This dissertation, structured as a collection of academic articles, investigates the use of personalized gamification strategies in programming education, focusing on pedagogical alignment with students’ motivational profiles and learning styles. The work comprises three interdependent articles that complement each other in addressing how to personalize the teaching of algorithms and programming to foster greater engagement, motivation, and academic performance The first article, titled “Personalized Gamification Strategies in Programming Education: A Systematic Literature Review”, published in the proceedings of SBIE 2024, presents a systematic review of 45 studies published between 2019 and 2023. Its aim was to identify the effects of competitive, cooperative, and hybrid gamification elements in programming education. The results revealed important patterns regarding the impact of these strategies on student engagement and highlighted gaps related to personalization and the use of adaptive feedback, providing a theoretical foundation for the subsequent applied studies. The second article, “Personalized Gamification in Programming Education: An Experience Report with Adaptive Feedback”, awarded at EDUCOMP 2025, reports on the application of a pedagogical methodology based on the HEXAD model (motivational profiles) and the GRSLSS model (learning styles). The approach was implemented in a technical computing class, where students were categorized into specific profiles and received gamified activities tailored to their characteristics. The experience revealed increased engagement, greater autonomy, and more active participation in the proposed tasks. The third article, “Applying Personalized Gamification Strategies in Teaching Algorithms and Programming in an Introductory Computing Course”, represents the final stage of the project and was presented to the dissertation committee. It describes the application of two main activities: the first focused on programming logic (Animal Duel), and the second on Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), developed based on the adaptive feedback collected in the previous phase. The personalization of tasks and the use of individualized feedback led to significant improvements in academic performance, content comprehension, and student motivation Overall, the three articles demonstrate that personalized gamification, combined with adaptive feedback, is an effective and replicable strategy to make programming education more inclusive and student-centered. This dissertation contributes to the field of Computer Science Education by providing empirical evidence and pedagogical practices that can be applied in diverse educational contexts.

This research developed and validated a digital educational resource (RED) aimed at the continuing education of basic education teachers in computational thinking (CT), with the main objective of improving pedagogical practices on this topic and contributing to the systematization of its paradigms, as established by the guidelines of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). The literature review included relevant productions on teacher training in CT, with emphasis on works found in the Mendeley, CAPES and Google Scholar databases, in addition to publications presented at the CBIE, SBIE and WIE events. These studies highlighted the need for training actions and accessible resources that help teachers understand and apply CT. The methodology adopted was descriptive and qualitative-quantitative in nature, anchored in the Design Thinking strategy, applied in five stages: empathy, definition, ideation, prototyping and testing. Data collection and analysis were carried out through three questionnaires distributed at different stages of the research, using the Google Forms platform. The first questionnaire assessed teachers’ prior knowledge of PC, revealing conceptual and practical gaps. The second questionnaire was applied during a face-to-face workshop and showed the demand for a digital resource on the subject, resulting in the design of the RED prototype called PC_Edu. The third questionnaire aimed to validate the design of the resource, allowing the assessment of its applicability and acceptance in the educational context. The usability analysis of PC_Edu was performed based on the System Usability Scale (SUS) method, recognized for its effectiveness in measuring user experience. The results demonstrated good acceptance by teachers, confirming the relevance of the resource for training and pedagogical purposes. It is concluded that PC_Edu has significant potential to contribute to the continuing education of teachers and to the qualified insertion of Computational Thinking in pedagogical practices in basic education. DNA sequencing technologies have provided significant advances in the understanding of the genetic content of numerous organisms, ranging from microorganisms to humans. Among the analyses performed in the Omics Sciences, Annotation stands out as one of the most important. Conceptually, this process consists of inferring biological information from genomic sequences, which allows researchers to understand the function of genetic products, such as Genes — the Basic Units of Heredity responsible for the physical and hereditary characteristics of an organism. Some Genes perform vital functions by encoding Proteins or RNAs essential for processes such as Cellular Metabolism, which participate in crucial pathways like Glycolysis and the Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle. Sequencing Platforms have started to generate large volumes of data, which has driven advances in the Omics fields and fostered the development of computational methods aimed at diverse analyses. More recently, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques have been applied to these data, with studies demonstrating the effectiveness of biology-inspired approaches. These models do not require rule-based programming, although their creation still demands advanced skills in Programming and Computing. To contribute toward solving this challenge, this study presents PredictModelGUI, a graphical interface developed in Python that implements nine models to classify Essential Genes. The interface allows importing datasets, re-training models, and adjusting parameters. The information is stored in the software database, which ensures traceability and provides a simple and intuitive tool to test different configurations. Available

