Análise de citações em textos acadêmicos escritos

This article reports on a study of citations in academic writing from the perspective of citation analysis and genre analysis (Moravcsik & Murugesan, 1975; Swales, 1986, 1990, 2004; Bhatia, 2004). The study focuses on the use of citations by expert and novice members of the Linguistics community and presents a comparative analysis of nine research articles and thirteen student term papers in that area. The results show that the linguistic choices that guide the writing of citations are largely shared by the expert members (authors of the research articles) and the novice ones (graduate students authoring the papers) in that both tend to choose confirmative over negative citations. Unlike novices, however, expert members tend to use their own voices to confront other authors. The implications of this study reinforce the need for Language Teaching Education Programs to offer a genre-based approach to discourse aimed at developing students' rhetorical consciousness about academic writing, and consequently about the use of citations in written texts, thereby enabling novices to build up an authorial positioning within their discourse community.

After the 1988 Constitution, formal education in Brazil suffered many changes. Nowadays, schools tend to adapt their actions to the current educational paradigm, and indigenous communities take a stand in this matter. One said community is the Parkatêjê, inhabitants of the Mãe Maria Reservation Area, in Pará. This paper, based on published materials, gathers information about the initiative of this community to preserve its culture. It also brings data about the implementation of formal education among indigenous people and about autonomy, a phenomenon related to current pedagogical practices. This text highlights the fact that Indigenous Education has not yet matured with regards to the preservation of native languages and suggests that ethnographical studies should be carried out in indigenous schools. The text also aims at helping to spread the word about the Parkatêjê experience in valuing its own culture.

Banalidade e intersubjetividade na arte

This article aims to reflect on the banality of art in its quotidianity. It attempts to question by what social dynamics the common, the banal and the quotidian can come to have artistic value. The answer we seek to build for the question, observes this sensation in its dynamics of sociation, that is, as a bond, as a structure of the collective and experiential character of social life. By understanding the phenomenon as a total social fact, we can say that it is engendered and simultaneously engenders the societal bond in an intersubjective procedure that produces the shared sense.

O canto das Sereias e a embriaguez do tradutor

It's well known that to German Romantic culture translation is related to the process of formation, being associated with the very concept of Bildung, as already pointed out by Antoine Berman. Bildung necessarily refers to the dimension of experience, a process of enlargement and unfolding, which is a perfect metaphor to the notion of travel, so important to the Romantics. Such movement of crossing-over, which is the unsettling "task of the translator", can be understood as a process of navigation through that nebulous region where one hears the Sirens' call, and as Maurice Blanchot once wrote, one runs the risk of disappearing.

As Casas Bahia não entrarão no Amapá. Consumo, política e intersubjetividade

An unusual subject appeared in the 2010 election campaign in the brazilian state of Amapá: the rumor that, if the candidate Lucas Barreto (PTB) was elected governor, his deputy governor, Jaime Nunes, entrepreneur owner of the largest group of local retail stores Domestilar, will mobilize political conditions to prevent the arriving of new retail groups in the state, particularly the "Casas Bahia", a powerful Brazilian network of retail stores. Bombarded by advertising this group, which is aired on national television, the population converted this subject into a political issue. The article seeks to understand how consumer desire, with its political dimension, is an intersubjective phenomenon in a mediatized society.

As classes verbais da língua Paresi (Aruák)

The goal of this paper is to describe the verb classes of Paresi, an Arawak language, spoken by approximately 3,000 people in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. In Paresi, verbs can be classified into intransitive, transitive and ditransitive. In general, intransitive verbs in Arawak languages are subclassified into: active intransitives, and stative intransitives. The division in the group of intransitives is syntactically marked, as subjects of stative intransitive and object of transitive are marked by the same form, while subjects of transitives take a different marking. The majority of Arawak languages exhibits semantic alignment, that is, the selection of agreement marking depends on the eventivity parameter. In Paresi, the division in the intransitives is morphologically marked as the following: a) some intransitive verbs take the same subject marking as transitive verbs (set A proclitics); b) other intransitive verbs take a different subject marking (set B proclitics). Semantically, verbs are classified into agentive and non-agentive. The semantic features of [agentivity] and [control] have an essential role in the assignment of verbos to subclasses. The data were collected during field research and the analysis is based on a functional-typological approach.

