Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Sinais de morte ou de vitalidade? Mudanças estruturais na Língua Tembé: contribuição ao estudo dos efeitos de contato lingüístico na Amazônia oriental(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2001-12-07) CARVALHO, Márcia Goretti Pereira de; CABRAL, Ana Suelly Arruda Câmara; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9247668950073325This dissertation seeks to present an analysis of linguistic data from the Tembé language (Tupí-Guaraní family), in order to establish a preliminary discussion of the present state of the language’s vitality. The analysis takes, as its base, theoretical and methodological orientations from studies on obsolescent languages by DORIAN (1973, 1977, 1980) and CAMPBELL & MUNTZEL (1989), the theoretical model of language death proposed by SASSE (1992), and also more general principles of language contact theory and theoretical and methodological approaches proposed by THOMASON (2001) (for issues more closely related to linguistic changes in endangered languages). The results of the study, at hand, reveal that the various changes which have already taken place in Tembé, and those which are currently in progress, have transformed it into a more analytical language with simpler syntactic patterns than the most conservative languages in the Tupí-Guaraní family. However, this study also clearly shows that, despite these changes, Tembé continues to display signs of great vitality, and now depends on adequate policies stimulating native language use.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Para o desenvolvimento de uma competência interacional no ensino-aprendizagem de Língua materna no sistema escolar(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2004-06-18) SILVA, Ruth Helena Barros da; CUNHA, José Carlos Chaves da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3117544056791050Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Línguas em contato no Oiapoque: as comunidades indígenas karipuna(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2005) GUEDES, Waldenise Maria Martins; RAZKY, Abdelhak; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8153913927369006This research is addressed to the analysis of the situation sociolinguistics of five villages in Reservation Uaçá in the municipal district of Oiapoque: Espírito Santo, Taminã, Cutiti. This work emphasizes the metaphor which makes the title of the book and the critical emancipation process verified in his main character being semantically closed. The dialectical stages of this work are: anti-thesis and synthesis which are verified in the main character, Alfredo, in his process of self-realization. These stages are processed in a continuous chain: ideological illusion, deception about Urbs and self-realization on his new way opposed to Urbs.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A transitividade em textos da propaganda política eleitoral gratuita televisionada: uma abordagem funcional(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2005-03-23) DUARTE, Raimunda Dias; MACÊDO, Célia Maria Macêdo de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6785761329285276This study analyses fifty speeches produced for television during Horário Político Eleitoral Gratuito (HPEG) of the elections of 2002 in the state of Pará. The theoretical background lays on the Systemic-Functional Grammar of Halliday (1994) and the study about the Communicative Style of the HPEG of Albuquerque (1999). The research investigates the lexico-grammatical choices made in the transitivity system to uncover how the speaker´s world experiences are construed in the texts produced. It also investigates how the kinds of messages of the Communicative Style of the HPEG are expressed in the texts. The results show that Material and Relational processes are the two main processes most used by politicians. These choices are used as persuasive strategies as they express what the candidate has done and/or will do in case he is elected. They also tell the community that the candidate has the qualities and abilities desired in a politician.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Dona Cecé: um feminino singular, em passagem dos inocentes, Dalcídio Jurandir(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2005-05-23) SANTOS, Neilci do Socorro Coelho dos; FURTADO, Marli Tereza; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2382303554607592Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A contribuição da linguística textual e da teoria da relevância para o processo de inferenciação em textos publicitários(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2005-06-04) NASCIMENTO, Rosana Carmen Pinto do; FERREIRA, Marília de Nazaré de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4291543797221091This work presents a descriptive analysis based in a corpus constituted by 50 publicity texts, which main objective is to verify how cognitives strategies are processed, since they are crucial to the textual understanding and also to the meaning elaboration, here in narrow sense named inference. As communicative human activities come from ways which are intregatives and unseparated: the emissor, the text and receptor, this work tries to establish the role of each one of those elements plays to inference, based in the theoretical frames of two Linguistics branches: 1) Textual Linguistics which takes the text in detail to enfatize what cognitive activities are used, as inference; 2)Pragmatics, which comes along to Textual Linguistics, with special attention to the Relevance: Communication and cognition of Sperber and Wilson (1986), searching for relevant considerations about the way the information is represented in the mind as well how it is inferencially processed.