However, to choose a ES as a teaching resource it is essential to endorse the methodology used by the teacher, once it needs to be pedagogically and functionally appropriate to meet the needs and objectives present in the classroom. Also, it is necessary to use mechanisms that the ES endorses to verify its adequacy to the professor’s objectives. Currently, it is verified that there are various techniques and methodologies available in the literature for ES assessment, but there is still no solution for decision making and selection of a ES that fully addresses the profiles of users and their different needs to be met by certain methodological application, or that arises from demand originating from the development of solutions based on demand and with a low capacity for generalization in terms of practical application. In this way, solutions are available without standardization and that several times do not take into consideration criteria relating to quality, measurement scales and verification procedures of the ES. This heterogeneity makes the evaluation of an ES very difficult, since the subjectivity in the selection of ES evaluation methodology can produce inconclusive results. Given this context, this work created a quality model that considers 24 ES assessment methodologies available in the literature and aims to automate the selection of ES assessment methodology based on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, reducing the possibility of subjectivity in the screening process. During the investigation we used Natural Language Processing (NLP), Random Forest, k-Nearest Neighbors and Artificiais Neurais Networks. In all research scenarios, the natural language algorithm was combined with other algorithms, offering a solution based on the application of hybrid and loosely coupled AI algorithms, with excellent results. In this way, simulations were carried out considering NLP+Random Forest, NLP+k-Nearest Neighbors and NLP+Artificial Neurais Networks. After the simulations, the results indicate that it is possible to determine the best ES assessment methodology using AI algorithms, with the best results obtained with the combination of NLP+Random Forest.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Aplicação de estratégias de gamificação personalizadas no ensino de algoritmos e programação em curso introdutório de computação(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2025-04-16) DINIZ, Patrícia Pinto; PORTELA, Carlos dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7707594869367480; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7327-9960This dissertation, structured as a collection of academic articles, investigates the use of personalized gamification strategies in programming education, focusing on pedagogical alignment with students’ motivational profiles and learning styles. The work comprises three interdependent articles that complement each other in addressing how to personalize the teaching of algorithms and programming to foster greater engagement, motivation, and academic performance The first article, titled “Personalized Gamification Strategies in Programming Education: A Systematic Literature Review”, published in the proceedings of SBIE 2024, presents a systematic review of 45 studies published between 2019 and 2023. Its aim was to identify the effects of competitive, cooperative, and hybrid gamification elements in programming education. The results revealed important patterns regarding the impact of these strategies on student engagement and highlighted gaps related to personalization and the use of adaptive feedback, providing a theoretical foundation for the subsequent applied studies. The second article, “Personalized Gamification in Programming Education: An Experience Report with Adaptive Feedback”, awarded at EDUCOMP 2025, reports on the application of a pedagogical methodology based on the HEXAD model (motivational profiles) and the GRSLSS model (learning styles). The approach was implemented in a technical computing class, where students were categorized into specific profiles and received gamified activities tailored to their characteristics. The experience revealed increased engagement, greater autonomy, and more active participation in the proposed tasks. The third article, “Applying Personalized Gamification Strategies in Teaching Algorithms and Programming in an Introductory Computing Course”, represents the final stage of the project and was presented to the dissertation committee. It describes the application of two main activities: the first focused on programming logic (Animal Duel), and the second on Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), developed based on the adaptive feedback collected in the previous phase. The personalization of tasks and the use of individualized feedback led to significant improvements in academic performance, content comprehension, and student motivation Overall, the three articles demonstrate that personalized gamification, combined with adaptive feedback, is an effective and replicable strategy to make programming education more inclusive and student-centered. This dissertation contributes to the field of Computer Science Education by providing empirical evidence and pedagogical practices that can be applied in diverse educational contexts. This article describes the results obtained in an action research on the applicability of a serious game with virtual reality in the teaching and learning process of fractions content for students with ADHD. Among the possible applications of NLP and AI is the automatic classification of documents, which, among other things, can be employed in the automation of the digitization process of Judicial Proceedings that are still in physical form. Therefore, this work applies and compares AI algorithms for the classification of legal documents. The algorithms are divided into two different approaches. The first approach (I) separates the computational representation process of the text from the classifier training itself and applies SVM and Logistic Regression in conjunction with computational representations based on TF-IDF, Word2Vec, FastText, and BERT. The second approach (II) simultaneously performs the computational representation of documents and the training of the classifier, applying Deep Learning algorithms based on recurrent neural networks, specifically ULMFiT (Universal Language Model Fine-tuning), and HAN (Hierarchical Attention Networks). The studied dataset is named VICTOR, composed of documents from the Supreme Federal Court (STF) of Brazil. The research concludes that both approaches can be applied to the classification of legal documents from the employed dataset. Additionally, despite being less computationally expensive, the classification pipelines of Approach I, which use the computational representation of the document with TF-IDF, yield results equivalent to pipelines employing Deep Learning. Furthermore, embedding documents specialization with data from the dataset under study, improves the performance of pipelines that employ Word2Vec, FastText and ULMFiT, compared to pipelines that apply the generic representations of these, i.e., models pre-trained with data from the general context.