices – that represented what we define as a tradition. In the final analysis we conclude that cultural production have been articulated and grounded under erudition principals proposed by those traditional groups during three decades in Pará´s 20th century theater. The government arts funding, formal art education and arts renewing potency, among other reasons, have motivated the “avant garde artists” to think and to make theatre as an important artistic and intelectual mobilization field in Para´s society.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A natureza nos planos de desenvolvimento da Amazônia (1955 -1985)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-03-11) BATISTA , Iane Maria da Silva; MOURÃO, Leila; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5665064793338456This thesis aims to analyze how Amazon nature was conceived and appropriated in the Amazon development plans elaborated to be implemented between 1955 and 1985. Historical processes and their implementation were delineated, emphasizing their social and environmental dimensions. The research document base was formed by the development plans, reports, government acts and statements, magazines and newspapers, legislations, cartographic images, besides the literature related to the theme. The analyses were based on the theoretical and methodological principles of Environmental History. The evidences produced revealed that water, soil, forests and subsoil acquired new meanings in statements and actions envisaged in state planning. This process reflected a conception of Amazon nature as a source of natural resources for maintenance and expansion of the adopted development model that did not take into consideration the region historical dimension. It was observed during the interpretation of a theoretical and methodological matrix in the wording of the plans that indicate continuity among them. The measures of environmental content, incorporated in the elaboration of the plans in the 1970s, resulted from pressures from multilateral financial institutions, to guarantee financial resources to ongoing projects. At the same time, some initiatives formed in defense of the Amazon by: intellectuals, social movements, religious institutions, peasants, rubber tappers and Indigenous people with distinctive interests, relocated the discussion on nature. The understanding of the historical dimension that guided the conceptions of nature in the various analyzed processes enable the emergence of a more diverse and richer social history of the Amazon.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Entre batalhas e papéis: a cabanagem e a imprensa brasileira na menoridade (1835-1840)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-03-28) LIMA, Luciano Demetrius Barbosa; RICCI, Magda Maria de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4368326880097299Between battles and printed papers: the Cabanagem and the Brazilian periodicals during the Minority period (1835-1840) proposes a methodological redefining the historical and historiographical construction of the cabanos’s war. Returning to the analysis of some Brazilian periodicals at the first half of the nineteenth century, specifically between the years 1835 and 1840, I argue that the cabanos’s narrative history should be expanded beyond the crafts, proclamations and correspondence between cabanas e anti-cabanas authorities. In this study, the research was done in a rich and diverse list of editorials, articles and notes periodistics printed during the Minority period. They are outside and inside of periodicals of the former Grão-Pará, overturning the myth that – because there was no periodic regularly circulating during cabano‘s episode (1835-1839) – would hardly have to research these News organizations. I also intend to demonstrate, through the analysis of two newspapers of Rio de Janeiro: Correio Official, The Sete d’Abril, and the paraense periodical Treze de Maio (this was born immediately after cabano’s episode in 1840), that the cabano’s narrative war had a national circulation and that such disclosure contributed greatly to the creation of a memory-historical of this Amazonian movement in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) O plano de urbanização de Belém: cidade e urbanismo na década de 1940(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-04-05) CHAVES, Túlio Augusto Pinho de Vasconcelos; RICCI, Magda Maria de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4368326880097299This thesis combines a significant Belém’s Urbanisation Plan –developed in the 1940’s by the urban planner and mayor Jeronimo Cavalcanti with social, political and economic struggles of an era of many changes in the Amazon, in Brazil and in the Western world. The Plan was elaborated during the Second World War, at the time of the Washington Agreements and during the Estado Novo. Suddenly, the Amazon began to occupy a central place in the Vargas policy, bringing a kind of a nostalgia for the golden age of rubber as well as a kind of a impression that the new moment was very specific and different. There was a French pattern and after that there was a North American standard; there were trams, zeppelin buses, rails, asphalt, Italian pallazi, skyscrapers. Everything was related to modernization, but everything seemed very different: the models had become. The urban planner who has accepted that challenge was known in circles of engineering and architecture in Rio de Janeiro; however, he was inept in the political field. His plan provided the complete restructuring of the city, ranging from the modernization of the supply industry and markets, to profound changes in public services, transport and roads. However, Cavalcanti and his ideas did not resist the simplest political crisis. Despite the short time as a mayor and his precarious political tact, his plan left roots and worth to be remembered especially because it occurred in a historic moment of construction and affirmation of Urbanism as a scientific field of power in Brazil and, especially, in the Amazon. His ideas were often referenced and, in important moments, developed, even if people did not agree with them. However, its early history was still unclear. This thesis based on many sources, but especially in newspapers and period reports discusses the old and new debates between Belle Époque’s Belém and the new Belém created by the urban planner Cavalcanti.