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A presença inglesa no Brasil e sua influência nas obras de escritores brasileiros do século XIX(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2005-08-31) PEREIRA, Rosamaria Reo; SALES, Germana Maria Araújo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8723885160615840This thesis has the main objective to investigate the presence of the English writers on the works of the Brazilian writers of the XIX century. The English novelists who were important at that time were Daniel Defoe, Samuel Richardson and Henry Fielding. They contributed to the rising and consolidation of the novel as a literary genre. In Brasil, the novel developed itself with a greater freedom and attracted the public reader. The new public started to read the novels which re-created the cities, the streets and the lives of the people who were emerging from a social class called: bourgeoisie. The new genre which appears in England increased business, with the proliferation of magazines and newspapers of popular and literary topics. The Brazilian writers such as José de Alencar and Machado de Assis were influenced by these English writers; however, this influence was not only reflected on the novels of those writers, but also on business, on culture and on the social life in Brazil. Some narratives, written by José de Alencar, show in a subtle way, the British influence, their habits and customs over the economic, political and cultural life of Brazil of the XIX century. Some other examples of this presence are reveled on the works of Machado de Assis through quotations, references and allusions. Machado de Assis in his novels does some references to English writers either from the XVI and XVIII century or from the XIX century, such as Shakespeare, Swift, Fielding, Sterne, Lamb and Dickens, among other English writers.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Identidade e história: Belém do Grão-Pará como narrativa da nacionalidade(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2005-10-05) FIGUEIREDO, Elielson de Souza; FURTADO, Marli Tereza; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2382303554607592This work admits the allegory concept presented by Fredric Jameson as Possibility for reading speech of the history through Brazilian poetic speech, especially the Dalcidio Jurandirs novel, Belém do Grão-Pará. The beginning of the twentieth century is read through circumstances lived by the protagonist Alfredo, starting from his move from Cachoeira do Arari to Belém. Using the Marxist dialectic premises, little by little we analyzed the meaning of anthropophagi as sort of decisive political attitude to rupture with the idea of Brazilian culture submission front to the external cultures, specifically Europes. The new dimension given to the European vanguard in cultural and esthetic Brazilian means, as well the intellectual argument between the revolutionary sections of the national art and the academic eighteenth century tradition, were essentials to the statement of a very peculiar place to Brazilian literature in Latin-American and global context, especially. Alfredo's migration, central character in the play, from country-side to the city although he finds out a Belém ruined because of the economical climax of rubber exploitation, its read, allegorically as kind of crossing between the cosmopolitan way of national elites and the cultural roots which popular sections of the country-side are linked. Instruments of this historical debate between the elites and the people, were in the movies and newspapers, also mentioned by the novel. In a glance on post-modernity and the appearance of global society, under the tutelage of cultural industry, It insists on the possibility of a Brazilian national identity despite of strong differences among areas, social classes and ethnic.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Literatura e história na recepção crítica do conto de Inglês de Sousa(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2005-10-25) ARAÚJO, José Mourão de; HOLANDA, Sílvio Augusto de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0928175455054278Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A compreensão e a produção oral nas aulas de FLE: os jogos teatrais como meio de comunicação(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2005-12-05) FERREIRA, Josiane da Silva; CUNHA, José Carlos Chaves da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3117544056791050Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Verbo de fogo: uma leitura da história, do imaginário amazônico e do social em Romanceiro da Cabanagem(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2005-12-22) GARCIA, Joaquim Alfredo Guimarães; HOLANDA, Sílvio Augusto de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0928175455054278The Cabanagem, a popular revolution with deep politic, historical and social implications in Para, has unfolded in fights starred by the rebels and the soldiers of the Empire, from 1835 to 1840. These aspects are non-lexical utterances that function as full speech acts in the intersubjective communicative interaction. In respect these non-verbal details, Campbell (2002a, 2002b, 2003, 2004), Maekawa (2004), Fujie et al. (2004), Hoult (2004), Key (1958) apud Steimberg (1988) argue they contribute to expressive speech. In accord to these authors, it‟s the paralanguage phenomenon that signalizes information about speaker‟s attitude, opinions and emotions. In this way, we investigate, in this work, the common paralinguistic utterances in informal conversation in order to demonstrate its expressive function in speech signal. We identified 450 paralinguistic utterances in samples of natural speech of the Paraense Regional Portuguese and submitted them to a phonetic analysis. The analysis showed us that fundamental frequency and duration have strong effects in conveying paralinguistic phenomena in speech. Besides, we also identified another common property of the paralinguistic tokens: the syllabification. After analysis process, we described the usage and function of these non-lexical utterances and its contribution to the expressive speech. The results indicate that paralinguistic tokens signalize recognition, comprehension and attention, manage interpersonal relations and express emotion, attitude, and affect.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) O efeito da instrução de estratégias de aprendizagem no desenvolvimento da produção oral de alunos de inglês da Universidade Federal do Pará: um estudo de caso(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006-08-18) GAIGNOUX, Kelly Cristina Marques; SILVA, Walkyria Alydia Grahl Passos Magno e; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6129530461830312It investigates the effect of the learning strategy instruction to the development of the speaking skill with a group from third level learners of English from Curso de Letras at the Federal University of Pará. This investigation aims at contributing to a better understanding of the issues involved in learning difficulties related to learners speaking performance in using a foreign language by suggesting that the explicit instruction of strategies can provide more effective learning. Hence, it offers teachers a new perspective from which to view these issues in the classroom. This study was carried out within the learning strategies framework which is based on cognitive theory of learning and development.