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Aprendizado em conjunto aplicado à classificação da imagética motora(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2025-01-20) JORGE, Vitor da Silva; SILVA, Cleison Daniel; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1445401605385329; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8280-2928Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) AutoBCI: interface cérebro-máquina com configuração hiperparamétrica automatizada(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2021-03-11) VILAS BOAS, Vitor Mendes; TEIXEIRA, Otávio Noura; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5784356232477760; SILVA, Cleison Daniel; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1445401605385329; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8280-2928Motor Imagery-based Brain-Computer Interfaces (MI-BCI) allow control of devices without the use of peripheral nerves and muscles, based on voluntary modulation of brain electrophysiological activity. The challenge imposed on the typical non-invasive MI-BCI is to extract patterns that describe the motor intention in signals collected by electroencephalography (EEG) and classify them to generate reliable commands to the application. For that, the selection of suitable processing techniques as well as the correct parameterization of the system are fundamental in the adjustment of effective classification models. The configuration of multiple hyperparameters in the processing chain, commonly performed manually and unspecified by the user, tends to generate rigid models that are unable to generalize well in different individuals, especially due to the high variability of MI patterns observed among them. The use of strategies to estimate these hyperparameters according to the subject’s specificities is presented as a more effective approach and has been explored in recent studies. This work proposes a structure based on Bayesian learning incorporated into a new open source MI-BCI computational platform for automatic configuration of hyperparameters. The system integrates all the basic steps of the ICM-IM subband architecture, from the acquisition to the control of a virtual application. Various processing techniques make up a large configuration space to search for particular hyperparametric instances that maximize system performance and draw the user the manual adjustment task. Data from 72 subjects in three public EEG sets were used in offline and online simulations, whose goal was to validate the operation of the implemented modules and to investigate the effects of the automatic configuration on the classification performance and on the effective control of the application. A significant improvement in the accuracy of classification was observed when using automatic configuration based models of the system compared to models generated from frequent configurations in the literature. The results suggest that the optimization of hyperparameters produces more assertive models in the classification of IM patterns of different users and tends to contribute to a more effective control of the application. It is concluded that this study contributes to the design of ICM-IM more effective in recognizing the user’s particular IM patterns by providing a complete experimental environment, customizable and uncomplicated to use by automated configuration. The option for more efficient techniques in signal processing also proved to be viable and are also considered contributions of this work.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Avaliação do impacto de ambientes gamificados no processo de ensino-aprendizagem da lógica de programação de computadores: uma comparação entre elementos monousuário e multiusuários(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2019) RIBEIRO, Fabrício de Sousa; FÜLBER, Heleno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5018616409948511; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208In Technology courses that have in their curriculum matrix disciplines related to software development (such as Fundamentals of Programming), students have learning difficulties in the development of algorithms. Consequently, a methodology that is beyond the traditional teaching-learning methods is necessary, as students need different strategies that can increase their engagement. In this sense, the use of gamification techniques is a promising alternative to the positive results of their application in various areas, including education. In this scenario, digital games stand out. These can be classified into single and multiuser games. Given the above, this paper aims to compare the impact of the use of gamified environments in the teaching-learning process of computer programming logic between single-user and multi-user context. The study procedures were divided into three moments: systematic literature review, preparation of the experimental environment and performance of the experiments. The selected environment corresponds to the Code Combat game, with a modified version to integrate the multiuser features. The experiments were carried out with 38 students from a technical course integrated with high school. The data suggest an increased engagement of students who made use of the gamified environment that uses multiuser resources, but statistically, no significant learning differences were identified between the use of both types of resources.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Bengala inteligente: um modelo para apoio à navegação de deficientes visuais baseado em reconhecimento de cores.