Como adolescentes apreendem a ciência e a profissão de cientista?

The media representations play an important role on the perception of girls toward the scientific universe. In this paper, we seek to understand perceptions of female teenagers about science and scientists, using as stimulus TV stories from Jornal Nacional and Fantástico, of Rede Globo. We held four focus groups with students of the 2nd year of high school of public and private schools. Among the visions of the scientific activity we highlight: the association of science to the contents of school disciplines offered in elementary and secondary school; the association of science with experimentation and discovery; the vision of science as accumulation of knowledge as linear growth. We have not identified clear differences in perceptions of teenagers from different social classes. By using a qualitative approach - little explored in studies on public perceptions of S&T - this study may contribute to a deeper understanding of the perception of teenagers toward the scientific activity.

Comunicação banal e quotidiano em um mercado de Belém

This article describes an ethnographic research carried out at the Guamá fair, in Belém (PA), during the years 2011 to 2018. The objective was to understand the communicational and cultural processes present in the social interactions of this fair, thus trying to describe the typifications that make up the intersubjectivity of the social subjects who attend it. In this way, these typifications are described and discussed as the social form of a banal everyday life and an attempt is made to think about these typifications through the Heideggerian notion of chatter (Gerede), understood as a communicational-cultural process affected by the banality of everyday life.

Conhecimento técnico e atitude no ensino de língua portuguesa

Contrary to the idea that the technical knowledge of the teacher of a native tongue serves primordially to the content of its teaching or to the planning of classes, this article discusses the precept that such knowledge should be seen as the basis for the creation of an attitude to be maintained in face-to-face interactions in the classroom. This attitude relates to the constant need to make decisions before the unexpected, and points to the construction of a specific discursive place for the language teacher - that of someone who listens to the student's words and enlaces them to his or her own words, so as to make sure that the assumption of the position of subject follows a reflection about the linguistic means available to such end. As an example to fuel this debate, the text describes the case of the unusual interpretation made by some students of the word "rataria" present in one of Monteiro Lobato's works. Some of the possible attitudes before this reading mistake are discussed, as well as their implications: to request a change in the answer, to modify the didactic material, to make explicit the linguistic work underlying the mistake, or to use the mistake as a pretext to other activities. The procedures discussed are based on the premise that mistakes and other unforeseen manifestations not only reveal procedures of construction of knowledge, but also offer important opportunities for the teacher to include him/herself into the student's word, being, therefore, a fundamental aspect in the construction of a relationship in which teaching becomes possible.

A constituição do dado em escritos sobre a prática de ensino de língua: análise discursiva de relatórios e artigos

We present partial results of a research project in which we discuss the function of writing in teachers' education. The general premise is that writing about a class may be an activity through which the teacher produces, to himself and to others, data that will allow him to keep working on the ideas and positions assumed by him when in class. In this paper we focus on two aspects of this research: the "polyphonic" analysis centered on unfurling the "voices" that make up a written discourse about the class, based on the ideas of O. Ducrot; and the questioning of what the configuration of the enunciate may show about the "empirical subject" responsible for it, diverging from Ducrot in favor of M. Bakhtin's ideas. Our data comprise two universes: texts written by Language Arts students during their in-school training and papers on the teaching of Portuguese published in academic journals. We point out three problems that are common to both kinds of data: a) the use of "weasel words" in the place of concrete information; b) the insertion of cited discourses as enunciates to which one answers instead of as data that one analyses; c) conclusions about the class that do not result from the data analysis that is shown. We synthesize our results by stating that, when it comes to discussing what goes on in the classroom, even though one might listen to the "voices" that come from there, such voices hardly receive any treatment as data and are responded to in different ways; the resulting discourse is thus inconsistent as far as an analysis of the class.