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Relações conjugais e amorosas em Vigia, Pará: códigos, crime e poder (1890-1945)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-04-12) NASCIMENTO, José Renato Carneiro do; CANCELA, Cristina Donza; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8393402118322730The processes crimes of injuries and deflowerings are our main sources for understanding how men and women handled codes and marital and loving representations in their everyday practices between the years 1890-1945 in the city of Vigia / PA. We seek to understand how they updated the speeches of these practices related to affections in terms of negotiation and violence. We speak of appropriations and uses of representations and codes of farmers, agricultural women, housewives, fishermen, lawyers, delegates 'artists' and writers of newspapers who lived in the municipality. In this sense, we defend the thesis that, beyond dichotomies, we understand the narratives around relationships placing images of male and female social practices considered legitimate and illicit activated in police and judicial environment to deal with their experiences in daily life. Among the houses, fields, streams, backyards and city streets, the protagonists of these stories had multiple discourses, plots and maneuvers around issues such as masculinity, femininity, love, marriage, dating, honor, intimacy and housing. The various voices and situations would not come to light without us to do analysis and comparisons within and outside of each criminal case in order to reach routes between the micro and macro analysis. Newspapers enabled us to hear the official speeches and the Church about the female and male; government messages given in the wake of legal and economic aspects of the city; the population data taken from the census and civil and parish records of marriage allowed a trend of viewing relationships as age and affiliation. Vigia did not have an upgrade or steep urban transformation that might decisively influence the behavior changes and relationships, ways of survival and the homes, but not so have the men and the women of this city given up living and expressing feelings experienced by residents of large cities considered places of spreading “good and bad” habits.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) "Football suburbano e festivais esportivos": lazer e sociabilidade nos clubes de subúrbio em Belém do Pará (1920-1952)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-04-29) GAUDÊNCIO, Itamar Rogério Pereira; COSTA, Antonio Maurício Dias da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2563255308649361This study deals with the analysis of the practice and popularization of football from the suburb of clubs in the city of Belém do Pará, during the years 1920 to 1952. Thus, we map the metropolis from these football clubs in their various neighborhoods in order to analyze the dynamics of sports who built a process of popularization of football. A fact that has its foundations by the amount of football clubs and the experience of individuals who actively participated in the construction of leisure and sports activities in this urban space. The increase in the number of festivals along with the work of the sports press, circulation of various social groups, has provided over the years to build a football popularization process in the city strengthened the sport around the Clube do Remo and Paysandu . However, to raise journalistic sources, I managed to realize that despite the speeches are inherent in the practice of those who write in the newspapers, there was a point in common, which was the practice of football in various places of the city. There were indications that subjects of popular neighborhoods like Jurunas, Sacramenta, Quarry and Telegraph participated even indirectly matches held in the Largo de Sao Braz or Praca Batista Campos. The idea of the thesis involves the study of football that became popular from a set of factors that was also combined with experience of subjects in the clubs of the districts presented by the press during the historical context of the time, as popular or suburban, not only the double Re x Pa.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) De chegadas e partidas: migrações portuguesas no Pará (1800-1850)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-05-04) GUIMARÃES, Luiz Antonio Valente; VIEIRA JÚNIOR, Antonio Otaviano; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6764908679902300This thesis discusses the Portuguese migration to the captaincy and then province of Pará, between 1800 and 1850. In this period marked by political ruptures - with the Independence of Brazil from Portugal and Pará Accession to the new country -, the emergence of a markedly antilusitanian movement and shades of extreme rivalry acquired through Cabanagem, we concern ourselves with the Lusitanian migration dynamics in Pará. Making use of privileged documents, which are the passport records issued in Portugal to the city of Belém do Pará, we proposed first to quantify the migration occurring between these two spaces in the investigated period. In a second moment of research, we proceed to establish a dialogue between serial and microanalysis history: of the 1339 individuals who immigrated to Pará, we follow the life paths of some of those immigrants from Portugal to Pará. Commercial business, family arrangements and strategies of economic and social integration are among other topics discussed throughout this thesis.