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Linguagem e identidade: a construção discursiva das identidades sociais em interações com menores infratores(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006-08-25) SILVA, Denilson de Souza; TOSCANO, Maria Eulália Sobral; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7725724776869425This paper analyses the discourse construction of social identities in three interactions with ?juvenile offenders? in a semi-liberty juvenile detention unit. The goal of this investigation is to correlate language and identities. For this purpose, the paper first studies the ideas about the individual and his/her identification with different social centers in a modern and plural society. It also stresses the influence of institutions on the identity formation, especially the influence of institutions that deal with ?juvenile offenders? and the influence of the Children?s and adolescents? Statute. This way, the stigma, socially built, is related to the contingencies which the minors face in the verbal interactions. Hence, theory approaches that consider language in its social context such as the Interactional Sociolinguistics and the Utterance approaches are used, as well as other knowledge areas like the Cultural Studies and Social Psychology. This is an interpretative and ethnographic research that analyses the social identity construction through different footings and frames in discourse and explores the adolescents? speech in its relation with the speeches present in the unity where they are and in society. Therefore, employees and people who visit the mentioned place were interviewed, as well as observation notes about the participants? social situation were taken. The dissertation observes the most relevant emergent identities in the minors? speech such as the stigmatized identity, the religious one, the family ones and the ?identity of transformation?, always built in the necessary relation with the ?other?. The analysis reveals the conflict between the delinquent identity and the identities socially considered as ?normal?. This fact shows the complexity of social identities and makes new questions about the subject come up for future researches.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Os componentes visuais no ensino-aprendizagem da leitura em inglês: um estudo dos aspectos semiótico-discursivos em manuais de informática, no contexto do ensino superior(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006-08-25) FERNANDES, Edwiges Conceição de Souza; SILVA, Walkyria Alydia Grahl Passos Magno e; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6129530461830312The purpose of this stucty was to reflect upon the teaching of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), focusing on reading, as well as to help readers with the construction of meaning through the use of visual components. Having our theoretical basis centered mainly on Swales (1990): Soares (1993): Bronckart (1999); Joly (2002); Santaella (1983, 2000); Magno e Silva (2002, 2004); and Field (2004), we carried out a descriptive study of the semiotic-discursive features of computer users manuals, focused on the use of images. Therefore, data was collected and pedagogical proceclures were described based on the observations taken in a group of undergraduate ESP students of the Computer Networks Course at Faculdade de Tecnologica da Amazônia (FAZ) a technological college in Belém. Our action-research also aimed at investigating to what extent the non-verbal elements can influence readers in their reading choices; how these elements can be used to lead readers to meaning durring all the phases of lhe reading process (pre/ while / post reading); and the importance of the visual components in the reading of softwares manuals. The data analysis results have shown that the visual components are excellent tools, when associated with words and used appropriately. Such procedures can incentive and ease the reading processing, especiailly in contexts in which lhe participants are not proficient enough in lhe target language.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Leitura e gêneros textuais em livros didáticos de língua inglesa do Ensino Médio(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006-08-25) ARAÚJO, Marcus de Souza; SILVA, Walkyria Alydia Grahl Passos Magno e; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6129530461830312This study is aimed at analyzing the question of written comprehension activities from the perspective of the approach of genre on English textbooks on High School level. Therefore, it intends to discuss the ways in which reading activities work genre in a communicative way. For this, we examine genres, the types of activities and types of written comprehension questions present in two textbooks. Futhermore, it is focused on investigating to what extent the reading strategies have been worked, explicit or implicitly, as a tool that facilitates the construction of meanings from the texts. The research methodology underlying this study was based on a focused description (Larsen-Freeman & Long, 1991) that selected two textbooks in a single volume. These English books were published in 2004 and used in private schools in Belem. This research was based on the theoretical framework of genre (Bakhtin [1952-53] 2003; Swales, 1990, 1992 and 1998; Marcuschi, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005; Ramos, 2004 and others); on the teaching of English reading (Dias, 2002 , 2005; Grabe & Stoller, 2001, 2002; Koda, 2005 among others) and on the use of the English textbooks (Day & Park, 2005; Garinger, 2001; Souza, 1999 and others). In addition, this study has its basis on the National Curriculum Parameters for the teaching of reading in a foreign language on High School level (PCNEM-LE, 2000, 2002, 2004). It is also verified that textbooks do not favor the activities in a communicative way for the construction of meaning in written comprehension, and besides the textbooks do not take genres as teaching tools. This construction is conjured by translation (or copy) of information of the text. The data analysis results still show the implicit use of reading strategies, without an awareness that favors the search of more critical and significant ways to help student?s learning. These results have pedagogical implications especially because it urges the opening for new spaces in the Brazilian educational scenario. This way, the use of these textbooks can be redefined and reflected in the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language.