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2021-12-14) ALMEIDA, Anderson Francisco de Sousa; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208; HTTPS://ORCID.ORG/0000-0001-7327-9960; GONZÁLEZ, Marcos Tulio Amaris; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9970287865377659
The quality of water is directy related to is level of pollution caused by anthropic and industrial actions, with a consequent reduction in the availability of quality water. Therefore, limological monitorig of the basic parameters os water quality is carried out, as away of obtaining data that guide the decision-making of water resouces management bodies. In this context, the present study has the implementation of machine learning algorithms to predict temporal and spatiotemporal water quality parameter data. The ML techniques used were linear regression, ramdom forest, MLP and LSTM neural networks. Two collection points from a Water Resources Management Unit in São Paulo, Brazil were used. Models are evaluated using MAPE( mean absolute percentage eror) and RMSE( root mean squared erro) metrics. Therefore, in temporal prediction, the LSTM technique presented the best performace in relation to the other techniques and the data used, as it has the lowest average RMSE result, with 2.47. However, in spatiotemporal prediction, MLP has the best performace both in relation to the other techniques and the data used , as it has the lowest averagee results of MAPE and RMSE, respectively, 5.94% and 1.34. Thus, these performaces of neural networks can be justified by the non-linearity of the parameter data. Other than that, the results of the experiments aim to contribute to the water quality monitorng process and assist in the planning of water management, so that it meets current legislation and enales the indication of public policies, through machine learning models in prediction of water quality parametes.

The application of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Brazilian legal context is a rapidly growing area that can alter the way legal professionals work, given the volume of generated text. Among the possible applications of NLP and AI is the automatic classification of documents, which, among other things, can be employed in the automation of the digitization process of Judicial Proceedings that are still in physical form. Therefore, this work applies and compares AI algorithms for the classification of legal documents. The algorithms are divided into two different approaches. The first approach (I) separates the computational representation process of the text from the classifier training itself and applies SVM and Logistic Regression in conjunction with computational representations based on TF-IDF, Word2Vec, FastText, and BERT. The second approach (II) simultaneously performs the computational representation of documents and the training of the classifier, applying Deep Learning algorithms based on recurrent neural networks, specifically ULMFiT (Universal Language Model Fine-tuning), and HAN (Hierarchical Attention Networks). The studied dataset is named VICTOR, composed of documents from the Supreme Federal Court (STF) of Brazil. The research concludes that both approaches can be applied to the classification of legal documents from the employed dataset. Additionally, despite being less computationally expensive, the classification pipelines of Approach I, which use the computational representation of the document with TF-IDF, yield results equivalent to pipelines employing Deep Learning. Furthermore, embedding documents specialization with data from the dataset under study, improves the performance of pipelines that employ Word2Vec, FastText and ULMFiT, compared to pipelines that apply the generic representations of these, i.e., models pre-trained with data from the general context.

Studies using different machine learning methods for knowledge discovery and pattern recognition in precipitation time series are increasingly frequent in the literature. Identify and analyze patterns in precipitation time series in a particular region is fundamental for its socioeconomic development. Therefore, it can be stated that knowledge and understanding of the rainfall characteristics of the regions are important to enable the planning of the use, management and conservation of water resources. The natural phenomenon of precipitation is a fundamental process with a direct impact on watersheds and on human and environmental development. The variability of this phenomenon has important implications for the navigability of rivers, individual abundance and species richness. In recent years, many studies with this approach have been carried out in Brazil, mainly in the Amazon region. This research aimed to develop a computational method for analyzing time series of precipitation using machine learning techniques with unsupervised learning, in order to propose an method capable of extracting complex features from the data, obtaining a map of attributes at low dimensionality for pattern recognition, discovery of homogeneous regions with respect to precipitation and approximate reconstruction of precipitation time series in the Legal Amazon. The proposed deep learning neural network model is trained to learn the main and most complex features of the original data and present them in low dimensionality in latent space. After the training, the results are promising, the observations of the reconstructed data showed a good performance as evaluated by the RMSE and NRMSE metric with resulting values equal to 0.06610 and 0.3355 respectively. The analysis of the representation of the data in low dimension was applied and analyzed by a clustering structure using hierarchical agglomerative with Ward’s method. This methodology also showed good results, as it carried out consistent groupings characterizing ho- mogeneous regions in relation to precipitation data. Thus, demonstrating that the representation in low dimensionality carried the main characteristics of the time series of the analyzed data. It is noteworthy that the method developed in this study can be applied not only in the Amazon region, but also in other areas with similar challenges related to time series analysis.