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Lugar de joias, memórias e histórias: o Polo Joalheiro de Belém e personagens no tempo presente(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-08-02) QUINTELA, Rosangela da Silva; CANCELA, Cristina Donza; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8393402118322730It is a walk through the history of the Amazon, to present a record of the history and memory of the Polo Jeweler / São José Liberto, located in Belem, interlaced way with the trajectories of some of its protagonists, to scrutinize a kaleidoscope of the world of work experiences in a context of creation and production of handmade jewelry. In this sense, I follow the methodological and theoretical paths, especially, Edward Thompson, Walter Benjamin, Paul Ricoeur, Jacques Le Goff and Michel de Certeau, with the intention to set up an academic flight that the theory does not impose the object, but that dialoguing hermeneutically with "traces" the "footprints" that gathered for the research of my PhD, in which the attention was on the relationship between history, memory, remembering and forgetting, against the backdrop of the challenges of micro-history, , oral history and history of this. Used for both oral and written sources. The main objective was to analyze the discourses and practices in its multiplicity in the scenario Polo Jeweler and their social segments.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) “Confuso e intrincado labirinto”: fronteira, território e poder na Ilha Grande de Joanes (séculos XVII e XVIII)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-08-15) DIAS, Joel Santos; CHAMBOULEYRON, Rafael Ivan; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7906172621582952Marajó island or ilha Grande de Joanes had important role in the process of colonization of the Amazon. Its geographical position was considered strategic to ensure the safety and the supply of land located on the northern border, in addition to contributing directly and indirectly in the expansion of the border with the Spanish limits. Similarly, prominent role in the provision of genres and cattle to supply neighbouring areas, in particular, the State capital. The labor quota available was significant and removed for a long time the needs of the residents of the Crown itself, due to intense missionary activity developed with the Indians of that archipelago. In the period, the ancient villages Pombaline became towns and the indigenous peoples who lived there have been inserted in a new working relationship directed to ensure the continuity of its role. The reaserch revealed that, contrary to popular belief, the regional food that is known today as typical is the result of crossbreeding occurred over time. Moreover, the forms of consumption of indigenous groups have undergone numerous changes and mixes the ingredients and preparation methods. Thus, this thesis demonstrates how such hybrids have also occurred in addition to the regional dishes. Thus, the thesis investigates the paraense kitchen late nineteenth and mid-twentieth century, showing how was the result of numerous food exchanges. Aiming at the establishment of our arguments we made a context of selling space products and food in the city of Belém, through various establishments and individuals who circulated the paraense capital. We follow with a discussion of how the recipes and prescriptions of books published in the city were influences of cuisines and European books, identifying such reality from the recipes and ingredients. Finally, the discussion about how the paraense food is miscegenation and how the menus found in the city at this point in the show eating habits full of miscegenation in a city that has not made use of its dishes as handle their culture.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Os espectadores: história, sociabilidade e cinema em Belém do Pará na década de 1950(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-09-15) CARNEIRO, Eva Dayna Felix; FIGUEIREDO, Aldrin Moura de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4671233730699231The sociabilities constituted by the meetings promoted by the film club, the long conversations dealing about film criticism or reference books, the living in newspapers and magazines editorial offices favored the experience of common defining moments, with potential to produce meanings, indelibly printed on their behavior and perceptions about art and life. The coexistence resulted in contact with a number of references and own models of film analysis, that will produce effects in the written production of those who shared this cinephile ritual. “Os Espectadores” dialogued with what was read and discussed in associations with similar characteristics in different regions of the country. A cinematic generation mostly derived from academy, which also was located historically. In a moment that they lived full profusion of Brazilian cinefilia, important subjects such as the existence of a national cinema, as well as concerns about a look education, editing and Italian neorealism, also aroused the interest of North fime club members. In the meantime, the newspapers disseminated through news and reports on violence, fashion, drug advertisements and alcoholism the various male performances that circulated in Caxias. The male representations were thus constructed, understood and classified between ideal and disorder in view of their practices. To discuss such questions I have worked with such categories as gender and masculinities and popular masculinities of the popular segments as a way to understand through the press the composition of representations of the behaviors of men who were exalted and those who should becurbed in the bosom of relationships marked by social class and color.