(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2019-05-28) BARBOSA, Luiz Carlos de Souza; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208This work presents the project to develop a navigation support system for the visually impaired, based on the proposal to use a cane with electronic devices and a mobile device, aiming to help the visually impaired to find sectors and to move autonomously in a environment mapped. Mapping takes place through the implantation of bands with different colors at strategic points, where each color group identifies the sector in which it is implanted. Once mapped, it will be possible to navigate the nvironment with the support of the cane equipped with an RGB sensor for color collection, a vibration motor for tactile feedback, and a microcontroller with Wi-Fi module to connect to the mobile device. According to the respective set of colors captured by the sensor, the user receives information corresponding to a location, route or object by voice. To verify the applicability, two maps were implanted, one in internal and one external environment. Functional evaluations were performed with the support of a group of volunteers who made the route using the device. As results, qualitative data were presented of the system functionalities, collected during the experiments, through observation of the behavior of the system and application of questionnaires to the users.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Clusterização de padrões espaço-temporais de precipitação na Amazônia via deep convolutional autoencoder(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2023-07-07) SILVA, Vander Augusto Oliveira da; TEIXEIRA, Raphael Barros; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4902824086591521; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2993-802XStudies using different machine learning methods for knowledge discovery and pattern recognition in precipitation time series are increasingly frequent in the literature. Identify and analyze patterns in precipitation time series in a particular region is fundamental for its socioeconomic development. Therefore, it can be stated that knowledge and understanding of the rainfall characteristics of the regions are important to enable the planning of the use, management and conservation of water resources. The natural phenomenon of precipitation is a fundamental process with a direct impact on watersheds and on human and environmental development. The variability of this phenomenon has important implications for the navigability of rivers, individual abundance and species richness. In recent years, many studies with this approach have been carried out in Brazil, mainly in the Amazon region. This research aimed to develop a computational method for analyzing time series of precipitation using machine learning techniques with unsupervised learning, in order to propose an method capable of extracting complex features from the data, obtaining a map of attributes at low dimensionality for pattern recognition, discovery of homogeneous regions with respect to precipitation and approximate reconstruction of precipitation time series in the Legal Amazon. The proposed deep learning neural network model is trained to learn the main and most complex features of the original data and present them in low dimensionality in latent space. After the training, the results are promising, the observations of the reconstructed data showed a good performance as evaluated by the RMSE and NRMSE metric with resulting values equal to 0.06610 and 0.3355 respectively. The analysis of the representation of the data in low dimension was applied and analyzed by a clustering structure using hierarchical agglomerative with Ward’s method. This methodology also showed good results, as it carried out consistent groupings characterizing ho- mogeneous regions in relation to precipitation data. Thus, demonstrating that the representation in low dimensionality carried the main characteristics of the time series of the analyzed data. It is noteworthy that the method developed in this study can be applied not only in the Amazon region, but also in other areas with similar challenges related to time series analysis.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A comunicabilidade da interação do usuário idoso com o aplicativo WhatsApp(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2021-10-25) OLIVEIRA, Regina Mares de Souza; FÜLBER, Heleno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5018616409948511; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7327-9960The advances in digital technologies and the widespread use of smartphones have greatly changed the way people communicate, mainly through social platforms. Its application supports the execution of complex and laborious activities, as well as promotes new studies and challenges for the field to assist the farmer's decision making. The County of Tucuruí, in the State of Pará Brazil, is part of a region that concentrates a great amount of rural properties characterized by being of family agriculture. The objective of this work is to present an exploratory study for applying steps of Digital Image Processing (DIP) and Computational Vision (CV) in images captured by a UAV to obtain the quantification of cassava seedlings and, consequently, harvest of this crop in a farm of the county. The scientific contribution of this study corresponds to the results obtained from the application of 4 vegetation indices: ExG, ExR, (ExG-ExR) and MaxG. The MaxG index presented the best result, counting 91% of the seedlings, in the best case, with an accuracy of 70%. The ExR index was more appropriate for counting the seedlings in initial stages of germination. The index (ExG-ExR) allowed the estimation with unsupervised thresholding, which improves the development of CV systems for this purpose. The ExG index surprised us with the lowest performance for the studied context, counting 58% of the seedlings, in the worst case, with accuracy of 73%. As practical contributions to the farmer, this study made it possible to raise awareness of the importance of forecasting the harvest to better plan the negotiation of production, later plantings and the search for resources to increase the mechanized area of the crop. Further indepth research needs to be conducted to confirm these findings.