Construções intersubjetivas na prática profissional bibliotecária: reflexões

The article addresses intersubjective practice in Librarianship and progressive action, in order to find clues about the receptivity that involves this science as a humanistic area, establishes critical and emancipatory thoughts aiming at the bonds of cooperativity. For this, it contemplating theory and practice and re-signifies technical action by the Progressive (social) action of the librarian. This is a theoretical research, with a critical and interpretative approach, based on the thinking of Jürgen Habermas on communicative action and based on the hermeneutical characterization, which tries to develop in the discursive action, in the intersubjective dialogue of Librarianship and in the social role of the librarian. The study show that it is necessary to lead librarians closer to the social, with mediation discursive practices, and to build contributions to think beyond the instrumental aporias and to go beyond the paradigms that are instituted. Through communicative reasons, the reform of the constructs (instrumental) of the ideology of the technique comes to tow, in the perspective of making users more autonomous. Therefore, although it is an interpretative base study, one can assert the progressive and critical librarianship is a starting point for other studies, an open path to information science and its epistemological base studies.

O consumo da corda do Círio de Nazaré na pandemia da Covid-19: experiências simbólicas nos sentidos (i)materiais

This article analyzes the consumption of the Círio de Nazaré’s rope, a religious and cultural manifestation in the city of Belém, Pará, based on the experiences and interactions with this object during the Covid-19 pandemic (2020-2021). Thus, the objective is to understand the rope’s symbolic consumption in the context of suspended processions in which it is traditionally present. Through the notions of consumption ritual as a cultural practice and the material culture that builds experiences, it was noticed that the suspension of processions evidenced the constitutive character of the object-symbol Círio’s rope in the in the experience of the subjects, so that its absence in the streets influenced the own perception and experience of consumption of the festivity as a social experience that is usually shared annually in the city of Belém.

The article reflects on the practices and social forms of consumption present in the sound system parties of the city of Belém in a complex and multidi mensional perspective. The article focuses on two blocks of social practices –drinking and clothing– and seeks to problematize the accumulated debate on the problem of consumption from a Simmelian perspective, centered on the complexity of social forms. We concluded that the social forms of the act of consumption are not binary nor permanent structures, but dynamic patterns, that allow for creativity and adjustments wich may occur between social classes and groups, practices of inclusion and exclusion, cohesion and competition, aesthetic pattern and innovative rupture, hedonism and vicarity, group cohesion and life cohesion social.

Dança, identidade, universalidade: as danças circulares no grupo Mana-Maní, em Belém, Brasil

The article takes an ethnographic approach over circular dances developed by Mana Mani, a cultural group from Belém (Brazil). We want to discuss how the circular dances, a booming cultural practice in contemporary societies, contribute to the formation of identity. We discuss, particularly, the production of the empathic social bond as a factor for the constitution of political and ethical references in the identitarian typification process. Accordingly, we look into how the proposed merger between universal and local is inserted among the contemporary cultural practices on hybrid cosmopolitan senses. We also seek to discuss how traditional dances and musicality of traditional Amazonian populations are appropriated by the group and become communal ideals and values and how they produce political and ethical directions and meanings to the to the local, in his dialogue with the universal.

The article discusses the relationship between social representations and artistic representations, observing the receipt of two video clips, both thematising the periphery, by high school students from two schools in the outskirts of Belém (Brasil). We want to understand how a artistic representation contributes to conform a social representation on the social dialogic process and about the liminality between artistic representations and media representations. The objective is to understand the dynamic role of the central nucleus of the representations, structured, as demonstrated by observation, through the dialogical process inherent to the social experience.

O desafio da tradução entre língua portuguesa e libras diante do fenômeno da sinonímia

The research is focused on the synonymy phenomenon in translation between the Portuguese language and Brazilian sign language - LI-BRAS, focused on the work of Libras professional interpreter. The objective is to analyze the synonymy in the Portuguese language and LIBRAS as well as verify the semantic value of the sentences translated by LIBRAS interpreters. The theoretical basis is formed by Lyons (1981); Fernandes & Correia (2011); Chomsky (2006) and Saussure (2006), and studies of the Quadros (2004) and Rosa (2008). We use quantitative and qualitative approach. We obtain the translation for analyzes from sentences written in Portuguese and submitted to translations by LIBRAS interpreters of the Abaetetuba city. Concluded that the synonymy, as a constitutive process of translation, is essential to ensure the meaning in the target language. So any semantic loss as verified in the analyzes in translation with the literal meaning and information increase the interpreter translating for LIBRAS synonymic caused damage to the process. Consequently, the LIBRAS interpreter’s work is very important for the deaf and the translation must be carried out with ethics and responsibility. To be a resource to help the understanding of the deaf in a language that he does not hear.