Brazil is being demanded and challenged to improve its control and efficiency over environmental and social projects. In 2023, the UN confirmed that COP-30, scheduled for 2025, will be hosted in Belém-PA, attracting the attention of several heads of state to the Amazon, a region entangled in geopolitical and ideological discourses. To meet global expectations, local authorities will need to show that biodiversity is a wealth of life and ways of life. To achieve this, it will be necessary to identify and mitigate the challenges highlighted in the goals of the 2030 Agenda, above all, harmonizing the interests present in meeting the goals with local reality and expectations, as currently even Public Policies (PP) implemented at national level still cannot have the effective adhesion of local agents, thus hindering its effectiveness. In this sense, we understand that indicators are important instruments for planning and evaluating PP, in the context of Sustainable Development, these indicators are more complex because they deal with issues that go beyond the notion of locality and temporality, as social and environmental events cannot be measured. and treated as economic or organizational metrics. Therefore, a good sustainability indicator needs to be easy to implement, understand and incorporate into PP projects. In this context, the Sustainability Barometer (BS) is a very useful and versatile holistic indicator of sustainability, also being an indicator already applied in several studies conducted in the State of Pará and predominating in studies applied to settlements, companies, municipalities, etc. Furthermore, the BS has a pedagogical advantage, as it easily communicates the situation, being easy to interpret and analyze. For these reasons, the BS was implemented in software to serve as a tool in the process of generating sustainability levels by municipality and region. Finally, in this work an investigation was conducted that allowed the BS method to be applied in an automated way to the 144 municipalities in Pará. In the application, several variables from the environmental, economic and social dimensions were used, allowing us to determine that the State and its regions present an Intermediate level of sustainability, with the economic dimension being the most vulnerable. We also identified that the municipalities of Belém and Parauapebas presented the best performances, while Viseu and Cachoeira do Piriá presented the worst. The panorama demonstrates that the State needs to invest in PP instruments to improve urban planning, as population growth and the emergence of new unplanned housing areas lead to various human and environmental losses. On the other hand, urban growth ordered and guided by public authorities minimizes the number of sub-housings and eradicates social problems by improving access for the most vulnerable populations to goods and services, guaranteeing human and ecosystem well-being.

The technology is inserted in the most diverse environments of society, however, at times its use can be improved, as in the case of web search engines. Search tools on the web, when used by elementary school children, can lead to a complex environment that hinders learning. Such an occurrence is due to the little familiarity of children in formulating questions related to what they need to learn and the difficulty in interpreting the results. Due to this difficulty, this work proposes a search engine that improves the search string considering what governs the Base Nacional Comum Curricular. To implement this mechanism, text mining is used, to improve the environment for children's learning. As a form of evaluation, elementary school students were used together with the collaboration of teachers with the same profile. Thus, it is possible to evaluate the use of the tool and conclude the occurrence of improvement in educational search results when using a tool that applies text mining techniques in a search engine.

In order to keep the institutions' information systems in functional compliance with their organizational processes, there is a need to modernize them frequently. However, difficulties such as the lack of diverse resources (technical, financial, human and others), make this task difficult to perform. In view of the adversities that institutions find in modernizing their legacy systems, this work proposes an approach, defined as Kirn, for the technological evolution of these systems, which has as premise the reengineering of software in an agile way, with efficient use of the available resources aiming the optimization of this practice. To assist in this activity, a tool called Kirn Framework was developed, which helps in mapping the requirements of legacy systems and in creating a base application, which will be the starting point of technological evolution. As a proposal for the evaluation of this approach, an experiment was developed at the Superintendência do Desenvolvimento da Amazônia (SUDAM), using experimental software engineering concepts, in which the prototypes developed with the institutional approach and the Kirn approach were compared through the use of pre-established indicators in the experiment’s planning.