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Experiência na implementação de um modelo de gestão de PD&I em um grupo de empresas paraenses com o uso de ferramentas digitais e práticas ágeis(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-08-05) OLIVEIRA, Aline Santos de; COSTA, Anderson Jorge Serra da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7707885586024191; REIS, Rodrigo Quites; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9839778710074372; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3657-4175This dissertation explores the implementation of a Innovation management model in a group of companies of the Pará state in Brazil, using digital tools and agile practices. The objective of the research is to evaluate the effectiveness of these approaches in improving innovation processes, an essential factor for the economic growth and competitiveness of organizations. The study focused on the application of a methodology compatible with the Brazilian RD&I Management Model (MGPDI, in Portuguese) in three companies selected through a open competition ruled by a Science and Technology Park. The methodology for this research included a systematic literature review, case study, interviews with investors and project leaders, as well as a qualitative analysis of the data collected. The results reveal that the adoption of digital tools such as Trello, Jira, Ocomon and Taiga, combined with agile practices, provides benefits such as greater adaptability, better collaboration, greater transparency and reduced operational costs. However, it should be noted that the implementation of this management model brings challenges, such as organizational resistance to change and the need for continuous training of teams. Therefore, it must be assumed that the integration of digital tools and agile practices in RD&I management can considerably improve companies' innovation capacity, fostering an organizational culture of adaptability and resilience. Thus, the recommendations generated by this research made it possible to prepare an executive summary, describing how the implementation of the MGPDI contributes to sustainability and competitiveness in the business context of the Pará state.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Fatores críticos para a implantação de melhorias de serviço de TI: um estudo em instituições públicas de ensino superior(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2020-12-14) MENEZES, Gilberto Fabricio Malheiros; SANTOS, Viviane Almeida dos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1489376127395764; REIS, Rodrigo Quites; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9839778710074372; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3657-4175This research was dedicated to the Information Technology Services Management (GSTI) area, more specifically in the study of the factors that influence the process of implementing improvements in IT service processes, in view of the growth in the service management area. based on Information Technology (IT). Today, associations are required to continually seek to improve IT services, in order to provide them with quality, and to meet internal and external needs. From the above, the objectives of this study are: 1) basic diagnoses of success (FCS) and resistance (FCR) are crucial for the implementation of IT service improvements; 2) identify the degree of promotion of FCS and FCR within public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs); 3) define strategies for overcoming and / or enhancing the FCS and FCR. In order to achieve these objectives, a three-step survey was developed. The first sought, through a systematic mapping of the literature, aimed to identify which are these FCS and FCR. As a result, 41 FCS and 13 FCR were identified. In the second stage, surveys were carried out with 110 IT professionals from 24 public HEIs in the state of Pará and from the Cooperation Network with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). The results reaffirm a cause of the factors: support from senior management (FCS1); alignment between IT and business (FCS9); well-defined processes (FCS2); lack of technical resources and support (FCR2); lack of knowledge and skills (FCR3). The third stage collected data through classification with 11 managers and former IT managers of public HEIs in the North of Brazil to establish which actions can be developed or improved to face the factors. All the discoveries made by the author resulted in the writing of three scientific papers. The results, in short, point to a common perception within the public HEIs about the importance of the studied factors and that coping is possible by a number of strategies: awareness senior management through the exposure of benefits; carrying out training and qualification activities; cultivation of healthy interpersonal relationshipss; process mapping; resource management; use of specific tools; implementation of management techniques.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Ferramenta baseada em cuckoo filter para remoção de redundância em dados de sequenciadores de segunda geração (NGS - next generation sequencing)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2019-12-02) GAIA, Antonio Sérgio Cruz; VERAS, Adonney Allan de Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2201652617167877; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7227-0590The second-generation sequencing platforms, also known as NGS – Next Generation Sequencing, produce a great amount of data, which demands high complexity and computational cost in the processing of these data. These platforms generate duplicated reads that come from the preparation of the genomic library and are included in the amplification stage by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction). This redundancy can increase the computational requirements and processing time of subsequent analyses (for instance, de novo assembly). To reduce the computational cost of theses analyses, it is necessary to remove these reads from the data set of the sequenced organism. In this work, we present the NGSReadsTreatment, a computational tool to remove duplicated reads in paired-end or single-end data sets. The input for NGSReadsTreatment consists of reads from any sequencing platform with same or different read lengths. Its engine uses a Cuckoo Filter probabilistic structure to identify and remove redundant readings. The identification is done by comparing the reads among themselves, this way, not any pre-requisite is necessary besides the reads set. The validation of the tool was carried out by using a set of real and simulated data. To assess the efficiency of the tool, it was compared to other tools of redundancy removal. The results indicate the efficiency of the NGSReadsTreatment, for it produced the best outcome, both in the number of redundancies removed and the use of memory, in all tests done. Developed in JAVA, the NGSReadsTreatment is compatible with UNIX/Linux and Windows operating systems and has a version with a graphic interface to facilitate its use.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) GAIN: um guia para avaliação da interface de aplicativos para atividades físicas(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2023-01-19) FERREIRA, Josué Viana; SANTOS, Viviane Almeida dos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1489376127395764; PORTELA, Carlos dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7707594869367480During the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, several personal trainers recommended fitness mobile applications to their students so that they could perform physical activities at home.
